Check to make sure your network adapter is not disabled, I would also update the drivers if there any. ipconfig/ release and then type renew

also ping 127.0.0.1 This  ip range will loop back your nic, if it comes back with replys the card is fine.

I would try what Iggi said with the ping to network card and also check in your device manager under control panel to see if it thinks the network card is okay or not (if you haven't done that yet).

If all that works, did you use the same cable for the desktop as the laptop for connecting to your network hardware?  If you did, then you at least know the cable didn't have something break in it.

Can't think of anything else to try before running off to support other than what I just added to Iggi's stuff.

I am using win vista 64 , and yes  i used the same ether cable  on both the pc and labtop .

all i did was turn off the pc sunday night and turn it back on monday , when the tech was helping me on the phone , we tried typing reset code in the google browser and it didn`t do anything so we tried to reset the ip several times and it wouldn`t change the ip .

then i hooked up the labtop and we typed code for reset in browser and it worked fine so may be my network card is bad . as she said i may have a virus , so i ran three full scans with malware and avast  plus win defender    didn`t find anything .

One more thing you can try is to set the ip information manually.  This does however depend a little the brand modem or switch you connect too.

I would get the information from your laptop by using ipconfig and change the last number in the ip to something other than 1 or what the laptop is using.  You need IP, Netmask, Default gateway and at least one DHCP server.

To get this information, use the command ipconfig /all and copy

IPv4 Address

Subnet Mask

Default Gateway

DHCP Server

if this doesn't work, then you probably have to shop around for a new network card that fits in one of the empty internal slots.

Did you /ping 127.0.0.1 as Iggi suggested?  You should see something like this if internally the computer is talking to your network card correctly:

Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1:  bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128  (repeats 4 times)

Then it summarizes that 4 packets were sent and recieved and summarizes the average time.

Even if this is good it could be the external hook up side of the network card gone bad.  But if it can't talk intenally it is definitely bad.

If you go into control panel - system - device manager and then open up the network adaptors you do not want to see an explanation mark in a yellow bubble indicating a problem.  If you double click on the card listed it will open a box and in a text box on the lower part of the window it will tell you 'This device is working properly.' or something else if it is not.  This is where you can see what the latest driver is too.  My computer is an older model so I have 2009 driver with my card, but it works just fine.  Thinking about it I think this computer Win Vista 64 operating system is actually a 2009.  Time flies when you're having fun.  Only updated the graphics and power supply to keep it going with all these games so far.

Anyway, if even all this stuff looks good, I would probably have someone with diagnostic tools look at it and verify what is going on.  Thankfully for me I know a guy that works out of his home that does an awesome job of this.  Hopefully the shop you mentioned is a good on.

This would be my suggestion, just to get DHCP out of the equation.  On your laptop, hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press the R button.  When the Run dialog appears, type "cmd" and press enter.  In the command prompt that appears, maximize the window and type "ipconfig".  Look for the connection that shows an IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.  Write down the number of the Default Gateway.  It should be something like 192.168.1.1.

Next go to the desktop computer and right click on the networking icon in the lower right corner and click "Open Network and Sharing Center".  Click "Change Adapter Settings", right click "Local Area Connection" and then select "Properties".  In the Properties window, select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".  In the next dialog, select "User the following IP address:", and in the edit boxes put the following:

IP address:  Put the default gateway's number from the laptop, but add 1 to the end.  So if the default gateway is 192.168.1.1, make this 192.168.1.2.

Subnet Mask:  255.255.255.0

Default Gateway:  Same as laptop's default gateway

Then select "User the following DNS server addresses."  In the edit boxes put 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.  Click ok and close all of the dialogs.

See if this corrects your problem.  Note that I'm assuming you're running Windows 7.  If you're running Windows XP I would highly suggest you upgrade to 7 or 8, and if you're running 8, you have to go to the Desktop before doing any of these.  Also, the DNS server address I gave you are for Google's public DNS (just letting you know).

Are you running Windows XP by chance?  If so, have you upgraded it to Service Pack 3?
