Hi all,

Sorry its one of these questions but I am after some info on what the HoT expac is like. I was playing GW2 up to a few of months ago and only stopped playing due being busy with finishing a new house then moving also have just been getting my gaming fix by playing some console games. Now I am coming up to the Christmas holiday period I am looking at what I want to play and have been looking at HoT and Elders Scrolls Online(which I already own). My only issue is with HoT I will have to buy it and with the Aussie dollar having an average exchange rate atm it starts to make it pricey(as would have to buy for my son as well) and the only reviews I have read or seen are from people that are saying that they are tired of the game and are taking a break. Any information would be appreciated and hope to see you in some game soon. :)

I truthfully, love the game - but I am an old grandma ;)  - HoT takes a bit of getting used to and the battles are a bit harder. As for actually buying HoT - Gpa Fog, only has the base game and never upgraded and finds plenty to do. The only thing is - you won't be able to get into the new areas and you will be without a glider.  You can go to the new WvW area. With its many changes coming from what I hear, the new map is really amazing. Got to get used to it all over again.  ATM I play both games HoT and ESO - Being I started with GW2 first, I tend to be swayed toward it.  There has been constant upgrades and fixes, which makes it fun for me.

If you enjoyed the more event driven maps such as Dry Top and Silverwastes you will likely greatly enjoy HoT as all 4 new maps are that style. Additionally if you wanted more complex and difficult content in GW2 HoT will also appeal to you and its likely worth the investment.

If neither of those apply to what you enjoyed about GW2 then HoT will only provide about 30-40 of exploration that is more interesting and challenging (both through its multilayered map design and its stronger enemies) and some fun new ways to play your characters thanks to elite specializations (which are not immediately available). Its up to you whether the pricetag is worth it in this case.

I live in the other side of the world, Argentina to be more precise. So we understand the issue with the dollars and how much is that in the local currency.

I got HoT on release, and we love it! With my partner we finished the story, there are tons of things to do in the new maps, new things to gather, the new masteries. I think it's the best 100u$s we have spent this year :3

The guild now is also very active, with people doing stuff and willing to help friends :D

The new areas and mechanics are fun - gliding and mushroom jumping, and all the events on the new maps. There are also some Tyria masteries that will help with crafting legendaries, crafting in general, and fractals. I've gotten a lot of play time out of the expansion so far and still working on achievements and masteries.

Truthfully this is a terrible place to get an unbias opinion on the matter.

I like the game and the expansion brings alot but it's not necessary if you are looking for content. I bought the expac and have spent a little over 10 hours out there. It's nice it's neat but there is still so much of the original game I'm trying to catch up with that I just havn't had time to get out there.

Now if you want the elite specs, those are really fun. Those will require the xpac in order to play.

With people saying they are tired of the game, I can see that actually. The game added in a few more "grindish" achievements that are absolutely not required and a large percentage of "vocal" players are not liking that because they have already grinded out everything possible in gw2 for the last 3 years. The new items that are slightly grindy are so that Anet can slow you down and let you experience the content over the next development lifecycle so they can put out another large piece of interesting content.

So if you just take it slow and play the game to enjoy it it's not a problem at all. But you are doing it that way then you still have a large percentage of the original game to complete so HoT while neat is not necessary.

As far as ESO I played it and it's not what I was expecting or wanted in an mmo of that title so I'm going to give it a few more years to catch up to where it needs to be before jumping back in to it. That or it will fail, which ever comes first.

The thing I like most about GW2 is the combat system... for an MMO the combat is fluid and fun.  I also love to kill all the things, especially open world where I can make my own challenges, solo that champ, etc.  I also like map meta events, and filling my bags with loot. :)  Gliding and the elite specs have been awesome.  So for me, HoT has been wonderful, and it really breathed new life into the game for me.

I realize folks like different things, so it's good to ask around for different opinions.

Returning player myself. Is the expansion content just for 60+?

Arcadis, mostly for level 80.

The new PVE zones are level 80, so are the elite specializations and updated fractals.  The new WvW zones are available to everyone -- you don't need HoT at all for those.

The other new content is called masteries.  Starting at level 80, these allow you to unlock new abilities for your entire account.  Many of them are tied to the HoT zones, but some others let you do fractals more easily, or craft precusors for legendary weapons instead of hoping to get them as a drop.

About the only HoT thing you don't need to be 80 for is the new revenant class (and it's a good one).  So unless you want to play revenant, you can safely wait until you are 80 to decide.

Thank you!

80, right, forgot what max level was. I have an 80 and a couple near 80 but I think I'll level up a new Revenant at least until I remember how to play. I spent 5 minutes looking for my quest journal last night before I remembered the "hearts" were basically the quests.

I also wanted to consolidate all the coin on my characters and it wasn't until after my 3rd one I realized it wasn't a coincidence that they all had the exact same funds.
