If you post a link to your build, that will help. http://www.gw2db.com/skills/calc is a decent one to start with, they're all the same, just personal preference.

I just really can't be much help - I have an 80 Necro and wear Knight's armor that I got spending all my market place credits from the Gaiscioch crafters - wonderful crafters we have - yes we do. But I am dual dagger/staff and don't use pets. So I am specced heavy into the traits to use daggers, marks, and wells. I have enough trouble keeping track of me - let alone minions :( and I have no idea if my high precision, power, and toughness would help a minion master. I would be interested in learning more about minions - but my necro does mostly WvWvW and I've heard that minion masters just don't fair too well in that area.

Yeah its very subjective with what you want to use. For my dps set I am vit power and condition damage. which is the lich runes i use . But I primarily use my staff and marks so having the bonus condition dmg helps with bleeds and poisons. There are many guides on the net that give armor suggestions if you want to look for some ideas there based on your spec.

I've played Necro since Launch, almost 800 hours on that one toon, a lot of it in WvW, and I spec like Morigana, but I run full Rabid and focus on the condition damage of that build, rather than direct damage and crits.

I didn't stick with minions for very long, except the flesh golem in WvW. Do minions gain the player's bonuses to power and precion/crit stats? If so, I'd play around with Superior Runes of the Ogre and see how that rock dog works out. If all the damage increases apply to all of your minions, then all the stats can be good. (1): +25 Power (2): +3% Critical Damage (3): +50 Power (4): 5% chance to summon a rock dog when hit. (Cooldown: 60s) (5): +90 Power (6): +4% damage

I'm of the sad opinion that rune sets are smoke and mirrors. They boost one stat a great deal but there are usually 2-3 other stats they add that are useless. I would really like a rune set that does great things. I have a full set of the Mad King and the Summon Ravens to attack foes occurs when "activating" an elite. On almost every elite it summons them on "deactivation" of the elite (which I bug report about every 2-3 days) which is not when I need it or want it - and it is on the same cooldown as the elite. Really more smoke and mirrors than useful - imho. And I find this the same with most "sets". I just prefer a continual boost to stat whether it is condition, toughness, power, or percision - or all. My Ranger (at 65) isn't using a set of runes and does a fantasitc amount of crits - and yes, I have a fetish about crits - I lie awake at night thinking about them - then after falling peacefully to sleep - dream about them and wake up in the morning needing to brush my teeth since the taste of crits is in my mouth. (OK - I would be brushing my teeth anyway). There is just something about seeing huge numbers roll by. I'm using some stone that gives +20 to percision, +14 to power, and + 14 to toughness and have armor that gives percision and condition damage. The point is that with six gems - I get +120 to percision, + 84 to both power and toughness for a total of 288 points added to stats. Most rune sets add a total of 165 points to just one stat. Anyway, that is my opinion but maybe I'm missing something. At the moment I'm not buying into rune sets. And when I can afford some "uber" gems for my Necro I might just go that route especially since the summoning ravens is bugged - and I don't know if they will ever fix it.

Yes, Gems are very viable alternatives for Runes and Sigils. Rune sets are designed like that on purpose, just because you find no use for them doesn't mean that they are useless "smoke and mirrors".

So, the reason I call it "smoke and mirrors" is there is this "promise of a chance" (which isn't much of a promise) whereas something that does boost a stat continually isn't a "chance" - it is definitive. But.... this is just my opinion - although I didn't come up with this idea - but I do agree with it - and it is still just an opinion - but as far as theory crafting goes - I rather like it. And maybe I shouldn't have said they are "useless" - in my opinion yeah - but others may find a use for them.

Necro is a very subjective class. I have also played it since release and nothing else. I personally love the minion master spec even though its not considered the best pvp spec if you know what your limitations and strengths the minion master can be a ball to play with in pvp. I personally do not like pvp at all but the minion master spec has allowed me to at least tolerate it. See my build is more for defense and wall guarding and large scale fights . It is at a severe disadvantage in a small 1 on 1 fight or 1 group on one group. The biggest reason I run this spec is it gives you ALOT of survivalibilty in pvp. Wearing toughness, vitality, and + condtion gives me the balance I wanted . I primarily use staff so having bascially +1.5k bonus gives me well over 3k bleeds and poison dots. The bonus toughness and vit teamed up with the pet traits that give bonus tougness for each pet out along with power when over 90% health adds up. I run with 1 k defense and over 30k hps not in lich form. The question about pets you can trait into them where they give you a range of beneficial afffects. I run the bonus to toughness from # of pets out. The bonus to power from bonus to toughness. The pets steal condtions from you and apply them to themselves so they in a sense auto cure you which is a good thing in pvp. Lastly I run the lifetap proc on the pets so whatever dmg they do they give me hps back. When you add all this up I can achieve 40k hps almost in lich form and death shroud gives me another hp bar. Together its one of the best waves a necro can survive in pvp. It does have its flaws though as mentioned above. I would suggest ypou come up with your own style of playing it. Many people disagree on necro abilties in pvp and pve so much that you usually will end up being frustrated if try to find a cookiecutter build like other games. its more about the feel of the class to you. People used to tell me minion master was garbage in pvp but I didnt really much care I kept playing it and eventually I found my niche and it works quite well in pvp.
