Her First Battle

By: Kadiskas

Finally after months of making her armor, Kadiskas was finally ready for the first test of it. Standing in the training arena, she glances to her father from behind her helmet, giving him a slight nod then turns back to her opponents. She had been training with these two for quite some time now and they had become friends. She crouches a bit as she raises her shield and sword. Narrowing her eyes at them she stands at the ready as her father calls out to them to start. One instantly vanishes from sight. Kadi perks up her ears and listens carefully as she still watches the other. Elbereth holds a staff and wears cloth but Kadi knows that she has put protective spells around herself. As she starts to form a plan in her head she hears a scuffle behind her. She quickly glances behind her and sees nothing but side steps to the side anyway putting where she heard the noise to her right and the mage to her left. Turning her eyes to the mage she sees the mages lips moving with slight subtle movements of her free hand. Kadi calls upon her void knight abilities and charges Elbereth to hopefully distract her long enough that she can interrupt the spell. Elbereth doesn't flinch and casts her spell, Kadi expecting this activates her fusion of flesh to avoid some of the spells damage. She then casts unstable reaction while slicing at Elbereth with her sword, but of course the sword comes nowhere near the mage. Noticing movement out of the corner of her eye she quickly casts spell sunder and tries to bowl forward with her shield in an attempt to catch the mage off guard.

Elbereth smiles at her and simply vanishes from sight only to reappear 15 feet from where she was and behind Kadiskas. This surprises Kadi and as she stops to turn to her left to quickly look around she notices a glint of something as she spins and brings her shield up in time to block a dagger to her chest. At this time Rin (short for Rincavornon) appears out of stealth and starts to push the advantage that he has. Kadi tries her best to parry and block most of the attacks but a few nicks get through on her armor. Frowning at the damage to her armor she blocks the rogues attack and pushes forward causing him to become a bit unstable on his feet and with that she slides her sword in the opening and she puts a slice into the belly of his armor. Her father calls to the rogue that he is done. Rincavornon looks at Kadi and winks before he phase shifts out of the practice ring. Now its just Kadi and the mage. Trying to look through her helmet for Elbereth she hears chanting once again and then a burning sensation on her left shoulder. Calling upon her spell sunder again she feels the pain recede but not fully go away. Kadiskas turns more to her left and sees the mage. Narrowing her eyes at Elbereth she places her shield between them and watches as Elbereth starts moving her hands and chanting again. Kadiskas casts rift shield on herself as soon as the spell is cast then rift summons Elbereth to her and it seemed to be in rapid succession she cast after that, spell sunder again and then tempest, knocking the mage to the ground. Elbereth looking like she had just gone through a tornado looked up at Kadi and smiles as she is called out of the ring. Looking around at the practice ring one more time to make sure there were no other enemies she lowers her shield and places her sword in her scabbard.

Looking to her friends they bow to each other and Rin comes up to her and gives her a huge hug. "That was well done Kadi, I don't think you have taken me down that quick before. My strategies must be getting to easy to read." Letting her go he grins down at her the light in his eyes playful as always. Blushing Kadi says thanks and looks to her father. Elbereth watching the whole exchange, smiles and rolls her eyes at Rin then shaking her head walks out of the ring, giving a little wave to Kadiskas. Rin lingers for a bit to watch Kadiskas but she is with her father now. Kadi looks over at him, he gives her a wink and walks away. Kadiskas looks at her father and smiles lightly.

"Rin was easy but Elbereth made me use alot of my energy this time." Her father, Keveras, nodded, "Casters will always be more difficult for you because they can attack from ranged more than rogues or other warriors will." He walks inside the ring and takes a look at her armor, smiling. "Looks like we finally have broken in your armor." Kadi looks down at the damage seeing a dent and sighs "Yeah but this dent will take me a few hours to work out." Her father nodded and then looked up hearing the horns of battle resound through the encampment. Frowning he looks at her and says, "Get back to the tent and stay there." Instantly Kadiskas bristles "I have done well in all the practice sessions that you have put me through let me go with you." Keveras shakes his head as she talked and says "No, I want to keep you away from battle as long as I can." "But.." Kadi begins and her father holds up his hand "No buts, now go." With that he sprints off towards their tent to prepare for another invasion.

Shaking her head, Kadi watches him go and then looks off to where the other soldiers are running. "I'm going." She looks a bit longer at the scene and then nods and starts heading off in the direction. "I will just have to make sure that I am not seen by my father before the battle starts."

Keveras, finally reaching the tent dons his armor quickly and before he even has his sword belt buckled starts to run in the direction of there the invasion is said to come from. In the back of his mind it seems something is wrong but he shakes it off as he prepares mentally for the battle to come. Looking at the row of soldiers that are at his command he notices that they are a bit tense and looks towards the opposite side. He stops suddenly as he sees that its not just an invasion but an army of undead coming at them, and following them is a undead giant general. Taking a deep breath he turns towards his men and tries to ease their nerves. "Looks like they are getting desperate if they are sending in their cannon fodder."

His soldiers gave a tight laugh but they still watched the oncoming army. The uneasy feeling in the back of his head comes back again and he tries to push it back but it seems to not want to go unnoticed. Shaking his head this time he takes one last look around and seeing the general of the elven army ride up on his horse, sword in hand they start to march towards the oncoming enemy.

Meanwhile Kadiskas was able to finally make it to the platoon that her father leads and is able to fall in line as they start to march in. Her hands are getting a bit sweaty as they get closer and closer to the enemy line. As the General of the army motions for them to stop she wonders what she has really gotten herself into. She stands amongst the rest of the soldiers, hearing the creak of leather, the smell of sweat and fear, and then all of a sudden she hears a long and low bellowing sound. It sounded nothing of a horn, looking around she tries to see what and where it came from but with her being more towards the middle of the group she can't really see anything. The sound ends abruptly and then in the distance she sees clouds of dirt beginning to form in the air and finally realizes that the enemy is moving towards them.

The General calls out for the archers and elven mages to move forward. The mages start to cast spells on themselves for protection and the archers ready their bows. The General calls out for the archers to let loose their arrows. With amazement, Kadiskas watches a wall of arrows ascend and then descend on the enemy. 'Wow,' She thought 'That was amazing' She watches the wall again and again as the mages cast fireballs and void bolts. Some mages even send in what seems to be things made up of the elements. Air, earth, fire, and water. 'Odd,' Kadi thinks 'I have never seen such things before.'

Continuing to watch she hears the general call for the archers to fall back and for the soldiers to start to march forwards. With the call to pull out their swords, all Kadi heard was shhiiikkk as all the soldiers around her drew their swords. She pulls her and starts to go dry in the mouth as she sees the enemy army and knowing that she is going into battle for the first time. Upon this sudden realization she now knows that she is defiantly not ready for this. As the call for the soldiers came to move forward Kadi tries to back out of the formation but the soldiers behind her continue forward, forcing her to move with them. Her mouth opens as she finally is able to see the enemy...Undead. UNDEAD!! 'Oh my gosh,' She thinks 'There are so many of them.' Looking around she sees that there are thousands of them. Almost to the point where she can't tell where they begin and end. Closing her mouth and trying to swallow she preps her mind. 'This is just going to be like practice, only I have to kill or be killed.' With that her face sets into an unchanging mask and when given the order to run into battle she was set.

Running into the enemy was as expected. Some of the frontline soldiers were slain on the spot, running into spears, swords, polearms. Some even being charred to death from the spellcasters on the undead side. Kadiskas seeing her first enemy and being on her first battlefield, froze, looking around at the soldiers that were getting killed and falling to the ground, others around her were putting up a fight till there were to many that the solider fell to the ground. Hearing the screams and hollers her, she almost ran till she turned and saw an undead grinning at her.

The undead didn't have a lower jaw but is stood there sword in one hand and a dagger in another. Glancing around she sees all the other soldiers busy with their own undead. She watches one solider take the head off an undead and bones and all fall to the ground. Nodding to herself she looks back at the undead facing her and charges forward. The warrior in her, blocks most of the things that the undead tries on her till another undead joined in the fight and then her paladin training kicks in. She blocks, casts a healing spell on herself, parries a jab to her side from the polearm that the 2nd undead is using and dodges the sword thrust from the 1st one.

Moving around as best she can while not getting cut or wounded from the two undead she continues to be put on the defensive till the 1st undead gets his head lopped off. Kadiskas watching the 2nd one saw the 1st fall and took her chance and placed her sheild between her and it and used her paladin charge to get close to it and took its head off with her sword. Turning to thank the solider she turned to look upon Rin, looking down at her.

Her eyes open in shock as she looks at him. "Oh my gosh Rin, Please don't tell my father I'm here." Looking around as if there were a rock for her to crawl under she hears him say "Its to late now for you to turn back, you are in the middle of all this." Kadiskas looks back at Rin, his face all serious now from when it was in the practice ring "Stay by me." Giving her head a slight shake he motions for Kadiskas to follow him. They move around the rest of the battlefield fighting where undead came into contact with them. Her blocking and parrying worked well with his quick strikes and wisdom of close combat put a quick end to any enemy they encountered. While they were fighting off three undead a shadow seemed to cast over them. They finished off the three and turned to see what had made the shadow and came face to face with the undead general of the army. Kadiskas's eyes opened in shock as she looked up at the behemoth that looked as if patches of skin where sewn together to make this monstrous thing. She quickly looked around for Rin and realized he had vanished.

Something tugged behind her and she quickly glanced back and saw her father, glaring at her. Kadiskas opened her mouth to say something but then thought better of it and quickly shut it. Keveras, had been watching his daughter and Rin move through the battlefield. It made him proud but scared at the same time, had Rin not been there what would have become of her. Feeling her father pull her back she allowed him to get in front of her and then shook her head defiantly and stepped to his side. "We will take this thing on together father." Glancing out of the corner of her helmet at her father she sees him nod grimly.

The behemoth looked down at them grinning, a necklace of heads dangling from its neck and carrying in one of the huge hands a crude club made from a tree that it had uprooted. It bellowed down at them and Kadi knew the noise she had heard at the beginning of the battle was this thing yelling out to its troops. It stopped and swung its great club. Keveras shot out an arm towards Kadiskas and knocked her down as he dropped as well. The club coming close to there their heads would have been had they stayed standing. In and instant Keveras was up on his feet and heading towards the Giant. Kadiskas seeing him run there looked up from the ground and watched the Giant try swinging at her father, she also saw Rin had shown up and was standing behind the Giants legs.

Kadi looked horrified at the Giant as her father kept it busy from noticing Rin. Yelling once as the club came close to her father but he moved quickly to the side and the giant seemed to hit its own leg. Yelling at the pain that it just did to itself seemed to infuriate it even more. Growling he went to try and catch Keveras in its free hand but again he was to slow to capture the quick thing that kept taunting it. Rin had also started to attack its legs with quick, lightning strokes. His daggers working fast causing the Giant to have numerous cuts. Kadiskas watched for awhile.

In this short time she had noticed that five or six of the undead had shown up. She got a hold of herself again and jumped up and did her Judgment ability. The undead looked her way and saw her with her pidly shield and sword and started towards her. Meanwhile Keveras had stood there waiting for the giant to swing its club and move to its side, the giant moved with him, ignoring the little thing at its feet. It took a step forward and swung its club down at the puny thing with the shield and it hit solid ground. Lifting its club up it saw that the puny thing had moved to the side again. Frowning the Giant swung the club to where the puny thing was but it moved again. Getting mad at this the Giant felt something crawling up its leg. It shook its leg as it looked for the puny thing as it called out to him again. He couldn't understand the words but it was getting his attention.

Keveras, moving around to the side of the Giant all the time was trying to buy Rin time to climb up on the monster. Yelling out at the ugly thing again he saw the club rise and as it descended he had moved again to the side. The Giant was getting even more mad with each attempt to smash him so he kept it up. Rin had reached the Giants back at this time. Kadiskas finally, taken down two of the five turned quick and saw that the Giant realized it too as it tried with its free hand to reach Rin. Kadiskas rushed the remaining undead she was facing and cast impassable guard then did her sweeping strike on the remaining 3, taking their heads off. She then turned towards the Giant and like her father ran to its legs to distract it from Rin. The Giant, not accustomed to not having things moving while it was trying to kill them, bellowed out again as it kept getting cuts from the puny things little stick and the one crawling on him. Leaving the one on his back alone he moved one leg out to kicked at the one of the ones on the ground. He saw the one of the ones that was on the ground go flying.

Kadiskas had tried to move but wasn't fast enough. Next thing she realized was that she was flying through the air and landed on the ground, the air knocked out of her. Trying to catch her breath she looked up and saw that Rin had reached the Giants head and the Giant trying to get him off. Her father was continuing to work the other leg while Rin, sitting between the Giants shoulder blades, raised his sword and with a huge effort brought it down where the neck met the spine. The Giant's mouth formed an O as it felt the sword. The Giant tried to pick the little thing off but it had jumped down to the ground. With its life blood running down its back it dropped the club and with a final loud groan it fell face first to the dirt. It shook the ground as it landed and knocked everyone with a 20 foot radius off their feet.

A small cheer went up as the soliders saw what had fallen and continued to cut down what was left of the enemy. Rin went to retrieve his sword from the neck of the fallen Giant and cleaned it off with a cloth that was tucked into his belt. Grinning at Kadi, his normal at ease manner back he blew her a kiss and vanished again to kill what remaining undead where around. Sheathing his sword, Keveras walked over to where Kadiskas was. He knelt down "Are you ok?" Looking her over she flinched as he came to her leg "Yes Father, I don't think anything is broken just bruised." Nodding, Keveras went to place his hands under her to lift her up when he stiffened.

He looked down at his side and noticed an arrow sticking out of it. Falling to his side, his eyes rolled up in his head and his breathing became shallow. Kadiskas called out to him and crawled towards him. "Father...FATHER!!" His eyes opened to slits and he looked up at Kadiskas. She looked at the arrow and saw that it had been buried deep, almost half the shaft was embedded. She went to touch it and saw him tense up. "No Kadiskas, leave it alone." His voice was so soft that she had to take her helmet off to hear him over the sounds of battle. "Its in to deep that if you try to remove it or move me, I will lose even more blood." Keveras eyes closed again as he finished "Just let me lie here till we can get a healer."

Kadiskas looked around for anyone near, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Just hold on father, Please just hold on." With an attempt she tried to stand, she couldn't put much pressure on her left leg and fell when she did but she kept trying to stand. When she did finally manage to stand she screamed out for a healer. Taking a few tentative steps, for she did not want to get to far away from her father she screamed out again. A mage with black robes ran up to her "Are you alright?" Her face pale and her eyes seemed to look like frost, with a black hood over her hair but Kadi could see frost looking wisps of hair come out as she ran her hands over Kadiskas.

Kadi pushed her hands away and motioned towards her father. "He's hurt, an arrow is in his side. You have to help him." Moving stiffly towards her father, the mage had sat down beside him. "My name is Zakara, captain. I'm going to look you over to, so if there is any pain just tell me." Zakara moved her hands over him trying to ease the pain from his body before she were to perform any healing on him. A few minutes goes by and Kadiskas is getting impatient. "Why are you taking so long?" Her voice breaking over the stress of her father being injured. Zakara looks up, her frost eyes looking cold. "You will have patience, for I need to make sure that I will not harm anything if I remove this arrow." "If?! what do you mean if you remove the arrow, you have to remove the arrow." Kadiskas says frantically, at this time the fighting had ended and a few soldiers had come to look over the scene. Rin had come back and tries to place a hand on her shoulder but she shakes it off as she looks down at her father, his breathing becoming more and more shallow.

Tears still streaming freely down her face she sees her father inhale deeply and open his eyes to look for her. "Kadi," He whispers "I'm right here father." She takes his hand as he turns to her voice.

"Oh Kadi, they are so beautiful." he softly says "They are so beautiful."

Kadiskas, looks around to see what her father sees but then looks back down to him. "What is father? I don't see what you are looking at." Her father seems to recognize that in his slowing mind. "The angels, Kadi. They are here and they are waiting to take me with them."

"No.....no father," Kadiskas says softly but cracks "They can't take you, you have to stay here with me and continue teaching me things." Zakara had finished looking at the arrow and nods saying to Kadiskas "Your father has lost alot of blood and I cannot take this arrow out or he will pass even faster."

Kadiskas forgetting that the mage was there turns on her and screams "Why can't you take it out?!! Your supposed to be a healer. Your supposed to be able to take things like this and heal the wounded. Why can't you do that with him?!" Zakara, looking apologetic, looks at Kadiskas and shakes her head "There is nothing I can do, I have tried to heal what damage has been done inside but it wouldn't help if I were to remove the arrow completely." With that the mage stands and turns "I'm sorry, Kadiskas, I really am." Zakara then walks off and starts to help other wounded.

Kadiskas watches her go, she can feel her anger growing but her father groans and she looks back down at him, looking between the arrow in his side to his face, not knowing what to do.

Keveras looks at his daughter and smiles wanly, giving his last ounce of strength to squeeze her hand and says gently, "Kadi, Its ok. I am proud of you and what you have become. I have taught you all that I can and now you have start learning things on your own." Bawling Kadiskas nods "But father, I don't know what I will do without you." Her father coughs and she wipes his mouth of the blood coming out and he says "You will do what you always have done as a warrior. You will adapt and survive. Remember the warrior that adapts the easiest to the unexpected is the warrior who will live the longest."

It seemed to take the last of his energy to pass that onto her and he laid his head back down and with his last breath says "I love you Kadi, with all my heart, I love you." As the breath exits his body he closes his eyes and lays still. Kadiskas looks at her father and starts to cry even more, bawling as she lays her head down on his chest and whispers through the tears "I love you too Father."

(I will say this, this part of my char's Lore was hard for me to post. As you can see that in the end she loses someone she loves and I have to admit I held onto this piece for a long time before I thought that this is what needs to happen. It is still hard for me to have this posted b/c he seemed to only play a small part in my char's lore but when I did RP in the game I said that she had lost her father at an early age. And for an elf that is really early. She was only a teenager when this happened, not quite an adult (by human terms, not elven). I know that if I didn't want this to happen I didn't have to post it but if you have read my previous ones I had to have something happen like this. Thank you all for reading my previous ones and I will try to continue to post more but hopefully I won't have writer's block. :-) Ty again.)
