DPS Warrior (1.2) - Pre Raid Gear, Build And Rotation

By: Archy

(Updated Wednesday 18th May 2011)

First up a few notes about gearing your Warrior. Nowhere have I found any indication that there’s a hard or soft cap on crit, so go nuts on it, even to the point of stacking dex on occasion as you get 1 crit per dex.
So with that, I came up with a spreadsheet for where to get your Best In Slot (BiS) pre raid gear. The list mainly consists of items with Crit. My formula for “Score” is simply total attack power plus total crit. Even though the game generally gives out points at 2 crit = 1 AP, I don’t think AP is worth that much. Especially for a warrior who derives regenerating power from crits. You'll notice that sadly, some of the best gear for warriors is leather.

In my other guide to levelling a DPS Warrior (pre 1.2 patch), I alluded to Flesh Rip possibly becoming a better DPS tool as it’s off the GCD again now since 1.2. It is now viable and Backhanded Blow makes its return as they’ve improved its scaling. BHB ALSO now triggers Rising Waterfall which is a huge bonus.
This build, macros and rotation will give you the highest single target DPS (that I’ve seen) for a warrior as at 18th May 2011. You will need a ping of at least under 150 in order to get the full benefit out of it. Sadly I sit at around 250 ping, so miss out on a small percentage of DPS, but it still works the best for me. It’s best for boss fights where you can just stand still and DPS, but is also valuable when there’s a bit of moving around as well…. Just harder to hit everything right.

The Rotation
1 & 2 [sli/wind] > 2 [rw] > 3 [bhb, off gcd] > 4 [tearing] > 2 [wind] > 2 [rw] > 5 [off gcd then slashing] > 2 [rw]

You must make sure you have ability queues on and that they are set to long in order to do this. 1 and 2 need to be pressed almost simultaneously, and is where your ping can come into play. The whole point is to get as many moves into the 12 second Strike Like Iron as you can. I miss out on the last RW being modified by SLI because I'm probably too slow, and my ping ain’t the best.
The purpose of separating your abilities that are off the GCD is so that your big move, Rising Waterfall, is always up when you expect it to be because it’s a follow up move.
All credit goes to Spike on my first home Deepstrike for the macros and rotation.

Another thing I wanted to add for DPS warriors that are raiding… Tablets (that drop from rifts and planar mobs) can be very important. They give you extra power regeneration, so as well as doing your normal rotation, you will have enough power to throw in an interrupt or two as well.
Note that my build only has 2 points into Iron Bonds and so doesn’t have shared bonds. If you have another DPS warrior in the raid, get them to go a build with this, and get them to cast Fierce Strike every 12 seconds. Fierce Strike from a single warrior can be of benefit to all warriors with pets.
