Why no WoW?

I'm sure it's been asked before but how does a guild this big with so many branches never ventured into WoW? I know tons of people are burned out on it by now but I'm sure too that some aren't and I would bet lots if not most have or still do play it. Looking through the guild's history there is no WoW ever! While I too am one of the ones burnt out on the game to an extent (I sub about 3 to 4 months out of the year at most and usually around expansion time lol) it would be awesome to have a guild to come back to off amd on with the caliber of Gaiscioch! My wife loves it still and subs a little more than me and would 12 months straight still if I didn't cancel my sub after 1 to 2 months at a time lol. Guess Ben doesn't/never liked it (that would be a good reason why)? Don't get me wrong there are tons of good guilds still in the game and I've had the pleasure of being in 2 or 3 of those over the decade. It's just that Gaiscioch is a guild that I can compare by best experiences in WoW guilds and somehow this guild never made it there!

At the time we looked into it we were exclusively a siege warfare based family. Wow had no siege warfare. We are big but we are focused. Plus wow released while we were actively playing daoc. We do not branch into every game everyone wants to play. We are focused in our approach and will never be in more than 2 games at a time. 1 free to play and 1 pay to play. I do not want to turn Gaiscioch into a community where people have to pay to visit me or have no idea who we are and what we stand for. I've seen those mega communities and the one thing I see is that nobody ever gets to know the leader, people get lost in hierarchy and their reputation suffers. I simply won't allow us to go that direction. Just 1 branch consumes countless hours every week to make functional. 2 branches even moreso. I simply can not be the leader I want to be in 3 or more. I am a front line leader. I want to hang out and shake the hand of each and every person that comes through our door.

I understand where you are coming from with the scope of it all for sure! And your systems and website are nothing less than professional to say the least. It just seemed that with WarHammer and Rift under your belt, WoW would have/should have been too hehe. A pity that it never worked out that way in my opinion! WoW does get stale easily especially to people like me who played it so hardcore for so many years but I just felt that a game of that magnitude could have been even better with your leadership ;)

I too played Warhammer for a bit but did not know of your guild at the time unfortunately and I still wished they would have somehow revamped it and fixed issues cause I still use to install that game from time to time just wishing the community and development would flourish but to no avail...Elder Scrolls and Guild Wars 2 makes more sense now knowing your feelings/direction with things.

Still...hehe...rated battlegrounds and raids would be a hoot for sure with you guys in WoW! I guess I will just have to keep the hope alive on my end that somehow it happens for whatever reason lol. I would be happy with even just something setup via our members and not affecting the website but uniting the ones that still play it or like me who try to give it up but cant more than a few months lmao.

@Wrift: you can still make contact with other WoW players via a forum post. In terms of Gaiscioch considering WoW for a formal chapter - that ship sailed long ago. It won't happen, for the reasons Fog outlined here (and there's a good explanation of the process of game selection here: http://www.gaiscioch.com/tavern/faq/post_60064.html ).

The good news is that there are WoW players here - I'm one of them - and we periodically surface when someone asks. :)  One of the recent posts is here, but feel free to start a new one:

http://www.gaiscioch.com/tavern/gaiscioch_discussion/post_67575.html

Edit: http://eso.gaiscioch.com/tavern/gaiscioch_discussion/post_78684.html also has WoW players in it, just noticed that one

I never left WoW, but haven't been doing much more than ingame and forum-based guild management since Cataclysm (ironically I feel obliged to stay, as we still have 700 diehard members who rely on the guild machinery to do it's thing until Blizzard takes down the servers for good). There are others here in Gaiscioch who are more active in WoW than myself though.

You may want to give it time though; with ESO just released, many members are focusing their attention there right now, and WoW is in one of those periods of pre-expansion apathy (low subscribers, low activity of current subscribers) as players wait for Warlords of Draenor to be released.

Aye.  I am an on-and-off WoW player.  I restarted my WoW sub a few months ago, but cancelled it last month with ESO.  I really don't have time to devote to 2 sub games.  You can find me in ESO and sometimes in GW2.

Agree Tyrra:  Give it some time, and some of us may return to WoW.

P.S.:  What server do you play on?  That's the other big problem I've come across.  Since Gaiscioch doesn't have an official chapter, all of us who do play WoW are spread across different servers.  A few years ago, I paid to transfer a toon, but then the people playing on that server stopped playing.  lol.

P.P.S.  I don't even raid or pvp in WoW.  My highest toon is low 80's.  Before cancelling, I was just starting to get into Panda expansion.  Now I hear there is another expansion coming out?

I played wow for a LONG time, I played through original vanilla and BC, which I had a lot of fun, and lich king was fun too, then around the time of cata it started going downhill... they dumbed down the talent system untill it was gone completely, and just overall made it easy mode, there just wasnt any challenge to it anymore... apart from the newer expansions just being plain silly, the main reason its not for me is that I love PvP, realm vs realm in particular, and with wow, pvp just kind of feels like an afterthought, like they called it in imo...

Anyways, I do think that there is some value there depending on what it is you personally are looking for in a game, but those are just my personal opinions and reasons for leaving. Games like WAR, GW2 and ESO float my boat mostly bc of the seige warfare and realm vs realm/ faction vs faction. Repeatedly doing raids over and over for endgame is not really my thing, I enjoy doing the raids and veteran dungeons once or twice, but what I really enjoy is RvR where you can go a million different times, do a million different things, and have memorable experiences each time.

I just realised that sounded bad, like I'm putting down the game, I'm not though, its just my personal opinion... I actually think you can have a lot of fun playing wow, in fact if I was going to introduce someone young to MMO's or pick a game to play with small family members, wow might be it... Take it with a grain of salt too as wow is PvE based (in fact the original vanilla version of wow didn't have PvP, it was added later) but what I really love is seige warfare and RvR...

Personally I'm really glad of the last two games picked to host our family's chapters, I started looking at GW2 and was super stoked about it, next thing I know, I see Fog's message about going there, Same thing with ESO, almost like he is in my head O_O lol... I enjoyed Rift but the main reason I stuck around was the family, without you guys I think I might have unsubbed much sooner, the telara saga was actually what drew me in, and events like that are what kept me around during rift... but the first time I went into RvR in GW2 on one of fog's events it just felt so right, it feels like the complete opposite of a grindfest and its the exact type of play that I enjoy. So obviously I'm biased but I hope every game picked from now on has something similar to RvR in GW2 or AvA in ESO, but I can totally understand the sentiment of wanting a chapter in a game like wow for the people who aren't as into the PvP side of things.

We're doing our best to find games for all type of people. We've got an extensive matrix that calculates the compatability score for us with over 200 line items. Right now for us to consider another branch eso activity needs to drop bellow 400 people or ArenaNet needs to close the Sanctum of Rall server. Neither of which looks likely anytime soon.

Server is no longer a major issue (as long as you're in the same region - US or EU). The BattleTag system allows you to form a party with players from other realms (as well as allowing you to chat between servers).

When you party with friends from different servers can you see them outside of an instance? sort of like guesting? or is it only for instances and raiding?

Yes, it's no longer limited to dungeons, raids and battlegrounds. It's a little like guesting, except you can do it with PvP, and it's based on the group leader's location rather than a manual server selection like you have in GW2. The group members are temporarily attached to the group leader's location, but will retain their own server's guildchat and Auction House (to prevent market exploits, since the AH's aren't game-wide in WoW).

You do have to be in the same faction (Horde or Alliance) to group though. Chat via the BattleTag system doesn't require players to be of the same faction.

Its also very difficult to put the amount of effort into multiple games that Fog does with just a couple.  He hasn't shared "the history" with the new ESO folks yet, but Gascioch is very much a "sole proprietor" organization, ie. its just he, himself and... himself, running it.  (there are reasons, good reasons)  Its difficult for a guild with a leadership delegation system to operate in multiple games, so you can imagine it would be an incredible strain for just one person to attempt more than two.  (I'm speaking from first-hand experience.)

Luckily, there are no other games on the near horizon that make a match with his Chapter scoring system, so his sanity should remain intact.  As stated above, its pretty easy to hook up in other games with family members, but the core still remains GW2 and ESO.

I'm an on off wow player myself. I too posed this question and I fully understand the answer. but knowing that we have a good amount of people here who DO play wow we can still hook up for raids, battlegrounds, dungeons and the like. through the Blizzard real ID. it allows people from other servers to get together and quest, raid, party with out having to switch servers.
