Seeking helpful ideas on leveling

On my main character, I've fallen enough behind the level of the quests that I'm on that I'm having trouble with the bosses. I am 21 and my quests are 24 or 25. I can handle the normal mobs, but upon reaching the end of the last two quest lines I've found I can't quite beat the boss yet. I'll have to go back after I gain at least one more level.

My question is this - what is the best way to get that level? I have almost the entire level to go, and I've run around Deshaan and it looks like I've done everything up to this point (I'm going to go back again anyway). I don't like just grinding mobs for experience, since it just isn't fun for me.

Is Cyrodil a viable place for me to gain a level or two to catch up to PvE content? I'd like to learn more about PvP anyway (only done a couple of scouting quests so far), and if it will help me get my level back in alignment with where I am in PvE, that would be great. I should note that I can't often make the guild PvP events because of the times, so I'm wondering if going into Cyrodil solo is a decent way to get a level or two.

Make sure you have done all the quests for both Stonefalls and Deshan.   I was level 26 before I left Deshan.   I managed to do every quest but one in Stonefalls and all of them in Deshan.   You can check this by opening up your Journal and under Achievements got to Quests - then Ebonheart Pact - then to the area and it will tell you if you have done all the quests - I know there were 69 in Stonefalls.

Other than that be sure to hit the world bosses in each zone (the Skull and Crossbones on the map) and don't be afraid to ask for help in doing them - they are tough to solo even at a few levels higher than them.   Run through all the dungeons (marked by torches on the maps) the public ones (which Deshan has several) have skyshards in them as well as an achievement for killing the boss in the dungeon.   Now it is hard to get the boss at the moment because of the Bots that spam him when he pops - but all you need is one hit on him for the achievement to register.   If you have trouble getting a hit - do a count between his spawns - and then a couple of seconds before his next spawn lay down an AE or start spamming your light attack at his location and 8/10 times you will get a hit.

Open all the treasure chests you find - if you don't like lockpicking - just take a moment or two and experiment - practice - and you should get it down.  If you haven't accumulated lockpicks there are usually some in the guild bank or send me an in game mail (I.D. above) and I will send you some - I find them every where since I have a compulsion to open ever container in the world.   Opening chests does give you exp.

Go on a rampage and kill all the undead and skeletons you see that are within you level.  These are the only things I will go out of my way to semi grind.  Why?  It is just fun to kill zombies, ghouls, and skeletons - and it brings up your level in the Fighters guild which has some very usefull skills.

If you see a Daedric Anchor and players are doing it - jump in and help - just a few hits on some mobs gets you exp and the achievement for closing it - not to mention they are challenging unless there are tones of people there - and again brings up your level in the Fighter's Guild.

If someone is advertising that they are running the World Bosses in the zone - take them up on grouping with them and run them - if someone is looking to group for the Group Dungeons - take them up on it and run them.

The other thing I do is I kill everything that moves in front of me on my way from one quest to another.  I seldom fast travel as I would miss the harvesting nodes, the mobs that drop me leather, treasure chests, and the other villains of the world.

I don't attempt to level fast but in just doing the beginner isle... (and if you didn't do it - you might want to.  Yes, you are way over level but you can complete the quests quickly and get the exp for doing the quests not to mention the 3 skyshards on that island - which will also lead you to the next area and another 3 skyshards - and more quests that at your level you can just close your eyes and walk through.  Will it be boring - only if you think of it like that - the stories behind them are all very good.) ... and doing the above things I listed I am usually well above the zones level - never behind them.

Also don't pass up on the main story line quests from the Prophet/Harborage - good exp and skill points.

Now, I have said a lot of things and maybe you are doing most of them - but I still put them down since I have no clue how you play. If you are doing all of this - then I have nothing to offer.

Another good way to get a bump and some nice level specific gear is to listen in RAIDCALL for anyone running AvA dungeons. Very nice experience, a shard in each, and all items drop at your current level. There are a handful that run these mainly on weekends in the afternoons (EST) as a pickup and advertise in RAIDCALL not on the family calendar.

Thanks, Morigana! That's great information. I was doing some of that, but not all of it (I wasn't going out of my way to go after world bosses, for one thing). I implemented your suggestions and also work on my Silver Bolts skill on daedra and undead. Now I'm halfway through level 22 and was able to complete one of the quests I couldn't quite finish at level 21.

@Cam - that's a good idea. I usually look on the family calendar, and don't get on Raidcall unless I already know I'm doing an event. I'll have to change that.

Thanks again, both of you.

Make sure you have:

Completed the public dungeons.
Completed the dark anchors.
Completed the quests that you can.
Pick every chest prior to making level 50.
and if still low any appropriate level 4 man dungeons.

Here's why:
Many of the quests, public dungeons, and dark anchors have an achievement or achievements associated with them.  These achievements grant XP and if at VR they grant VP.
Chests picked grant XP, but do not grant VP... making them less of a required activity after level 50.  They still have nice loot, so picking them is by no means a waste.
The 4 man dungeons also have a questline and achievement in them, giving you a nice amount of XP at level.
Completing all the quests in a zone gives you an achievement (ok, you don't need to do them all, just most of them) as well as the XP reward for the quest.  Getting into the habit of maximizing quests will also help once you are VR, as each zone is ~ 1 VR for full completion.

If you still can't find enough to do, Cyrodill does grant XP for some things, like killing players and some achievements.  You can also get XP there by questing (there are PvE quest hubs with repeatable quests,) exploration, and public dungeons.

everything here is exactly what I do.   My templar healer is still finishing stone falls, I have 6 more quests to grind out before I leave, just for the achievement, and I am almost lvl 17 and still running around in stone falls.   I try to get all the bosses if possible, though I will admit I do less of these than I would like because well I can't solo them.   I don't do alot of dark anchors, but if I am next to them when they start, I will join in.   Only done one on my healer so far.   I do the public dungeons, loot every chest i come across, gather alot, and I have done the first 3 instanced dungeons.  These each have a quest and achievement plus doing the dungeon achievments in them is the only way you gain rank with undaunted.

The main thing is to do your achievements, it might mean your a completist, but it will help you in leveling if you complete the quests achievements at least.  Also make sure you have explored the entire map, every last inch, because you get exploration exp that way.   I also have to finish exploring parts of stonefalls, as i haven't unlocked two of the dolomens their, but it will get you more exp.

Great advice! I'm on the (very) slow path for leveling and likely will be in Stonefalls and Deshan long after I could have moved on... I'm savoring exploration. Very nice, indeed. :)

If it ain't fixed, break it until it is.

I find that if I completely finish a map (all quests which requires exploring off the beaten path to even discover sometimes, points of interests, dark anchors, and the occasional chest picked) that I'm usually out leveling that map before I leave it. I shouldn't even say completely finish. Just mostly finish because I know I miss some things when I look at the achievement lists.

I don't do any mob or boss grinding besides what's required to get through a quest. Although I also don't sneak by mobs. If there's something between me and my destination it will die. ;) I have done a little AvA but the xp I've gained there was minimal.

Everything grants XP, exploration, achievements, quests, even opening chests! Don't focus so much on gaining a level, that can be daunting. Getting an actual level will help because your skills will be raised, but also focus on skyshards. When you get extra points look at what passives you have in your armor and weapon skill tree or even your class skill tree. Often times putting a couple skill points in an extra %of damage, mana regen, health regen, spell resist will do the job. At least this was the case in my experience. I have completed every quest and gotten every shard in an area before I move on and I've never had a problem with the boss mobs, also, look and see if they can be completed in a group. to my knowledge only the main quest line has to be soloed, anything else can be grouped. If you are having trouble with one nasty, just put it out in chat. There are lots that love helping out, myself included! oooh, and the armor issue, make sure all of your armor is the highest you can wear and I always make sure everything has an enchant on it. make sure that weapon is enchanted too!

Once you hit level 10, you can do daily quests in towns in Cyrodil. Each town has 2 quest givers and the quests are sometimes super easy. Some take less than 5 minutes and involve nothing more than walking up and talking to someone on the other side of town. However, there are a few that are difficult to solo. If you can do them with a group, these quests are a breeze because if you get a hard quest, you can abandon it, and someone else in the group can ask for a quest (seems like they are random), get an easy one, and share it with you.
