Ele58/ Pyro 18 is a very fun build atm.  Good DPS and easy to play.  Guide here.

I even use it to solo at level 70, with very few changes.

  • Build: Frostkeeper 0 instead of Dominator 0 for legendary Rime (auto self heal).  In Pyro move a point from Stoke the Flames to Flicker (optional, but I like the mobility).
  • Use the rock pet with Synergize
  • Make a copy of the Nuke macro, and remove "cast legendary neural prod"

For combat I send the rock pet to hold the mob(s) in place for my Firestorm and use the rotation from the guide above.  It's beast!

(If it's easy solo you can just use the rock pet and synergize with the standard build.  Stuff dies FAST)

PS: this is not a build I'd try for leveling... it really needs those legendary skills unlocked -- in other words, level 70.  A Harbinger/Chloro offers much more survivability for leveling.

I might have to try this. I'm really struggling with necromancer.

Lilou, I had the exact same problem with Necromancer as well, I loved that class, but coming back for the new expansion Is the most I have ever died in Rift. I also need to try the above spec.

While this is fantanstic at 70, I'm not sure this is the best leveling build... it really relies on those legendary skills, which unlock gradually as you level to 70.

If this is still too squishy, I recommend a harbinger/chloro build.   This has a lot more self-healing and defense.  See this thread: http://forums.riftgame.com/game-discussions/rift-guides-strategies/class-guides/mage-guides/489158-4-0-sfp-harb-leveling-guide.html

Lakshmi -

What would you recommend for someone who doesn't have the Harbinger soul? I haven't dropped the money on that yet but I keep hearing good things about it.

I'll have to try Chloro and Harb. Still like my necro though and not dying (knocks wood).

Jairone gave me a nice build for leveling in the 60's with a mage that is primarily a 61 Warlock. I had bumped mine to 65 but a couple of my builds were nice, but not good for serious solo adventuring. Actually I need to tweak both to make them better DPS to use for dungeons and raids in the future, or any serious group stuff where DPSing the snot of things is required. =)

I will note I have not had issues with an ele/pyro build in the pre-30's for soloing, but have to see what happens to her as she hits the higher levels and see how to macro her out better per the guide Shmi shared. I think 66-67 tend to be the wonky leveling areas if going solo as the zone mobs hit more like trucks or are groupy, but tend to even out better at 68.

I need to determine how to set some good DPS roles for Dungeon/Raid setup that can keep a good DPS and still work with me having issues with jumping around to avoid all the poo and be on mechanics timing. Right now I'm definitely not a great raider in this game. ::chuckles:: I feel like that ad hoc player, but now that life has sorted itself out with less running around (well sort of), I can start digging into this stuff.

Go for 'G' rated. I dare you! =D Your words carry far more weight and power than you will ever know. Never expect people to take them the same way either.

Don't mess with the Mama Bear or her cubs (aka this family). =D

My warlock build works well even at lower levels, although you get the real burst with legendary skills on void barrage and conflux.  Still, conflux normal can be used to make the dots kill stuff faster.  Probably not very good leveling before 67 though.  Prior to  that, I suggest that if you need to be less squishy you combine any dps with just a little chloro for healing.

For those in need of stupid quick burst at 67 for leveling and solo content, I can write up a lock guide.  I use it for dailies, and have killed the quest boss in the Ashenfell daily in the middle of his second untargetable phase with it (which feels so op to skip that phase!)

I have a quest in Gedlo Badlands (L67) for the story where I unfortunately can't seem to do the Warlock burst fast enough and there are like 4+ mobs to deal with. Other than that so far, the Warlock has been great fun for the 65+ areas. Might need to grab someone to help me kill it so I can move the story along. ;) the completionist in me will not want to leave it undone, besides I want to see the next story step. ::chuckles::

To deal with multiples having mortality and your neddras defensive cooldown are great.  You dot up, radiate, run your ground aoe, refresh on a mob if they aren't going to die, then hit mortality.  When you come out, proc your neddras defense, radiate again, and ground aoe.  Should be dead well before you die for story stuff!  (Also how I deal with the gedlo mobs in the storyteller part/final quest outside of just picking one off at a time.)
