I appreciate OldGoat (and others) posts re this topic. I am 54 and have been around computers and gaming since the early 80's. I recall playing my first text based game of Civil War on a machine with a ticker tape to load the application in 5th grade. I was hooked on gaming.
I bought a Timex Sinclair, a Texas Instruments TI 99/4a and typed in programs by hand into the Commodore 64 before I was able to afford a floppy drive. Working for IBM in the 80's I had an IBM AT Loaner at home with a green screen and dual floppies. Later they developed the $3000 10 gig 'Winchester drive'. It was a big deal when they launched the PC Junior. We used an email system called profs (mono green screens) before widespread use of internet email.
Was part of the faithful at Rich LaPorte's Gonegold.com (no longer active) - buying, selling and trading games.
Long time gamer, but just an MMO'er the past 8 years or so. Found Gaisicoch while surfing around gaming sites. Was immediately impressed with the friendliness of most family members and the distinct lack of nonsense and focus on an inclusive and fun gaming community with dedicated Elders (bravo to all of you!). Played a bit of GW2 with the family, now looking forward to ESO.
I am older and slower now but still like to run around with the kids.
Peace
