I am only posting this since no one is really covering Engineers.  I've played with the engineer since launch and was always disappointed with the results when using anyone elses builds.  Not that they were wrong, but they weren't for me.

I really believe you have to love your character to play them well - it always isn't about mechanics especially since I am one of the older games - sometimes it is about how much passion you play your character with that keeps you motivated, moving, and having fun.  If you have fun while you're playing then it doesn't matter as much when you die, whether PvE or PvP, you'll shrug it off and run back in.  Right now this is the only character I have that feel with.  If by posting this, I can help one other person who loves the "potential" of the Engy obtain that feeling - then I will have done all that I could - and what I set out to do.

She is meant for open field fighting, but with a few quick changes she can help sieges or defenses.  I have been attacked by 3-4 in WvWvW and ran away alive (speed boosts help) and I've been attacked 1 v 1 by a thief and they ended up running away.  Do I kill one on one?  not usually... just being honest.  This build is about surviving and living to fight another day.  Support your fellow group mates and have the "potential" to do great damage under the right circumstances.  I'm doing this old school since I am terrible at linking...

Armor: All Exoctic

Medium Armegeddon Mask and Shoulders both with Coral Orbs

Medium Amageddon Coat and Leggings with Emerald Orbs

Pillaging Noble Gloves and Boots with Emerald Orb

Dual Travelers Orian Pistols (these were transmuted because of the look 64 pow, 64 per, 90 T - ea.

I have mostly exoctic trinkets, etc. with a mixture of orbs for power, toughness, condition damage, percision.

I end up with  1580 power, 1757 percision, 1541 toughness,  1350 vitality, 869 T, 20% Boon Dur, 2609 Attack, 44% crit chance, 2605 Armor, 19422 health, 20% cond, dur., 167 heal power.

Slotted are Med Kit, Elixer Gun, Flame Thrower, Rocket Boots, and Turret Kit.

Traits:

20 with V, X

20 with IV, VI

10 with VI

20 with IV, IX

0

Highlights:  Several traits give regeneration, might, healing skills... Flame thrower will do great AOE, has your KB, and puts incendiary ammo on my toolbelt.  Rocket Boots gets me away from trouble and breaks CC while doing damage to opponents but you have to watch your surroundings so you don't propel yourself off a cliff (although in WvWvW this can actually be useful).

This is not a Min/Max build - I see it as straight down the middle.  You will survive a lot, do decent damage, help keep groups alive (elixer gun is great with an AE heal plus you have Supply Crate.

It is easy to switch out kits depending on your circumstances.  Learn to assess the fight before hand.  If I am one on one with a melee type I will kite using bomb kit in place of Flame thrower and sometimes substitue Battering Ram for Rocket Boots if the opponent has no CC abilities.  I actually only need to kite vets and above and some lvl 80 mobs - and thieves in WvWvW.

The engineer is a great multifaceted class - learn to change up the toolbelt based on your opponent.  When running a group use what is most beneficial to the group which I find is the AE of Flamethrower and Elixer Gun - and the AE on pistols.  But again.... this is "me"... your experiences may vary... and yes, it took me many, many, many respecs to find the path that suited me and my playstyle.  It let me love my pirate, assassin (she is actually pretty darn good at killing fleeing opponents), scalawag, High Plains Drifter.   (I have transmuted much of my gear to give me the appearance of a "gunslinger" - and I play her that way... it gives me the desire and passion I spoke of... I have found myself in her.)

Now if they would give me a "sniper" shot like the Engy in WH ... I would be totally, deeply, and madly in love.

PS.  I also have a lvl 80 Necro and Ranger and two more past 50.  The Engy was the most fun to play - but that is for me... I hope it can be for you also.

Engineer is my favorite class by far. So much I cannot get myself to play the others. Last night I was a little scared when I realized I´ve played mine for more than 850 hours oO. I liked your build. It´s gotta good capability to do damage and also a lot of support. I also love rocket boots. It´s a gap opener, a stun breaker and a blast finisher, while also having one of the best toolbet skills. Also it´s very engineerish to explode yourself to escape a situation. xD In the end, it´s all about having fun. And exploding stuff is always gonna be fun! :D I guess I´ll post my build in the forums later as well, even if I´m still changing it all the time. I guess it keeps things fresh :)

It did for me - but like I stated - I love the engy set up this way. I ran dual pistols for a long time - and never used turrets. As soon as I could get supply crate and the trait for extra supplies in the crate I did. I used it as an emergency in PvE. With elixer gun and med kit, you get two heals in your toolbelt. Before starting a fight you can open med kit and drop bandages - and hit the kit #5 which gives you 33% speed boost and +20% to crit - and if needed during the fight you have #4 which cures conditions. If you get into big trouble you can drop the supply crate for the healing turret and bandages - net turret and flame turret. You also have a trait that gives you regeneration when using a kit - which includes Flame Thrower and Elixer gun. For leveling I would often swith the Rocket boots out for bomb kit - you can kite in circles dropping bombs and if needed quickly switch to med kit to get the boosts and heals. When you are running and drop a bandage or the buff you run right through it - no need to stop. With this setup I kited a champion several times with only 1 or 2 other players helping - and killed it - never dropping below 50% health. Big-old-bomb on the tool belt is a really blast to use. I would only equip the rocket boots in PvE when dealing with spiders and other mobs that CC me. I equip them constantly in WvWvW but switch them out for grenades if defending towers/keeps Since they bumped up Flame Thrower - it is awesome... In WvWvW standing inside a Supply Crate drop with an AE heal from Elixer gun - then spraying forth flames is awesome. I survived much longer now that I have this build AND I hve fun. In WvWvW I drop the supply crate often and sometimes right in the middle of enemies - it does blast damage on landing. Whenever it is up and were fighting more than a handfull of enemies - I drop it. I have never played SPvP so not sure how it would hold up. I tried several other builds - including the Grenade/condition/percision. It does awesome damage but in the open field I found it cumberson to throw grenades and I was always quickly targeted by the enemy and squished. With this build I am also targetted quickly - big flames coming out the flame thrower and all... but I am much harder to take down. At 25% health I have 3 secs of invunerability - and the med kit can still be used :) so I hit all of them as I run away and get some health back - and in most instances get right back into the fight with my group. Many engineers use the healing turret - I find it limiting - since you can quickly be chased out of it's radius - the elixer gun gives me heals, toolbelt heal, a close up AE... The AE heal is a regen that lasts like 10 secs and can used every 20 secs - and cures conditions when your team shoots through it. Also tried a rifle build someone had posted with the net turret for CC. As already stated - I find turrets limiting especially in WvWvW - running with Spartan and even with Fog, you get used to charging right into the thick of things - guessing when is the proper time to drop turrets is a nighmare. I prefer playing the same way in PvE and WvWvW just so that I know my character better. I actually had a warrior running away from me - unloaded pistol 2-4 on him - then Flame thrower 3, 2, 4, and spayed with 1 - he dropped to 1/4 health in just a few secs - first time a warrior ever fled from me. I now find myself chasing down rangers and eles... Mesmers - not a big issue with Flame Thrower - AE from #1 gets rid of all clones... quick. Honestly - it is the only class I truly love to play - over my 80 ranger, over my 80 necro, over my ele who I am leveling and is 67. The ele is in second. The versatility of the engineer is what can get you through almost any situation - just have to learn to be versatile. It is like the ele - you are at your best switching between toolkits - and switching often - so all your big cooldowns - which are your big skills - are always up being used - just like the ele. It requires much more thought which is what I love. I hate spamming 1 or 2 skills - and I don't - not with this build. Sorry for the rambling - really do love my engy now. I have said too much.... I haven't said enough...

i've been running in wvw with my engi and well i hate using the grenade or bomb pack so i've always ran with flamethrower and elixer gun and i love it, even more now with the changes they made to Flamethrower... skills i have med pack, flame, elixer gun, elixer B or R and supply crate i run a 0 30 III, VIII, XI for the juggernaut trait, tons of thoughness 0 30 II,VII,VIII 10 IV love this skill simply because just by equiping the elixer gun u get a healing cirlce, so u can actually pop2 healing circle on the ground, can even do this if u are knockdown so far as for gear i have a mix of CoF power/vit/ condition and SE power/vit/tough for the runes i've left the one from the gear simply because cof bump up power and burn dmg and SE bumps toughness and burn... possibly some sup runes of water for healing depending if i think i need more jewels i was thinking of getting cleric to bring up my healing possibly with ruby orb in the socket to help my dps and for my role well i can bring very good dps and tons of healing, all the toughness makes me very dificult to kill and find myself outlasting alot of ppl even in some of the big mobs who hit us... i loved ym guard in wvw but finding myself enjoying this engi build alot more

Engie's gotta be my favorite class by far. I've actually got two now, since I only really enjoy 3 other classes besides it, so that leaves me with one open character slot. :P My first one is a cond. damage build, the other heals with the bomb kit and such. Both are loads of fun.

I wasn't into my orgional engie so I recently deleted and rerolled her. I've been using this build so far and like it. At 80 is the med kit the only source of speed boost?

Yep - for this build. But - it is a 12 sec boost available every 20 secs. I did another build using kits that every time you swapped kits you had a 5 sec speed boost and could actually keep it up continually but... it was my choice to forsake speed - other than the med - to have greater survivability in big fights. I would rather have the other attributes that allow me to heal groups and stand in doorways or at the top of a ramp with flamethrower blasting laying down cover fire (haha - pun totally intended). If I can stay alive long enough to let the enemy blow through their big skills - then I can own. Since switching to Flamethrower and Elixer gun - or grenades - or bombs - give me a whole new set of big cooldowns. They may have two weapons to swap to - I have 3 or 4. So my theory is to stay alive - run in circles - then turn on them ;) In large groups a good engy can save lives and take them. There are so many tricks for the Engy - you really have to look at all they can do with napalm and fire bomb - both fire combo fields... smoke bomb - smoke combo field, supply crate is actually a blast finisher... There is just a whole mix-up of gadgets to use. Running with a squad - I just don't have spped problems. And note: If you're moving backwards - you can drop that med kit in front of Dolyaks to speed boost them also. As a matter of fact you can lay it out ahead of time and they stay in the world about 45 secs - the speed/fury stack when you run through them. I can get 3 down - for over 30 secs of speed - and then keep dropping them - run for almost a minute at speed boost.

I use speedy kits with all my wvw builds. If you get both speedy kits and number 1 from elixirs(invigorating speedy), you can have both perma vigor and perma swiftness and dodge like there's no tomorrow!

awesome build! i gotta try it out sometime. i love my engi and it was my first fully leveled character in an MMO ever =). i usually get too bored with the same skills over and over. but with the engi in GW2, there's too much variety! i fully leveled my engi (Ulysses the Small) by WvW alone. currently running the Tankcat build on the GW2 forums i need to bring him to do dungeons to get better gear though... i have 0 experience in endgame pve so i'm a little lost where to get started for gear. looking to run a build like yours

All kit skills are now on a static global recharge (20 seconds). The changes are as follows: •Med Kit: Equipping this kit applies Magnetic Aura. •Bomb Kit: Equipping this kit creates a Magnetic Bomb that pulls enemies toward the center after a brief delay. •Elixir Gun: Equipping this kit activates a Glue Trail that follows the player for a short time. Enemies that step in the glue are briefly immobilized. •Tool Kit: Equipping this kit grants the user Super Speed for a brief duration. •Flamethrower: Equipping this kit grants the player Flame Aura for a time. •Grenade Kit: Equipping this kit drops a mine at the player’s location that deals damage and removes a boon. •Skills that activate this trait can now activate in midair. •Blowtorch skill: No longer displays “miss” on attacks that connect at medium and far distances." I've already been leveling a new engineer - yes, I'm obsessed with them and want to see if the new turret skills are really any good. Not to mention trying out the new Kit Refinement skills... especially the "glue trail" from equipping the Elixer gun - sounds like a great escape tool. Also - "no line of sight" to toss grenades.... hmmm can I now toss them over walls - I need to check this out. I might just rock two engies with different builds. honestly, if I play anything else I miss being on my engy :) Safe journ all - and keep your powder dry.

I think they had to get rid of the healing circle - it is one thing that really offset me in battles from any thing I fought - even in WvWvW - yes it was much better than Glue Trail but if you used Elixer gun and Med Kits - and were traited for the Healing circle - well healing was way overboard. It gave me Healing elixer, two heals on my Toolbelt, plus the healing circle - and if I dropped Supply Crate down with healing turret and bandages - it was a nightmare to get me down (which was fun). Now, I still have all but the Healing circle on changing over to Elixer Gun - I still do quite a bit of healing... but just as the mesmers took a hit for balance, I think they had to do something to our vast healing abilities. One thing that makes me quite happy with the Engie - is my ability to draw attention and make every mob - and "Defender" take off after me. I am hated - and that is a good thing. It seems dropping a supply crate on a few defenders along with a few dozen grenades really ticks them off. I enjoy the attention :) On another note - still not fond of the turrets and I can't put my finger on it - they just don't feel right.
