After action report of the Hel Ra and AA run - ideas, suggestions and other things 9/20

Not even sure where to start it was a  blast last night and I can tell we are definitely getting better.

Still need to work on interrupts on the right side of hel ra 

The whirlwind dance is improving but more foot work is needed.

Calling out I am dead and who is rezzing still needs work.

Last night was the first time for most of us to see AA - I actually think we did rather well.

Once again it is going to be learning the dance moves for this dungeon, I see no reason we should not be able to do this.

Ok everyone add you ideas and suggestions.

Hel Ra interrupts:  I've said it before, I'll say it again.  Get into melee.  It not only gives you the bash option, but it lets everyone else know that you are on that mob to interrupt.  If we leave mobs free, we will wipe.

Notes from AA:

The Storm Atronach boss does a very high amount of damage, and where it dies faster with everyone on dps, a single magicka based dps throwing a few off heals may be very helpful.  I did this last night, and even then the raid health came very low on the big channeled aoe.

The Stone Atronach boss seemed to have similar issues with people taking a lot of damage, but this seemed more due to people standing in his AOE.  Calls to move are great, but if the AOE is down, waiting on a call is probably more detrimental than just moving.  Knowing the loop, and how we are just moving out of each AOE in a big circle around the boss should solve much of the healer mana issue there (aka, give them a little time for mana regen.)  As long as people actively move in the pattern, this fight will likely go much smoother.

The Mage:  It seems like the dps requirement is a little higher than the other bosses faced, in combination with some strong rng on the tank and mines.  That aside, it was very cool to see!  Not sure if we have anything to add that little extra bit of stamina for the tank, but a little practice and some more work on stats will likely see the primary group down this boss soon!  :D

Hel Ra -

I don't know if it would be help or hindrance if we were to give some form of location when we are down and needing ress - something short and sweet "Ash down, side of boss away from wall" or "Cat down right behind dps" or (heaven forbid) "JJ down at the butthead's feet." In Hel Ra, we seemed to be losing people here and there so a single clarifier like that would not bog down the channel. In AA we were going down in waves, so it would obviously not be a good suggestion until we are a little better at staying on our feet.

Warrior - oi. I usually rely on my peripheral vision to tell me when to react to aoe. That being said, between the ultimates and positive area effects, I completely missed one of his last cleaves and I, and a good chunk of the raid, were taken down. I feel that our reaction time to aoe needs to be an area we put work into, myself included.

AA -

How cool was that?!

I completely agree with Jairone on the stone atronach - we all knew we were rotating left but I didn't catch anyone saying how fast, how far, or even why. That being said, after seeing the AOE, I think we can safely say we understand that mechanic and can make it work, now.

The Mage and tank stamina - I was nailing JJ with my channeling rune for magicka and shards for stamina as often as he could take them. This was one of those fights where I had virtually no dps to offer because of how hard those axes were hitting, and each time I went down, it was because I was moving out of position to avoid the large, growing aoe circles and was literally being pushed into the axes. How do we avoid those?

Circles you group with one other person, or maybe two.  Basically, people have to shift, but try to keep on points if possible.  So, if you are by the bubble and move, and need to go two spaces, the people nearby also need to react.  Those bubbles are big!  So, if you are moving two, the person who is one over needs to as well.  This becomes messy, especially due to the other expanding bubbles that can interfere with this.  When we have two bubbles bordering each other, people will have to either move away or in toward melee range.  You can run behind the tank if needed, the cleave range (if it exists) of those axes is very small (I did this while rezzing somebody to avoid a circle.)  As long as they stay taunted, nobody should die to them prior to the tank (which was an issue due to the mines and constant block requirements, of course.)  Still, the closer in, the better.  You don't want to be having issues with losing dps, or being way out when the slam comes!
The problem is that if everyone clusters the chain lightning hits many people, and starts becoming an issue.  More dps will help minimize the bubbles, and the time those axes are beating on the tank.  So spacing is something everyone needs to watch and work on.  Even then, the chain lightning is far less an issue than dying due to moving over mines or into the area of the axes.  (It is about 3-5k, judging from my health on the fight.  The mines are around 14k.  The axes... I took a few hits blocking, but they are deadly if not blocked, period.)


That last attempt when we hit the second phase I noticed healers were down, so I was spamming heals to try for the attempt.  Went full oom, but until then was doing decently at keeping people up.  If we had a full crew, that would have been an easy win... or so I would believe.

Now, if only I could block and heal at the same time... something like hiding behind a shield while muttering a prayer...
