Racial Motifs

Dear Fellow Crafters,

I have a big problem with creating crafting alts in ESO and that problem is my very bad luck with finding racial motifs so my crafters can craft gear for any race?  My main toon is my primary gatherer and I gather everything in sight where ever I am.  So far though I've been extremely unlucky and haven't found a single motif to consume or trade.  I can't afford to buy one on the market at the current prices because I've been investing my gold in other areas like bank space (don't get me started on always running out of bag space).

My main character is Breton and unless I level up crafting on him for multiple crafting disciplines I basically can't use any of the gear that my other crafters are attempting to level.  Any suggestions from all of you dedicated crafters out there?  Should I just take the hit on my main character in skill points and allocate them to multiple lines of crafting so I can gear him up as he levels?  He is a dps/healing templar and I'm leaning to light armor for the passive magicka regen bonus so I want to be able to craft gear and staffs for him at level.  I also want to level him in provisioning and alchemy for the wonderful passive bonuses in those for duration buffs.

Let me know what your suggestions may be or is it much ado about nothing.  I was planning on just leveling him in provisioning and alchemy until it dawned on me that I couldn't craft gear for him on my alts without the motifs.

Just in case anyone misunderstands.  The racial motifs are not required.  Any race can equip any racial style and every race can make their own racial style by default. The racial style choice is just cosmetic, a personal preference.  It doesn't change the item's stats.  That said, they will come.  Just regularly check the containers in buildings.  Make sure to check containers when doing the main story line (Harborage) and guild quest lines also.

Myself, I put the three crafts that use the motifs (blacksmith, clothier, woodworker) on the same character so I wouldn't need as many.  So far in my few hours a day of play (on average) that char has all but the veteran races.  I didn't buy any or receive any as gifts.  I did swap for a couple and give a couple duplicates away so far tho.

I suspect that by the end of the first month of play everyone will have more motif books than they know what to do with. Patience. ;)

Wow! You are lucky!  I've only found 2 motifs and I am a true loot monkey!  A friend gave me 2 others so I do have a variety of styles; but I feel the 9 Divines are not pleased with me!  LOL

I, too, am crafting both Blacksmithing and Clothier on one toon so I only need to find the motifs for one crafter.  I have a 3rd craft for woodworking on a second toon.  And with the storage space, that about all I can manage.  In fact, at just a humble level 7 in these crafts, my bags on the crafters and "mule" alts are bulging.

And as regards storage space . . . I think we need to make some "noise" with Zenimax.  The storage space is not sufficient.  I spend a significant amount of time trying to manage my inventory.  This primarily means logging on and off between the various alts I created to be mules.  I might spend as much time as 30% of my online time to clean out bags; transfer items; edit lists of "who has what".

I'm told that other games at launch had limited storage and later increased it when their customers made noise. Let's make some noise!! I got that they want people to be immersed and not hurry things - I agree with that; but time is further slowed when I spend 1/4 to 1/3 of my time dumping bags and logging on alts.  The have a lot of unique items too - a gem for the many racials and armor/weapon traits; upgrade items; as well as items you will want to research.  I'm still in Stonefalls; but now I see I will not be able to retain some of my lower level mats so I have room for the "next level".

It's a "clever" crafting system but I'm not enjoying it like I should because of the storage issue.  I wish they would do something like GW2 and have a separate crafting bank.  (that was an awesome system!!!).

I'm going to put in a suggestion ticket.  I think their customers need to give them feedback!

We gave them TONS of feedback on testing and they upped inventory by 10 and bank by 30 slots for the start.  Think about how it feels with that much less to start.  ;)

And working with others and my fortune at times, I can craft in 7 different styles now.  I even had an extra book for one that I gave to someone who needed that one on a first ask, first get basis.  =)

Like Naay, I have my blacksmithing, clothier and woodworking on one toon so only need one book for each and I'm set.

I was not aware that you could equip any style.  Thanks for the information.  Knowledge is power :)  That is an excellent idea to have one character with all 3 crafts that use motifs.  Thanks for all of your replies.

Has anyone come across site where you can see all motifs crafted? Dulfy has done great job with GW2, but there is no galleries for ESO yet and ESO fashion site is quite incomplete. I have been fortunate to get all common motifs (all playable races minus imperial) so now I have set my eyes on rarer ones. Because they cost quite much if you aren't lucky to find them by yourself, I would very much like to see how they look before getting motif.

@Villaovi I haven't been able to find anything better than ESO Fashion yet - and obviously that will rely on people sending in the required pics to get it completed sooner.

It's not bad, although still under construction (and only has female models at this point). It's a start though.

Thanks. That crafting simulator gives some idea what they could look like. Hmm perhaps this would be nice project to make. To test out what armours look like per Tier. *puts thinking hat on*
