Elder Scrolls Lore: Argonian Names
By: Orsan
Greetings All!
If you choose to play an Argonian character in The Elder Scrolls Online, and wish to stay within the lore, you may benefit from the contents of this article.
Argonians can have three types of names.
The first type is the given name, which consists of a first name and possibly a family name, depending on whether they hold ties to an Argonian family or not. For Example, "Asuman Calidesh" or "Skalava Galthees".
The second type is an Argonian hyphenated name, sometimes called a "Black Marsh" name, such as "Jid-Mei" or "Brand-Na". These names are from the Hist language and typically describe the argonian's chosen profession or behavior.
Lastly, some argonians also have a "Cyrodilic" or "Tamrielic" name, which are in the common tongue. These names are descriptive in nature, much like the Black Marsh name. Some examples are "Scouts-Many-Marshes" and "Sees-All-Colors". These names can either be a direct translation of the argonian's Black Marsh name, but more often they are adopted when other races have trouble pronouncing the given name.
