Heh, well the title about sums it up. My TT 450NL2NK power supply has been hard shutting down the last couple nights so I apologize if I left anyone stranded in conversation. And by shutting down I mean Bam! As if the  grid shut down. Im off to find a replacement as I peck away on my ipad. Any suggestions on a replacement or any ones I should avoid?

Trying to understand this.  Can the computer start again, could it start up right after it shut down?

If the computer shuts down when it gets hot only, then you might be able to solve your issue with $10 worth of canned air.

If that's not your issue and your computer normally runs fine on 450 watt, then I have developed a love for Corsair, you could check out their CX500M or around there.

Not knowing your system, if you over clock or running SLI, you might want to look into a 650 watt psu.

Thanks Booie, appreciate the tip. I've invested in some canned air (best buy guy told me he wasn't sure they still made it.  Gotta love the 'techs' there. ). Anyway I'mretty sure the culprit is just a cheap ps. Never been really impressed with thermaltake. So gave me a chance to swap out to a more stable ps.

Best buy's mission is to squeeze as much money out of people as they can, I have never been impressed with the help to cost ratio that they offer.  A friend of mine used to work for Geek Squad and I love the horror stories he has.

Office Depot or staples should have it in stock else Amazon has them

Ah yes... the knowledge of the averagely substandard retail person.  'What's that, you want bread?  I'm pretty sure they stopped making that last decade.  You really should look into iron filings instead.'

Canned air and general dusting of the computer area is a good thing for helping the system stay cool and run well.  You can also see if it is a fan issue, which can also cause overheating, and which may be cheaper to fix than a power supply.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to disagree on the Corsair suggestion...  I 'really' love their fans and keyboards, and most everything 'except' their PSU's...  Maybe I just got a lemon, but the 1k I bought blacked out on my FX processor upgrade about a year and a half ago and I hadn't even gotten the 290x in there yet. :(

I replaced it with a SilverStone and I'm absolutely loving it; fully modular (with 1:1 for cable pin outs too), whisper quiet, and she runs nice n cool even in a tight box.

I've never had any trouble with Corsair PSUs, but everyone has different experiences. Definitely don't want to skimp on the PSU. Research and read reviews, but I'd reccommend at least the 650 if you're running any kind of newer graphics card.

I just installed the Corsair RM750 Silent PSU and I love it. I've also got the Corsair H100 Water Cooling system AND a Corsair case, but I swear I'm not getting any kickbacks, lol.

I work for a tech supply company and build PCs as a hobby, so I'm always tweaking and trying new hardware. My go to is NewEgg.com OR MicroCenter locally if I can't wait ;)
