Why I LOVE Gaiscioch!

I've been here over 5.5 years now and have been an elder quite awhile, one in training in Rift and full elder from the start of Guild Wars 2.

Things that keep me here:

1) Our credos and the fact most everyone follows them.  I can honestly say as an elder in the past two months I've only had to deal with two things breaking the credos in our ESO community.  Not bad for over 300 members there now with at least a 100 of them near daily regulars.  I do not feel like a babysitter as an elder and shouldn't have to be one.  In other guilds where I've been an officer, I got fed up because it was like trying to entertain children that needed to be in detention for their attitudes.

2) Everyone is very helpful in and out of game.  People have sent people things, helped people with money, helped with information, helped move things, etc.  A lot of people in the family do things to help others without worrying about what they will get out of it or what it might cost (time, money).

3) Most disagreements are usually worked out after people cool down.  Some times they don't since we are all human and people leave, but overall, the people that stay know how to deal with life as emotional and passionate people.

4) FUN!  We like to have fun and try to include others in it.  It's what got me here in the first place way back in Warhammer and what made me wind up one of the associate warband leaders during Fog's events there.  This was even before we got merged into the Badlands server where we expanded on this fun calling it the Battle for Badlands.  Now we do epic stuff like this in both GW2 WvW and ESO AvA.  There are still the random pranks, the definite must dive off cliffs as short cuts, and other fun mayhem included.

So I've been in other guilds as well, mostly for roleplay purposes through the games and I have to admit very few guilds I have ever been in made me want to stay like Gaiscioch.  I actually pretty much quit everything, but Gaiscioch and one other guild in ESO due to people not knowing how to repsect each other or thinking you have to RP what they want or your being mean, or a miriad of other simply selfish reasons.

There is only one other guild, and my brain can't remember the name any longer, in EQ and then moved to EQ2 that even came close to what Gaiscioch is with how the people treated each other.

This is a very special place and it will SPOIL you into knowing the right way to dealing with people.  =)

Well spoken !

I have not been here even 5 months. But I am constantly floored by the overall effort that is put into making this guild go.

The magazine. The forum. The new gameVox. The massive structure of earning points in all sort of categories. The donation system. It is mind boggling. And amazing.

My only regret is not being able to hang out online more often in the chat rooms, Gw2 and ESO events. Silly life getting in the way.

I agree.  I have been around MMOs for a long time and have never seen anything like it.

Aww, what a lovely post Bri!

I have been here just over 4 years now, I joined in Rift, played GW2 and  ESO with the family. I come and go as RL changes dictate, sometimes for several months at a time, but I always know I have an MMO 'home' and family to return to whenever life is smooth enough to allow playing time.  I am always so happy to see all the old names, familiar people and new people constantly flowing into the family bringing with them new energy and fun.

I love all the same things you listed Bri, go Gaiscioch!!!

The thing I appreciate MOST about Gaiscioch is the lack of profane language in RC and TS. I truly cannot stand how crass some peoples language can be. I guess I'm just old or something... ugh!! Very, very grateful that we keep communications family friendly!

Everything you said, Bri.  <3

The really eye-opening thing is that it's no accident the guild is this way.   Did you see fog's article from this month's magazine?  I've heard him mention bits and pieces of his family-building strategy over the years, but I guess I never realized how comprehensive it was.   (Thanks Fog!)

I've only been here for a little over a year but I can definitely second everything you said. The only online community I've been in that compares was my old WoW guild, which unfortunately dispersed to the four winds a few years ago. At least I know that Gaiscioch will still be here if (when) I need to disappear for a while to deal with Real Life stuff. :) Love you all, can't wait to see where the future leads.

I have been here for 3 years, and I am glad I took the chance with Fog's recruitment message back in Rift. Only one other group has been close to Gaiscioch, and that was the guild I was part of back in World of Warcraft from 2009 until 2013. After a certain piece of that game was introduced in the end of 2010, that guild disintegrated for the most part, but the guild leader wanted to stick with that game and not do anything else. So most of the people moved on.

I am glad that Fog is willing to branch into other games, but Gaiscioch is something completely different from the WoW guild. I love the people here. I missed playing with you guys, and it is nice to do so again. Even outside of GW2 and ESO (such as D&D, which is super fun with the Gaiscioch people).

Great post. :) Love this community, it is so rare to find something like it. I've found smaller guilds that had a similar feel in values, but not enough people and they became inactive in a pretty short time. Lakshmi, thanks for posting that article of Fog's. It was an interesting read to see all the thought put behind everything. Everything Fog, the elders, the community does to keep the family going the way it is is really appreciated.
