Fall Of Lantern Hook Normal (42+) : A Tank's Perspective

By: Aife

A general overview of the various bosses within FLH and the tanking methods I used to down them.

Boss 1: Difficulty 1/5

Rorf

Rorf is quite easy to down on normal mode. He has a pet called Scratchy. Down scratchy first as he casts a DoT which does quite a bit of damage. I usually pull Scratchy away from Rorf when Rorf is on the other side of the pillar. Rorf usually just sits there attempting to cast through the pillar and only moves once Scratchy is downed.

Rorf will cast two abilities, one is a ranged spell which is negligible and the other will make him jump backwards and root you for a few seconds. Easy way to combat this is just tank him with his back to the pillar and the rest is an easy tank and spank from there.

Boss 2: Difficulty 2/5

Pyromaster Cortinald

Before starting this fight just be warned that it is triggered by killing the last pack of mobs in the area and your healers may not get a chance to drink. So take the opportunity straight after the pack is downed.

After the last pack is killed mobs will start spawning in the tanking area. Kill them because they do stick around through the fight and they can be annoying. If you have mobs pull them to you tank. Also AOEs will start being put down stick out of them. The AOE 'domes' also aren't as big as the real radius so don't stand on the edge thinking you will be okay.

After a short time Cortinald will appear in the room, taunt him quickly as I believe he just attaches to your healer typically. Now the problem with this guy is that he teleports around the room. Charge is useful in this encounter. He will also randomly cast Fireball onto the tank and Cinderburst on a random target. Cinderburst does some decent damage so an interrupt usually goes down well with your healer.

Basically just stay out of the fires, get to the target as quickly as possible, don't LoS your healer, interrupt as much as you can.

Boss 3: Difficulty 3/5

Emberlord Ereetu

This boss can be a pain if you have a lower DPS group as he basically has a soft enrage.

This guy is a nasty piece of work but once you get the strat down hes easy.

Pull the sod and run through him so that he is towards the edge of the cliff with his back to your group. Reason? Cleave... yeah a nasty one too.

He will also randomly fear people, cast fireballs at them, and cast a homing fireball that will summon an AOE crystal once it has reached a player.

This is the soft enrage, if you start running out of room the fight can be very hard to control. If he summons a crystal on-top of you while your tanking, move out of it quickly but warn your group of the cleave if they are nearby. Also be aware that like Cortinald the AOE circles are bigger than they appear.

This guy has spike so don't run or jump through the AOE's for your healers sake.

Please note that this boss summary is for Normal mode only and will probably have mistakes and or misinformation.
