Dave Georgeson the face of Eq, EQII, EQ Next, Landmark was laid off from Daybreak/SOE. It will be interesting to see if EQ Next continues to be developed by the new company.
Also Massively was cut by AOL and they are going independent through a kickstarter campaign. The above link is the news article about the layoffs from Massively's new website.

Besides laying off Smokejumper, they laid off quite a few devs/designers/etc.
I still play and raid in EQ2 and a lot of fear and anxiety going on right now in regards to the layoffs and how will it affect the future of the game.
Quite a few got laid off from the EQN/Landmark team as well.

Wow, they laid off quite a few long time and well known people. Very interesting, I've been out of touch with this side of gaming for a few months (had severe RL concerns to focus on), so a lot of this is a surprise to me and I honestly can't see what's down the road, now.
Having said that, however, I do think that we're about to see an upheaval in the industry, very soon. Whether it will be catastrophic or just "field clearing" remains to be seen. Its kind of like Seattle's "waiting for the big one"... there's been rumblings and some shakers over the years, but all the signs are there for the big fault snap.
