Suggestions on a good video editing software

Hello Family!

I've begun creating videos of my gaming adventures and posting them on youtube. I really enjoy the video editing process, and I enjoy playing video games, so I figured I'd give "Youtubing" a shot.

At present I have been using standard windows movie maker cause it's what I have on my computer. I would like to know if there is anyone who has done something similar, and knows of a better video editor that is either free, or relatively cheap. I work at McDonald's, so I don't have much money to spend on side projects haha.

I recently upgraded my mic so I could have better sound quality, so as of right now, my upgrade budget is minimal.

If anyone is interested, I've uploaded 2 videos so far, of DayZ, since that is what I play most often right now, search Artrath96 on youtube. I pride myself on keeping my videos free of profanity, clean of vulgar topics, and family friendly.

Also, if you know of a better video capture software than fraps, please let me know! I can't use Nvidia Shadow, because I have a Radeon graphics card.

Thanks!

Ragmar.

Sony Vegas Pro (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware) is, imo, the best video editor hands down. But, it's kind of expensive. A good free alternative is Lightworks (www.lwks.com) and it's pro version has a cheap monthly subscription or a relatively low-cost single license purchase price. The free version can only output MPEG-4 at 720p (your standard YouTube format), while the pro version does it all.

You can do very basic stuff with something like ezvid if you are looking for something less intensive.
The options on lightworks are far greater, but ezvid is easier for a new user to learn, allows for voice-over, placement editing, altered duration, still inserts, and some music is loaded in.

Basically, lightworks if you are looking to start doing a LOT with videos, ezvid if you just want to put together clips with sound.

For capture:  You can try several different things.
1.  obsproject.com  an open source free live stream and recording program.
2.  D3Dgear.com    a non-free option that seems reasonably priced and works nicely from what I have heard.
3.  epicrewind.com  a free/paid (basic is free, there is a paid version with more to it) is a little different, with a constant memory buffer recording that isn't saved or encoded until you hit a hotkey.  Aka, you play, and save when you got it right... which can be nice when trying something tricky.
4.  Apowersoft.com  An online recorder.  You will need the page open and will start recording online before you go, but it can help reduce system side lag due to the online nature.

Hope this helps!

Is Fraps Win8 compatible?

I went to download it and it doesn't say it is anywhere that I could find on the site. The latest "news" was dated Feb 2013, so its a bit old.

This thread reminded me that I had not reinstalled fraps and lightworks after rebuilding and upgrading my machine this past March. But as with a lot of programs I use to use, upgrading from Win7 to 8 has been a bigger hastle than its been worth so far.

What capture software are others using?

Edit: Okay so after re-reading some of the other replies, I went to check out Epicrewind. It seems like a much more machine friendly capture software, think I'll give that a shot instead of hoping fraps will work with Win8. Thanks Jairone for that little list of options.

Fraps works on Win8.1 - I use it. I use OBS for streaming.

For choices that don't break the bank, I've used Womble, which is pretty darn easy to use and is I think under $100. I've now switched over to Adobe Premier since I need a few more things than Womble can offer, but I don't need all the bells and whistles (and cost) that come with Vegas.
