Raiding 101

By: Lavum

Raiding... the final frontier... Wait.. wrong game.

First off, I hope this guide helps both the old pro's and fresh Raiders alike. It has been a passion of mine for many years. Starting in WoW then spanning across Aion, Tera, Neverwinter and now in Elder Scrolls Online. It is the ultimate group effort that combines Skill, Timing, and a focal goal of all members involved. But like anything, you have to start with the basics.

Combat

In ESO combat is rather different. Not only do you build abilities off of each other but, you also have to work on mastering your weapons. Being able to blend abilities with normal attacks is refereed to as Weaving. Here are some short video's that explain it and help you know what to look for.

Class/ Build

The great thing about ESO is that there isn't any true "Cookie Cutter" builds. For those who are not familiar with the term, Cookie cutter builds consist of every character that is of X class having the same gear, skills, attribute allotment etc. However, there are popular and tested builds for the various classes. They are always great places to start and later modify to what YOU as a player like. The following are some links to Builds for new raiders to get started. Each Build will also be a link to the respective forums post detailing everything about it. Another point I would like to make is there are many builds that with slight modification can be used with more then one class.

DragonKnight

The Dragonknight is Classified as the "Tank". Those who stand on the front line and take the hits and keep the party safe from the the things that can turn most into a smear on the ground. However like all classes in ESO they are very versatile and can do a wide range of different roles outside of their niche. DPS builds, both Stam and Magika based and rumor has it, even make decent off-healers. One of the best classes in ESO (Disclaimer- I am bias towards DK's seeing I play one )

Tank Builds- Self-sustaining tank, The Wall, The Bastion
DPS (Stam)- The Fiery Knight
DPS (Magika)- The Fire Mage/ Shooting Star
Healing- The Rock, Igneous Springs, DK Healer (Battlemasters Corner)

Templar

The Templar is classified as the "Healer". The one who is in the middle of all of the action dishing out healing and keeping the party going. In some instances you can get away with not having a Tank, but never a healer. They also excel at tanking, their ability to mitigate and self heal makes them very versatile.

Healer- The Priest, The Priest (Older build), RaHimself's Build, The Dreadnought, Healer 102 (Alcast)
Tank- DinoDefense, Radiant Bastion, Untouchable Light (1.6+ Build)
DPS- The Crusader, Radiant Harvester

Sorcerer

Sorcerer, the ranged magicial powerhouse of ESO. This class has options available to it from traditional Cloth wearing caster to Plated tank, However I would classify Sorc as Ranged/ Magical DPS at it's core. I have to say that after rolling a alt Sorc I am also finding it a blast to play

DPS(Magika)- Captain Crush, Turbulence, Crushing Shock (Crimson's Variation), Lighting Tornado
DPS(Stam)- The Reaver
Healer- The Preserver
Leveling- Velvet Hammer

Nightblade

The Nightblade, master of the night and melee DPS. One of the most deadly classes in ESO. The Nightblade is considered one of the highest DPS classes in ESO.

DPS- NB Duel Weild/Bow (Stam), One-Shot Willy, Duel Wield 1.6, Siphon Mage 1.6, Bow Time- Bow/ 2H
Tank- The Bastion of Night, The Soul Devourer
Healer- Blood Mage

***Please Note!! Builds change all the time, some of these will be outdated but are good places to look for building your character. I will Update/Add/Remove Builds as I find them. If you find a Build that works feel free to post it and I will add it to the list***

**Preparing for the Raid/Trial**

So you are all rip roarin' and ready to go for your first raid. You got weaving down... mostly, got your gear ready and are looking forward to getting into a Trial. But Wait.. There are a few last things you will be needing.

Potions- There is a wide range of potions you can use based on your character/Build. Have a healthy supply.
Food- There are 2 choices. If you only use 2 Stats it is a better bet to go with the Blue Food, if you use all 3 Stats Purple Food is the way to go.
Soul Gems- A often overlooked must have. being able to res a fallen comrade in battle is a crucial part of doing trials.

In Conclusion...
Be prepared, and have fun
I hope this guide helps and I look forward to seeing you in Trials
