Will spying be a huge issue?

Basically the title. Someone joins the guild of an opposing faction and spies on them for his own guild/faction. From what I understand, this happens quite a bit in games like EVE, where spying is seen as just another part of the game. Will it be a big thing in TESO as well?

I can't say for certain how big of an issue it will be. All I can say is it's probably something that will happen, but I know I would never trust a spy, even though they were on our side. Without undeniable proof, there isn't much anyone can do however.

I remember in DAoC cross-realming was a huge no-no. However, except for the PvP servers, cross-realming in WoW isn't a big deal. I think it also depends on how Zenimax takes it. If they want to punish spies, it will most likely be a small problem. But if they don't care, it will most likely be something we have to watch out for.

I was going to say "no, you can't have different faction characters in the same campaign" but you could do it with multiple accounts. Of course with multiple accounts you could do things like kill trading or afking on siege engines if you wanted to help your own faction.

When thinking of this the other day I forgot about their multiple campaigns going at once and chosing.  I just haven't really looked into how it all works.  I know any character you make in any alliance can be in the same guild and talking to each other.  I did state that we are doing Ebonhart Pact so if you want to play with the family that is where you need to be, but it sure doesn't stop you from doing other things.  I'm thinking with the multi-campaign thing and how they are really programming things to recognize what and where you character has done, it wouldn't be hard to note where you put your Ebonhart Pact toon in Cyrodiil and keep a non-Ebonhart toon from doing the same campaign.

That being said, I hope no one in this family plays other alliances just to be a spy.  I rather we find ways to beat the enemy as our Ebonhart selves rather than on the sly popping on other alliances in the same campaign to get faster info.  That takes all the fun out of it in my opinion.

Not even the NSA can stop spies, though they do seem to be giving it a good try.

I hadn't thought of spies.  I am kind of put off by the ability to join up to five guilds, and I'm taking this to mean social groups, not in-game professional guilds.

I have been in too many guilds where less than honest or disgruntled guildies wipe out the guild vault and run.  I myself would feel like a cheat if I used mats from one guild vault to fulfill a quest requirement or workorder for a different guild to which I also belong.

Ezsme, every guild has a bank so you can be in five and if you have access to the bank you can put in and take out whatever you want in any of them.  Guild banks have always had to be one of an honor system because of this.  Some games have better controls than others, like multiple tabs that can each have different access, but ESO is one huge list of stuff.

As for spies, if you put an EP toon into campaign A, you cannot also put your AD or DC allied toon in the same campaign.  So there is no way to physically spy that way unless you spend the money for multiple accounts.  Now via the multiguild chat - you can see all guilds you belong to at all times - and whatever goes in voice chat, you might be able to pick up info and pass it on.  Again we are back to an honor system and not everyone has a good honor system.

Look at history, we've had spies for wars for thousands of years.  Why expect a game to be any different? It's played by humans.  =)

In warhammer I invited my enemies to the fight. No spies needed. In a world this vast even if they knew where you were going it would take their troops a while to get there.

heck in rift you flat out broadcasted 2 days in advance to the other side that we would be there and they were free to try their luck or to get out of our way. Never really had any delays in those events but then seeing 60+ people come over a hill in one group is kinda scary:)

As someone who played EveOnline for three years, spying was always a huge issue with all the realtime fleet position and activity data that could be revealed to the wrong people.  I opted for a smallish but dedicated corporation rather than a large one with members coming and leaving all the time.   Our alliance had a distributed command structure.  Basically, this meant general goals were given to the corp battle leaders with very little channel crosstalk except among the coordinators.  A legendary scandal in Eve when I was playing was when a major alliance got taken down by a spy (Goons?) that made it all the way into the leadership.  At a critical point he stripped the banks and didn't pay some fee that caused the alliance to decertify losing all territories and even their name, as someone claimed it immediately to prevent them from retaking it.  I think the best way to protect against that is to have a system where you have people around you that you can trust....maybe why I ended applying to this guild  :)

All I can say is that someone who would do something as low as the ones in EVE doesnt warrant much respect or honor. They have no honor and will eventually get what is coming to them.  Griefers will always be a part of the gaming world. These low lifes thrive on causing problems.  So they way you handle them is to make sure they never get into a leadership position in the first place.  Gaiscioch is made up of people with honor and integrity.  There may be bad apples occassionally, but you know they never seem to get to a leadership position.  They don't want to extend that much effort.

IMHO
