Hail all.. In my years of mmo-rpg gaming I not role-played much at all, though I do attempt to every now and then. Can basically call me an rp rookie willing to learn some basics.

With that said, I wanted to attempt a background story for my main at least. It may be a bit from left-field so any input on the idea would be appreciated.

Since I do not know much of the lore of Elder Scrolls universe that well, I was thinking of a marriage between it and a time period and region I have a fondness of. That of 15th century Eastern Europe, specifically Wallachia, Hungary and their battles against the Turkish armies. The main character I am looking at would be named after Janos Hunyadi who was a regent of Hungary and one of the strongest military generals of that time. Borrowing from the "Gor" and "John Carter of Mars" book series, I came up with a possible scenario.

 ...

After the battle of Varna we find Janos riding alone in a stretch of woods deep in thought over the lives lost. Looking to his left, he sees, a glowing soul gem. Not sure what it was he picked it up for a closer look. Suddenly a funnel of light surrounds and lifts him off the ground, then disappears. Laying on the cold rocky ground, he starts to came to, shaking off the falling snow, and begins to take in his new surroundings. Suddenly, he was struck from behind, falling unconscious yet again. He finally wakes up in a cold cell with nothing but rags to wear...

A little too far out there? or possibly feasible? Badly written? .. Any input good or bad is welcome. :)

And your name isn't Tarl Cabot and you weren't out camping? :P

All kidding aside, I have been researching the lore myself and I haven't found any stories similar to the Gorean theme of an earthling being transported to Tamriel.   Personally though, if I was creating a character based on a historical figure, I would make the person born of that land then rework the figure's story around to fit the genre. With little I know of ESO lore, this will be much easier to do than say in a Gorean RP setting with Norman's narrow minded focus in terms of Gorean culture and norms.

But of course like Tuz said, if you love your story - own it, embrace it and make it yours!

Thanks for the tips. Was a rough draft on how to bring a historical figure to life in Tameriel. Looking into it, going the route of using a historical person as influence for a character born here would work considering the source isn't too far off the Breton/Nord/Imperial.

lol on Tarl Cabot.. :) The only thing Gorean I am willing to use is the teleport thing, which a few tales from the 40's and 50's as well. The Gorean culture would not be close to a PG rating imho.

Tuz, thanks for the heads up on those videos. I actually stumbled into them a couple days ago. Played through both seasons of them. Very interesting, and showed how much deeper the ES universe was compared to most mmo-rpgs I have been involved in.

Hail Hawkee,

Another thing to consider is to let the character speak to you of his story as you first make him on screen.  Where did he get that scar or tattoo?  Does his build, hair, etc suggest a twist to you?  Find his voice, his style and be aware of any indication that you are trying to force it to fit a preconceived story written by another.  My biggest flops I made that mistake, my most cherished chars and memories often ended up when they took the inspiration and ran with it ... like my 'storage' character who became a title-holder and legend in her own right while dragging my partner's character clear across the world to deliver a simple gift.  Those are the characters and memories you will cherish.  Most of all, don't forget to have fun and experiment!

YW...Tarl!  Now the Dunmer are an interesting group.  You might want to research them further for RP story ideas.

The Lore is fab, very Game of Thronish with elves!  And they also have dragons!
