I spotted this on Rock, Paper, Shotgun. http://joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace/pixelspace_solarsystem.html  It is a to scale map of the solar system as if the moon were the size of one pixel.  The best way to experience it is to just hold down your right arrow key and just let it scroll. Feel free to stop when you see a planet or a bit of text, then continue on. It really does do a good job of showing you the vastness of space. Just make sure you have 15-20 minutes and a lot of patience for this method. I'm feeling a bit tiny and insignificant at the moment, I think I'll lie down for a little nap.

Good hunting

Wow that was a lot of nothing, I went thru it all, and it is vast at that scale.   Still I did all of that for nothing lol

It wasn't for nothing. It was only 99.9999999999999999999958% nothing. Besides, if nothing were something, then it wouldn't nothing anymore. I think I (or perhaps Lewis Carroll) just gave myself a headache. ;)

One of my favorite quotes to put things in perspective:

"If the Earth is the size of a pea in New York, then the Sun is a beachball 50m away, Pluto is 4km away, and the next nearest star is in Tokyo. Now shrink Pluto's orbit into a coffee cup; then our Milky Way Galaxy fills North America."    — Wayne Hayes.
