The stove element went out on my oven, and I have it unplugged until the new element comes in (hopefully in a day or two!!). I rarely do much in the microwave except reheat stuff. Does anyone have some good microwave recipes for a family of four besides 'TV dinners'?

Sorry bud, I wish I could help out but I don't think I've ever tried to microwave a home made meal before.  Google would be your best bet in this case.

If you have a food processor or blender you could probably get a mean soup going with a microwave.  There's a lot of different types of soups that range from light asian stock to heavy winter root vegetable.  A decent size pumpkin can get you about four or five meals for under $5, less if you are close to the local growers.

I have only one - Don't do it!

You're better off eating sandwiches.   I use to watch a microwave chef do all sorts of recipes in a microwave - whenever I tried the same thing - well, lets just say "the magic of TV" is amazing and in no manner carried forth into my kitchen when using the microwave.  I follow other recipes for stove top, Dutch ovens, crock pots, bar-b-que, and regular oven and everything turns out rather tasty - the microwave  - never a success except for heating up a cold cup of coffee.

Morigana's right. Unless you have a convection microwave (one that works like an oven as well), you're probably better off with sandwiches or toasties.

Here are a few ideas to keep you going: Mac & Cheese works in a microwave. A variation on that theme would be a pasta carbonara. Rice is easy to cook in a microwave too. Scrambled eggs are simple to prepare - just make sure you keep stirring the egg every 20-30 secs. Even bacon can be cooked in a microwave so that's breakfast done. Jacket potatoes are really easy too - just add whatever toppings you like and that's a decent meal. I lived on microwave cooking for a couple of years and found it to be quite simple to do - just don't over-cook things and you'll be fine.
