Why do you love heroic fantasy?

I don't think I am going out on a limb by saying that sword and sorcery fantasy--AKA Heroic fantasy--is one of the most popular genres out there. It gave us Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, several unforgettable (and unforgivable) characters countless movies and TV shows and computer games with tens of millions of paying fans.

So I ask this question of anyone who has seen a book cover that looks like this...

 

 


...and swooned...why?

What is it about this genre you love so much? It can't be just the dragons and magic and guys with big muscles and girls in bikini armor.

I know why I love it (and I'll post this later).  Why do you?

I enjoy a book, game, movie, or tv series that I can get lost in. A fantasy series tends to ignite my imagination with much more ease than other works, especially if it is based on any of the old mythologies which I find fascinating. Also, I have had a dragon obsession since I was a kid...
