Putting myself out there

Hello everyone,

so as some of you know, dancing is my passion (aside from GW2 :P  ).

I love dancing in every style i can get into, if it's ballroom dancing or if it's streetdance. So except for 2 occasions i really haven't performed infront of anyone except the children in the lessons i give with my best friend. So I do have 2 videos of choreographies i came up with. I am not confident enough to make them public on youtube, but i have them on hidden and would like to share them with you. 

So as the title says im putting myself out there :3

The first video is of a competition that i made second place in :)

Excellent - I am not a dance expert but I thought those routines looked well practiced and precise.

You should be have confidence in your abilities, the vids show that you have skill and muscle control.

That looks like so much fun. I particularly like the second one, reminds me of things I would go see in college. :)

It takes courage to put yourself out there. 

The first one I felt like you were on the mark. 

I'm no dance guy.  I pretend to dance a lot.  Have no clue what's good, what's not. 

Mechanically, you seemed to be on the mark with the rythm.  But it was more than that, it flowed like you felt the music.  I felt something while I watched.  It kept my attention well. 

Do you dance with groups or just by yourself.  How about a single partner to dance with.

I guess what I'm saying is, I liked it.  When are you going to show us more?

The second one, I'd like to see it last longer.  I felt cut off.

But what do I know.

Nice job, Jay. :) Thanks for sharing those. You do flow very well in your routines, it's clear you've put a lot of time into this and it certainly seems to be worth it.

Congrats on getting second place in the competition. Did they explain why you didn't get first, just as a way to improve?

I loved it Jay - I can see you FEEL your music and express it in your dancing.  I so wish I was that limber ;-)  Now I know why you flow through your jump puzzles so well.

Love them but like Goat said, you cut the 2nd one off too soon, but it did give a good tidbit of what you could do.  You looked like you were having fun in the first one besides showing good control and execution.  The third was very short, but the crew looked like they were on the mark working together.

Thank you very much for your kind word's everyone. Dancing is my biggest passion and it's so gratifying to see that it comes across. And yes the second one is kind of cut short, i didn't finish it back then.

It shows that you love what you do!

Those are very enjoyable. I dance ballroom a few nights a week (which is why I play mainly days) and I can see you obviously work very hard, and show a lot of feeling in the dances. Like a few others, I would like to see more of the second dance it looks beautiful and the women I dance with loves it as well. Very cool, look forward to seeing more.

as an old fart, I think I threw my back out just watching those...LOL.  You certainly looked like you were having fun!  Way to go, Jay!

You had me dying to get up and dance with you! I wouldn't be able to keep up in the least, but I know I'd have a ton of fun dancing in class with you!

One thing to work on--don't be afraid to make your movements bigger/wider/more open for performances. I think you're used to working in a smaller space, and for a large stage, as I'm sure you already know, everything has to be larger, wider, broader, and more 'open'. Take command of that stage and make it YOURS. I don't know if I'm explaining that right! Anyway, it's not that you're doing it 'wrong', it's that you're 97% there when I know you can get 100% there--I can see you have that ability. :)

Things that are fantastic: Your music timing is awesome--I saw on one video where you had to catch up from the start because of a position change (turning the music on, I think?), and you had zero problems. Your body awareness in space and symmetry are fantastic, too.

Your flexibility is a tremendous asset. Having had to fight for every millimeter of flexibility I could get for Taekwondo, I know you've worked incredibly hard to get and keep that, so keep it up.

If you aren't working with expert level professionals to hone your skills even more, you NEED to be. :)
