Hi all!  I finally have my first lvl 80!!  So now im looking for a little build advice.  Here is some backgrund on what im going for and what i currently have:

Skills: 10 Rad, 30 Valor, 30 Honor.  Was trying to go for a battle healer type or my build.

Weapons:  Mace/Shield and Staff.  I'm really not looking to change this at all.

Equipment: Right now I split my gear into half Valkyrie (3 pieces) and half Cleric (3 pieces).  I have Major runes of Dwayna (4/4) and Major runes of Water (2/2) on my armor.  For weapons im using all Cleric's Pearl.  I have crit runes on the mace/shield and a heal rune on the staff for ranged combat.

I'm really looking for a build that is ok (doesnt have to be great) in all areas of the game.  In other words well rounded for wvw pvp pve dungeon and fractal runs.

I was considering changing my armor to full Knight's gear and weapons to Beserker wepons??  I hear that this is good for fractals but im not sure if its good all around in general.  I also need some advice on what accessories, amulets and rings i should take and what runes are best for a guardians armor and weapons???

All advice is greatly appreciated - I was going for an over all support guardian/healer type.

As far as a well rounded build goes, I would suggest you read up on Altruistic Healing hammer build. It's a pretty solid starting point, with plenty of flex in variants. Guide-Hammer-and-Altruistic-Healing-gameplay There are quite a few other build you can go with as well, but it really depends on what you're comfortable with. For me, I get a lot of mileage out of a meditation heavy build, just because I'm kinda nuts. Meditation Monk Hope this helps.

I played a Guardian since the head start as my main, and he is my go-to guy, as well as my Fractal runner. I run all Knights (with the Knight's Variation for Ascended items - this has Precision as the main stat, instead of Toughness like regular Knights). Ends up with 55ish chance to Crit. I know you said you run Mace/Sheild and Staff and don't wish to change that. I can respect that, but I will say I use Hammer + Scepter/Focus while keeping a Staff and Shield in my bag for swapping. Staff is next to useless in end-game content and Fractals in general, other than extra speed for Swamp fractal. Hammer is too good to pass up on as a main weapon, dropping tons of boons for your allies (and for Altruistic Healing to proc). Scepter beats Staff for ranged DPS, as well as the Immobilize for certain fractals (Dredge, Shaman). Focus beats Shield because of the Blind, lower cooldowns, and higher DPS. The build I will link offers lots of Synergy when rolling Hammer + Scepter/Focus, and will keep you at 25 stacks of might almost all the time (in group play, thanks to Empowering Might and Inspired Virtue/Renewed Justice). With Altruistic Healing and the general guide I'll list, you should be pretty hard to kill, offer tons of support and utility to your group, and deal out really good DPS while basically tanking every encounter (thanks to the massive amount of Toughness, boons and DPS). Build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUMQNAS7dlUgqCnFyvDfIFRuA7DAETBGh/1DHSRGC-e The general theme here is using Shouts, crits, and combo finishers from your Hammer to toss out tons of Might and basically ALL boons to your party frequently. I keep Might at max stacks and Fury up almost all the time, with tons of tiny heals trickling in constantly. Your F1 (Virtue of Justice) will refresh each time you kill a foe, so you should be spamming this as often as possible (sometimes a LOT, like constantly, as in Dredge fractal). This will not only give you loads of might, but it will Blind nearby foes (thus dealing you less damage, for increased survivability). Blind can also be found on your Focus, and as an added bonus, you apply Vulnerability whenever you apply a blind, increasing your individual and group DPS while decreasing the damage you (and your party) takes. Your Heal (Shelter) also builds Might, as you earn might when Blocking. Your shouts will heal you while buffing yourself and allies. The shouts can be swapped out for Wall of Reflection and Shield of the Avenger when necessary for certain encounters (uncatagorized Fractal, Bloomhunger, etc). Running this build, I am quite often the last-man-standing in any group, and 99% of the time I have the aggro of the entire room. This allows me to kite quite well, which helps my team do more DPS without worrying too much about defense. I suggest trying this build, you can't really go wrong. Some notes: I run 2x Superior Rune of the Monk, 2x Superior Rune of the Water, and 2x Superior Rune of Hoelbrak for Might and Boon duration. These can be swapped for 6x Rune of the Soldier, if you find you can't live without Purity of Voice (Shouts remove Conditions); personally, in group play I find this usually unnecessary, as your heals will offset most condition damage, and your party will occasionally toss out a cleanse as well. Can't remember my Sigils right now, but I think its Force on my Hammer, and Force/Fire on my Scepter/Focus. Run Chocolate Omnomberry Cream for precision and Boon Duration, with Crystals for more precision. Also a note on why the mace is bad for fractals: you will find you very rarely have the opportunity to stand in one place and benefit from the heals. If you're standing still, its because you're using shields and not taking damage, thus rendering a mace obsolete. You'll find most of the utility you like from the mace/shield combo in the Scepter/Focus combo, with more DPS and better skills for most content (and better Synergy in the build). Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps. Happy to answer any questions you may have if you decide to try it out : )

Thanks all for the advice! I do appreciate all the help. I do keep a hammer around in my pack at all times because i really like the way the swaps works between mace/shield and then hammer. I was always a hammer fan LOL.

as for wvw point of view, staff rocks out simply because of the area dps, the heals and speed, I use it quite a bit.. after the staff well I have 3 change up depending on the situation.. great sword for more dps, mace shield when I'm defending towers or chock points, and scepter and shield(sometimes torch) for when I'm roaming around and get in 1vs1 situations with thieves.... as for build I don't have a link but look up boon duration, I find in wvw it works well specially with keeping up retaliation on your group witch can seriously hurt your opponent, and a constant running boost is always nice...not forget a lot of heals

Agreed. With the few changes they made to the class, it seems almost any build can be viable for the guardian. You all helped to make it easier for me to decide what i wanted to do. So, After a few guild outings and playing with equipment a bit, here's where I'm at now with my build. I put the runes and sigils in the build and the equipment as well. It's a bit off because i have equipment that is not currently in the builder. However, it's close enough. I'm using mace/shield, Hammer and staff depending on the situation. I've also listed the traits in the build. Here's the link: Guardian Build

OK - I don't play a Guardian, but this almost makes me want to... "For me, I get a lot of mileage out of a meditation heavy build, just because I'm kinda nuts. Meditation Monk" Ignis I mean really - this has such a "cool" factor to me.... "Meditation Monk"... I love it!!!

Thats one of my problems with the guardian LOL Too too many paths to choose from that there is no clear cut wrong or right or "cookie cutter" build!! Hey...I can always re-roll and re-equip if i feel it's not working for me :)

Toss in the realization that every one of the common builds need very different gear sets to make them shine. It gets very spendy, very quickly.

I think i finally have something that works for me now. It took a long time and a lot of reading to figure it out but it was worth it so far. I changed my trait lines to something that makes a bit more sense. I'm getting more DPS with the new lines but it was at the sacrifice of some Health, Vitality and Healing. Some...not all. I picked up a huge amount on Precision, crit chance and increased condition damage though. The goal now is to move into full soldier gear at some point even if it's one piece at a time LOL. Again, I still carry hammer and scepter and use them depending on the situation. Comments are welcome......Build has a clicky off my signature at the bottom. Thanks again for all the input.

It takes me several months to iron out a build to where I feel it. I might look to websites or talking to others for basic jumping points, but I've found that I usually need to make several tweaks via trial and error before I get a build where I want it to be. Spartan has extensive experience with a WvW Guardian build, and I know that he's also run it in dungeons, fractals and Orr farming. I'm not sure if he's tweaked it any since I last talked to him and took screenshots of the chat, but he's had amazing results with it. Since he and I have a very similar style of play, I wanted to use his build as a starting point for when I get mine to 80. Ralcore has already responded, but he'd be my choice for advice for a Fractals and Dungeons build.
