What do you do with your "trash"?

After you sheath your weapon when you walk into town, after you mill through your spoils and don any item that is a little more shinier than what you're wearing; where does everything else go?

Guild Store, Zone chat, the appropriate "breaking table" or hocking them at the nearest vendor?

For me, I've bounced back and forth between Deconstructing and Vending the white & green items that don't fall into the professions I'm leveling, set and blue-and-above items go to Guild Store at list price.

I'm curious what everyone else does.

I'm at the point where all my crafting skill lines (except the extremely slow to level enchanting) are maxed.  I have stacks of green upgrade materials anymore.

Thus I do one of two things:

1.  Most of the loot gets sold.  Eventually I will use the gold for something!

2.  Some of the loot, especially intricate items, is offered to other people in guild.  I send an email with some items for them to deconstruct for their crafting use.  I don't link a ton of items, just ask if somebody would like some, or randomly select a low level person to get a gift package.

If something is rarer, and might be nice for somebody, I ask if anybody wants it before I do the above (See stuff like VR10+ drops of set items, and the like.)

I'm still at the point that if it is other than white I break it down... purple items I will advertise in guild chat to see if anyone can actually wield or wear - if so then I give it away. At this point I'm not getting too many purples yet (just lvl 43 on highest character)  Of course if I can use - then I do.   Glyphs I can't use all go in the guild bank since I don't do anything with enchanting and I know there are people that can break them down for exp.

All whites I sell for the coin - working on buying anther horse for my new alt.

My highest character is only level 25, because of this I tend not to put things in the guild bank or store - I always feel like it'd just be taking up valuable bank/store space.

I do the following:

- Anything with a trait that I need to research goes on my research mule

- Anything else gets broken down because I'm still levelling everything

- Anything that can't be broken down gets sold to the merchant

I usually put items I make in the guild bank or store rather than the drops I get.

I'm raising all 3 major crafts on my main so Purples always get deconned for upgrade mats.

Blues either get deconned or vendored depending on how much of a rush I am in and how my bag space is looking.

Greens/Whites usually get vendored but sometimes I'll decon them if I'm at a station and the mood strikes me.

I have two characters... my Main is my Templar, and I break down every piece of gear. All enchanting mats go to my friendly neighborhood enchanter to pay for enchants I will get at vr12. I only offer rare items in guild and only one time. I can always use the mats for filling orders in the marketplace.

On my nightblade I sell everything except the quality runes... the circle ones. The rest is for the vendor if I am not wearing it. I don't make items for alts unless it is a set item and that I will do on every 10th level. I made a set at 10 and 20.. when it gets to 30 I will make a new set.

Research Mule . . . if I had one left.

I'm bad at MMO but here's what I do (My highest is 28 . . . there are purple things?)

I'm playing 4 alts DK, Sorc, NB, and Templar one that was a Mule.

I have a alchemy mule, a rune/siege and trophy mule (what exactly are those for), a provisioning mule and a Big 3 (Cloth ,BS, and Wood)  mule.

I try to keep my bank empty (but my research items are taking up space and now a pile of glyphs I made to see if I could raise enchanting but also want to keep because I don't repair and when I craft a new set of armor it would be nice if it had some beneficial side effect)

So I get to town

1. Sell those bits that come off the monsters and any potions or food items I picked up that I don't see a need for

2. Check weapons and armor for something better then equip.

3. Drop Mats in bank then drop then as much gear in bank

--- > (that summarises a quick run) return to adventure if in middle or group

4. Cycle through storage alts to pull things out of bank.

5. Drop rest of equipment in bank.

6. Crafters (Big 3) get to work researching and deconing anything that doesn't have a discovered property and is not a set.

7. Crafters (Big 3) drop mats in bank.

I pile all the enchanting, alchemy and provisioning until I'm running out of space on alts then when I feel inspired and nobody is on I run and raise those. (It seems every other time I have this happening I'm sending things out to requests on the marketplace mostly because I don't feel like crafting)

Distractions:

1. My Aldmeri mules bank is in a room full of chests and cabinets and backpacks and sacks. Nearly all my racial motif books have come from that room harvesting that room every time I switch a mule puts me in a little bit of a loop I try to avoid it but it's sooo tempting.

2. Advice was given to give all alts hirelings, I did that to some and that also interrupts the cycle.

Depends on the item, if it has any trait at all except the one that increases merchant value I will use the bank to trade it to the person I have crafting that type of item, if it has no trait I typically vendor it.

Jewelry if I can't use it or it is below my level I vendor

Consumables I generally vendor except healing

raw mats. trait mats, style mats I bank

I'm leveling all crafts on my main, which is a Templar currently at VR1. Therefore I deconstruct everything that can be broken down and I expect that even after maxing the professions I'll continue to deconstruct anything that may yield improvement materials. White items will be sold.

So when I get to town I:

  • Sell off trophies, potions I won't use, green recipes I know, and miscellaneous items to vendors for a little bit of gold
  • Deconstruct blacksmith, clothier, woodworker, and enchanter items
  • Go to the bank and go through the muling process to clear my inventory. I have an army of mules, each for specific types of items.
  • On occasion I'll sell motifs in zone chat and list extra blue recipes on the market.

Research, deconstruction are my main two objectives with my so called trash.   Actual trash I tend to sell away, extra potions I am not using, like health and stamina, and actual trash drops like essences and daedra husks, I will vendor for quick cash.

As far as Items go, if its ornate, and the price is worth it, usually 80g+, then I vendor it, otherwise, I decon all the items i can for inspiration, and crafting materials.  Even whites will give me materials, like ore and stuff I don't have to gather as well as racials and trait materials.  The colored items tend to give me tempers, so I do like breakign those down.  I haven't gotten many purples, but I do break those down.

Sometimes I do get a weapon that I know a guildie or friend might use, I do offer those up, these are more often set items.  Sometimes I offer them straight up, sometimes I toss them on the guild store for a small price just to earn some gold.  I never overcharge, I usually put it up reasonably cheap.   Accessories like rings and necklaces, If its blue or better, I tend to toss up for sell, especially if I am not going to use it, or I vendor the white and green ones.

Basically I see items as crafting materials, even the ornate ones, but I do often sell those if they are at 150% and giving me a reasonable chunk of change.    For me this means I never have to buy a racial item again, so it saves me gold on those.   I am now at full stacks of 100, so I am now starting to just delete the extras racial materials.  I also get lots of extra materials I don't have to gather, which then saves me time of having to just go gathering instead of getting to push a few quests.   Now if I only had extra bank slots so I can seriously stock pile up raw ingredients instead of just the tempers, racials, and trait items.

Just a gentle reminder - don't put actual "trash" in the guild bank. - No really - don't.  I mean since we are speaking about what to do with our ... trash.   I know what might be one man's trash might be another man's treasure and that is the real discussion here but...

I was just going through the guild bank and cleaning up a bit when I found < 2 Empty Wine Bottles> in the vault.   They are labeled as "Trash" and are worth 0 coin.    They are really "trash" no matter who you are.

I don't mind organizing and cleaning up the guild banks - but to actually place real "trash" in them - to put it in the words of the great Mike Ditka....

C'mon Man

Thanks :)

Always vendor ornate.

I flop between decon of enchantments and guild store sales to keep some cash flow in for repairs and fund my altaholism.  :)

I work in Blacksmithing, Clothing and Woodworking, so I pretty much hang on to anything in those categories that I can use for research.  I do use the crafting research add-ons so it's easy to tell whether it's useful for research.   If it's not useful for research, but still in the Blacksmith, Clothing & Woodworking categories, I deconstruct the item.

When I do come across a nice set piece, however, I generally put that in the Guild Bank.

For stuff outside of those crafting professions, like glyphs and such, I deconstruct those and then generally put the sub-glyphs in the Guild Bank.

I break down most of the stuff I get even if I'm not leveling the profession "now" I may want it later.  I try to save set pieces for alts but man there's just a lack of bank/bag space so I list a few things.

At level 28 I'm still very much a pack rat, which usually leads me to having full bags and a full bank. I *want* to level up my crafting skills, very much, but it seems to take SO long! And I'm just a sucker for adventure ;) I'd rather be out notching the blades on my daggers than smithing new ones.

Anyway, I also love to cook, so I tend to keep Provisioning mats in my bank, and then other crafting mats I like to put in the guild bank (only been in one other guild so far) BUT only if there are already stacks of that material there. I've noticed there's a glitch where things aren't auto-stacking in the GB and if I can't shuffle them around (lack of access, understandable for a newbie) I try to limit that.

If I have room in my bags to Deconstruct I almost always do that, though I hang on to rare pieces I can't use. Everything else (or if there's no more room) I vendor.

If you are not an enchanter, sell your glyphs. I am in the trading guild Merchants Bazaar and regularly get 200-300g each for my level 50+ glyphs.

So, I haven't focused much on anything but provisioning.  I see alot of talk of 'deconstructing' and such.  Is there a good guide on the basics of 'what/how/why' to crafting?  I know a tiny bit about researching, but only enough to go to a crafting area and start it, not how to do anything after.  I haven't made a single thing except food/drink, so maybe I should start thinking about such stuff.  So far, I have just sold most everything not nailed down, except purples and the 0gp stones that I find in chests and barrels (are these the racial things? like starmetal?).  The books that I find, I just give away to guildies.  While I don't have a ton of cash flowing in, I have enough not to worry about repairs, horses, and so forth, so I haven't ever put anything for sale in the guild store.  I'd rather just throw it in the guild bank.

I figured out pretty quickly that my best hope for making gold is selling harvested items; so I made a series of Argonian helpers to hold materials for me:

- Keeper-of-Wood

- Keeper-of-Food

- Keeper-of-Glyphs

- Keeper-of-Cloth

- Keeper-of-Potions (just killed this one off and dumped all my potion makings as I lost interest).

For now, I'm simply stockpiling so that I can make a mad run on the crafts I'm interested in (woodcrafting primary, clothing secondary, enchanting as runes allow). The food items I'm selling in bulk and that seems to be a fairly good way to make gold (it's keeping me upgraded, which I couldn't manage before).

This also gets me around the horribad expense of bank upgrades. (Those prices... make me sad. I'll likely never get beyond 80 slots.)

If it ain't fixed, break it until it is.

Ekadzati, this is a GREAT idea! I've had "mule" alts in other games, but I think this is the best use of it I've seen.

If your "helpers" are holding mats for you, what do you actually keep in your bank?

Yeah, I forgot about the true "trash" items in the game so I could have worded it better but it looks like the point was understood :)

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I didn't see this and reply to it in ... 2014. =/ I've been away (quite a while, actually) pinning life to the mat.

As for my primary bank - it holds items I'm currently storing for use, quests, or crafting, along with collectibles that I know I'll be using on a regular basis (i.e., disguises, costumes, etc).

Well, when I still played. I haven't been in ESO for a time now.

If it ain't fixed, break it until it is.
