so here you have my skills and such for my Templar, I know there was a lot of talk about Templars last night in ava....
ill come back to why and how I use my skills a bit later on...
ok here goes :)
so to start off lets define my play style.... contrary to how I started a range resto staff healer, I have now adopted a play style that well lets just say its in your face and in the thick of things.... I am usually the first one in front and my biggest objective is to survive a zerg ball long enough to make them fluster and have to stop moving because I'm in there backline amongst the healers and snipers...
as for gear well, I know a lot of Templars go with 5 light and 2 heavies for more magicka, I've tried that myself and found I did a lot better when I run with 5 heavies and 2 light... and well the reason for this I think its simple enough,
heavy armor passives
Bracing: with 5 pices of heavy its reduces the cost of blocking by 20%
constitution: extra health regen per piece
Rapid mending: increase healing received...
these 3 passives are the reason why I prefer my heavy, first of all im in thick, I use my shield to black at all times and when I do use a heal skill I heal even more.... so I may lose on some of the magika bonuses but getting more health when I do use my skill sort of balances that out...
now as for my skills. I have a simple enough rotation
I like to use my off hand skill before I engage:
harness magika this doesn't give that much back with only 2 light armor, but its extra dmg shield that well always helps
after that I switch back to my s/b :
Blazing shield is first, then I use my shielded Assault, so in all I have 3 skills that give me a dmg shield.
now after that it all depends on what kind of dmg im taking in, if im the one who is soaking up most of there attention all I really have time to do is pop my blazing shield over and over with a few breath of life in there......now I realise this seems like a one trick pony build but remember, the porpose of this is so I stay alive so my dps can do what they need to do.....
now if there are fewer attackers and I have more time to cast i'll hit Solar barrage and some Puncturing sweep in there to try and go for a kill,
on much smaller fight I will switch back to my resto staff and drop heals or even Channeled focus, nice skill to have to bump your armor and spell resit but the most important is the magika it gives you....
now you might wonder what I do with my resto staff and my other skill bar... well to be honest in big fight I don't use it much, but when its time to find sneak enemies or a ganker squad that's where it comes out..
Mage light well think that one is self explanatory, and well my binding javelin. binding javelin is I think by far one of the best knockdown skills you can have, its and instant cast and does crazy amounts of damage if you do it from crouched... so basicly I scout around throw in a javelin and switch to my s/b and charge in....
Ults, well I play around with that quite a bit... Solar disturbance I like when in keep or somewhere I know enemies are stuck in it..... Barrier is my best friend when we need to push a keep or group.. almost doubles your HP with a shield, and well when it expires on all my allies, it helps me gain some ult and magika (selfish I know )
So that it in a nutshell.... have fun with your Templar, they can do so many different play style you can never get bored :)
Here is a link to the video's by Ebonheart Templar, the guy we mentioned who has done several creative things with Templar builds:
He's got some good stuff there. I haven't watched as many of his newest videos, but I just selected "Templar Outnumered 8" and saw him using a bow in combination with a 2-h sword build that might be great with the recent buff to bows. He particularly is using that Magnum Shot (bow Scattershot morph) and Critical Rush (2-handed Crit Rush morph) that looks fun: Templar Outnumbered 8 . That build looks a little like a one-trick pony but it's just one of many builds that he has employed.
(Edit: the details of that bow/2-h build can be seen here: Ebonheart Templar's Stamina Cannon
I recommend his videos to anyone wanting consider different ways of bulding their Templar.
hey deac how about you share a bit of how you play, I know we utilise some of the same skill but have very different views on how to use them..
Ok, I'll try to get some details up tomorrow.
I've been using S&B on my templar, great for solo, need some advise on build strategies for AvA and groups. want to fill heals/off-tank roles. what say the Gurus?
was watching his vids, what you think his running, mostly med armor... he is running a pretty high stam build, was surprise, but I guess to be able to cast unstable so often you need a really good pool of stamina...
guess another question would be, what kind of pots you think hes drinking, seems enemies lose sight of him often, stealth health pots maybe, think I saw him use a few weapon crit ones also....
kind of amazed at what point he can heal himself with almost no heal skills......
got to give him props on how he utilises trees and rocks to get out of los
take a look at this, I ran this for a while where I ran resto heavy heals. my main porpose was that and almost all that..... I did also run with a s/b for when I found myself in smaller fights
