PSA: Repair items before listing in the Guild Store or depositing in the Guild Bank

There seems to be a bug (at least, I assume it's a bug) that allows you to sell damaged equipment in the Guild Store.

I found this out the hard way when I purchased a piece of equipment from the Guild Store and then had to pay an extra 50% of the purchase price in repair costs immediately after purchase. No doubt the person listing the item also had no idea that the item was damaged, since most games don't allow damaged equipment to be listed until it's been repaired first.

I also see damaged items in the guild vaults.   On one hand it's nice that some items don't become soul bound on use so that you can share them - on the other hand damaged items shouldn't be allowed to be sold in an AH or placed into a communal bank.

Not to mention it is just bad form.  IMHO...

@Morigana

I didn't realize it occured with bank deposits as well, that's good to know! (Although on the whole I'd be less disappointed by a damaged bank item than a damaged store item, due to upfront cost of store items).

I doubt it's being done intentionally with the game being this new. I had no idea you could list or deposit damaged items, because all my previous games have had a built in check that would generate an error when you tried to do that. It's definitely something I'll be careful of in future though.

(Edit: Thread title edited to include bank deposits.)

Well people are also probably placing damaged items into the bank for people to simply break down and/or research. Better than wasting it on a vendor sale.

That doesn't seem like a good reason IMHO.

I'm a crafter myself, and I never use the guild banks for deconstruction/research, as to me that seems anti-social. With the game only just launched, everyone is levelling, and equipment is potentially very useful to a wide range of players for non-crafting reasons.

If you don't want to repair it, deconstruct/research or vendor it yourself (and if you like, donate the proceeds to the guild bank). Don't dump it in the bank and risk saddling some poor guildie with a repair bill they weren't expecting.

Don't think you can donate the proceeds to the guild bank, I see no option for putting gold in guild banks, did I miss a button somewhere?

Oh you're right, I just checked. The option to deposit gold seems to be limited to your account bank. And since the goldseller detection system seems to be a bit trigger happy at the moment, sending gold via mail is probably a bad idea too.

IMHO, the Guild Bank should only be used to store actual ingredients of crafting professions.  Lately I have been seeing everything from daedra shells (vendor trash) to worn out pieces of armor of common (white) quality placed in there, not to mention countless racial stones used for crafting that people can't even take the time to stack together.  Think about your fellow family members before cluttering up the bank and the store with garbage.

Instead of dumping your unrepaired green items in the bank, be a little bit more social and link them in guild chat for anyone that wants them.  It's great to see family handing out gifts in guild chat and it promotes a friendlier, more personal atmosphere.

If someone left a really nice item i could use in guild bank the thought of complaining that it is not fully repaired would not even remotely cross my mind. You should be thankful someone gave you a upgrade for free not think to yourself they should have spent their own money to repair it before giving you a free item. Seriously your getting a free item you should not be complaining

The guild bank isn't a rubbish bin, and the guild store isn't Value Village. Damaged items don't belong in either of them.

That's not saying that we're not grateful to anyone who donates to the bank. But sticking broken equipment in the bank (if not accidental) can look like a lack of respect for your fellow guildies, firstly because that item then takes up a bank slot (and storage space is an eternal headache that the elders have to manage), when that slot could have been used for a repaired piece of equipment. Secondly, the player that withdraws the item might not  realize it's broken, or be able to afford to repair it (which might be why they're using the bank in the first place, rather than the store, other crafters or NPC merchants).

As Elth suggested, guildchat is probably a better way to find a good home for unrepaired items if you don't want to repair them yourself, since at least it gives you a chance to link them/mention their condition.

I know I put a couple items up in the store that were damaged...like the original poster...I had no idea about the state of the equipment...I've never played a game where that could be done. Additionally, when I pay for repairs...which I typically do at a vendor 1st. Everything is repaired...even items in your bags if you want...Don't think ESO give the player that option. For me it was pure ignorance.  I know many of you study the ways of the game and have played on the PTS but many of us didn't. My apologies.

@MarkosMartong

I actually don't think I've ever played a game that allowed damaged items to be listed or banked, so I totally understand where you're coming from. I just assumed that it would be the same here as in those other games, and although I was in the beta, it's still taken me until now to notice it.

Just requires a little more thought - for now no harm no foul - just be careful.

I go through the bank and stack items about once a day and will continue to do so - again with this - I don't think people realize that it doesn't stack automatically - it is a request that has been submitted, but I know other games where auto stacking was also an issue.  At this moment it isn't too bad and I think I can keep up with the stacking.

But I do agree - please don't put vendor trash in there.  I do throw away worthless stuff such as bait and the early foods that add like 3-6 health, stamina, or magika - since it only takes once you leave the Tutorial to find much better stuff just laying on tables or as drops even if you don't craft food/drink and - they have 0 value.   I won't remove anything of value - even 1 gold until it gets bad enough - then the money will be sent to Fog for the guilds use - I would just as soon see you all vendor it and have the money - keep that in mind.

Safe journ all.

Hmm, I might be one of the stacking culprits. I'm afraid of stacking. Several years ago in a different game I somehow managed, in an attempt to add one precious item to a stack of 199 similar items, to simulate the Guild Bank Theft of the Century by accidentally withdrawing all 200 precious items. At that point my access was automatically locked down and I was unable to put any of them back in. And there, at the top of roster, in large boldface text, was the bank log entry: "Tyrra withdrew 200 [insert precious item that took all the players who donated them several years to acquire] from the Guild Bank."

It still haunts me. Maybe I'll practise stacking bait (of course I won't put that in the bank though).

Oh Tyrra how awful! That is harsh >.<

I also had something happen that I never forgot (and still quietly cringe about) from a game long ago, funny how these things scar us!

Anyway, don't worry nothing like that will happen in ESO :)  It is quite easy to stack things, just withdraw them to your inventory, drag one stack on to the other, then deposit. You can practice at your own bank just split a stack to practice on.

I will not here that a lot of us are placing crafted gear in the guild banks specifically for someone else to deconstruct for leveling crafting. This makes me suspect broken items in the guild bank are there for the same reason.

On PTS I had been spending 20 minutes or so stacking all the items in the guild bank on most days, I'll go ahead and start doing it again for my GSCH room when I'm sorting out my husbands bank.

If you've got a few minutes at the bank stack some stuff for everyone. :)
