This post is to help those who are interested in joining a group for an rpg campaign.
I've run Pathfinder via roll20.net in the past, with voice augmented over Google Hangouts (onboard roll20 kept giving our group issues.)
I went to the sidelines due to lack of players since some of them moved/new work schedules, ect. I would love to get a solid group together if people wanted a group.
ya I have an account on roll2o but havent used it yet. Ya that would be awesome if we could get a group together.
Im interest in join in on this, I havent played in ages but i can basically just read whatever rulebook that would be used
Its been a long time since i've done any role playing.
I've often wondered why some one hasn't made a virtual table top for a forum setting and integrated a never winter type dice roll program. Some of the reasons I have found that people tend to take a step back from the mention of D&D is because of the rule books and the ability to connect with one another due to busy schedules. There is a number of role players out there that don't play D&D because of those reasons. If you had a forum, with a built in system like Never Winter, that does all the rules and dice rolls for you, with a virtual table top that the GM can control with fog of war ect, I would think that would truly get a huge following. Granted the game progression would be very slow but still I would think it would be a blast.
I know that's not what your talking about doing here but just thought I would throw it out there considering D&D and virtual table tops was mentioned.
I know that ,y husband (Radiologikal) has been looking for a group. He'd like to try something Lovecraftian or a survival horror campaign, but he'd up for joining anything.
At the end of 2012, and throughout 2013, we actually had 2 groups going on roll20 playing some Pathfinder. They were going well until the tail end of 2013, and completely died with the Christmas break. I tried to form a group myself, but ended up having to close it due to gaining employment. As far as I know, there has been nothing since January 2014. At least, that was when the final post in the "Tabletop RPGs" subforum of this forum was made (at the messageboard home when clicking on The Tavern link at the top of gaiscioch.com, scroll all the way to the end and you will find it).
I would love to be able to get back into doing this again, as I had fun for the most part in the games we had with the family. I tried many times throughout last year to join a fun game, but that failed. My last game was November 7, 2014, on roll20.net. I miss playing some tabletop.
woops I guess I should have started this topic in that part of the forums. My bad....
ya it would be nice to have a kind forum styled roleplaying d&d game. I've been trying some different mud(multiple user dungeon) text based games. Though I would prefer being able to interact with the players using skype or google. I've heard good things about fantasy Grounds and roll20.
I have some experience as a DM, though its been a long time. Though It sounds like some of you have a lot more experience.
Also I would be available most days after I get home from class. Depending on homework I would be available from 12:30 to 4:30 monday-friday
Don't worry to much about it. I am sure this thread would have gone unnoticed if it had been placed in that forum. Then again, it may not have.
I haven't logged into raidcall since the beginning of 2014. We used to have a tabletop rpg channel in the Gaiscioch raidcall, but I think it may have been removed. Does Gaiscioch even still use raidcall?
If people want a game I have no issue running if we can get a time available for this.
When would people be available?
I usually run PFS - so legal table is 4-6. With a completely unlocked roll20 account to set up GM type stuffs.
It sounds like we may have a second GM as well.
A message board game may also help as well, I've not done them before so would at least want to be a player for one before running.

I have basically sworn off Pathfinder due to my experiences with multiple different players over the whole of 2014, but I would give it another chance for a group made up of Gaiscioch. As for days when I would be available: I am off Tuesdays and Wednesdays, unavailable Thursdays and Saturdays, and available after 730pm eastern US time the other 3 days, with an ending time around 1130pm eastern US time.
https://app.roll20.net/users/15384/oreo <-- my roll20 account
If you guys were planning on doing D&D 5ed (Next) I would be interested. That is depending on the time/day.
I would be willing to learn 5ed or any other system,as long as i get to play. I could also re arrange my schedule to be able to participate. So in other words lets game on people :D
I would personally prefer 5th edition, but would give Pathfinder another go with a Gaiscioch group. But my first choice would be 5th edition D&D. Playing again would give me the push to continue working on my campaign world.
Been DMing a group of friends in 5ed Forgotten Realms since it came out in the summer. So that is primarily where my knowledge is, but I am willing to learn something new ^_^
So would it be a 5-6 player group?
here is my roll20 Id https://app.roll20.net/users/760739/jeremy-r
also If you use a different virtual tabletop like fantasy grounds, let me know.
I'm super excited.
I'd enjoy some gaming. It's been a long time since I've been able to play in a regular game. I've been running a campaign for my family on the 3.5e rules since we have a lot of those books already, and I was able to pick up a game module to make DMing easier. I'm better at playing than DMing, to be honest. I started with the AD&D rules in the Oriental campaign, so I am pretty flexible on rule sets myself. The only thing I don't play are evil characters and evil-type campaigns. The backstabbing and nastiness get way too uncomfortable way too fast.
I'm available Wed/Thur/Fri evenings, and Wed/Fri days (Eastern, GMT -4/-5).
I'm involved in 3 Pathfinder rpg campaigns on Roll20 presently; an alternating Wed. night and one on Friday night. I've played with Oreofox and Radio in the past.
if some one wants to be the dm and form a group that would be awesome. Also if there are any groups that have an opening, that would be great.
Been thinking of trying out the DM's chair again. I made a couple attempts last year, which didn't pan out (I didn't quite feel into it, and getting employment helped put a wrench in it as well). No guarantees, though. Will be thinking it over more carefully this time. I would probably go with D&D 5th edition for the system, and try out either the Starter Set adventure, or try converting some older modules to 5th edition to get me more acquainted with the rules before I would get into a real campaign.
If I did, it would probably be sometime on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. I could be a bit more flexible on the time, if it would mean getting more players (though Thursdays and Saturdays would definitely be a non-option, thanks to my job).
Tuesdays and Wednesdays would work fine for me.
I enjoyed the campaigns back in 2013, but yeah, lots of things happened do they seemed to peter out by the end of the year. I've played with Radio and Oreo along with other gaiscioch members during those times. I think I rotated around 3 different campaigns from 2012 into 2013. I actually had fun doing these as long as people who committed showed up and were nice enough to announce when they wouldn't make it.
My best times to be involved would be 8pm to 11pm est any day but Monday's. I can be free in the afternoon's too, but I think most people can't be.
I'd have to go digging for my roll20 id and stuff. I think it might still be saved in my favorites on the desktop which is in the shop atm. The old bugger has parts giving up the ghost so it's getting an overhaul. The cool thing though is I can also do this on my laptop if need be.
On the note of RC, there is not a voice channel there, but we can put one back near the bottom. I know someone managed to mess with the room setup and Fog managed to stop the guy, but has only been putting rooms back as required. We can also make our own RC group if people prefer that. I know we did that with a couple of the roll20 crews back in 2013. Either way works for me since RC is free.
Added note - I'm not up on new systems for DMing, but have played about 15 different table top games starting way back in 1980 and DMd a lot of the older D&D version stuff as well as Call of Cthulu. I actually have a huge fantasy campaign world that I could wrap into something though I would have to digitize a lot of it.
I think my RC channel is still around. I would have to reinstall RC, which would be no problem at all. I know we used that for the very short lived Pathfinder game I tried DMing. I would be more than happy to have you around again, Bri. And would love to get to play with and know the others that have posted in here as well. I have been away from Gaiscioch for a very long time (since before ESO launched). I still have your account name in my "You've recently played with" column, despite playing with different people a lot more recently, so I can at least PM you your account name for roll20, Bri.
if you like you guys can barrow my TS server its got about 10 slots and is so far not really used until about 11pm anyways. If you guys are running it on any day but Monday, Tuesday, or Friday id love to join if not your still welcome to the server.
My groups are using Google Hangouts, works quite well.
Yeah, Tuesday or Wednesday works for me. I also live on the PST zone. Oreofox, I have DMed a few games and I have the Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Scourge of the Sword Coast as PDFs. If you want I can send either of them or both. Hoard goes from 1st to 7th level and Scourge is 2nd-4th level.
Also, my Roll20 account:
https://app.roll20.net/users/633047/chris-r
Ill throw in my account as well im also available at any time
https://app.roll20.net/users/819842/jordan-p
Looks like we have five or more people who would be interested in starting a group. Most of you have expressed interest in playing even if it means learning a new system.
Oreo and others have expressed willingness to DM.
We just need to decide who should be our great and powerful Dm and when our adventure should begin.
Going back through the thread, and writing down the names of those in here, I come up with up to 9 people (not counting me).
ThrorThunderfist
Pyrrhic
Hrukk
FireKyten
Briseadh (maybe?)
Radiologikal (if still interested?)
JaeOnasi
Excile
Berelyth (not sure about him, as I am not sure if he was expressing interest in joining or not?)
So that's 3 unknowns, with 5 or 6 with definite interest. While 9 is a bit much, 6-7 I could deal with. I know the ideal is 4-5, but past experience with this online has shown that people can be flighty, things can come up to take them away for that week, or playstyles just don't quite mesh well. My personal ideal is 5-6 for these very reasons, but I would not be adverse to 7.
So, those interested in wanting to play a D&D 5th edition game, with a rather rusty DM, over roll20.net (which is completely free), please post your interest in here. Preferrably with a link to your roll20 profile so I can give the invite directly through roll20. Also, with your available time slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (plus the timezone those times are listed at, so I can convert them to eastern US time).
That is, if you guys want me to be the DM. I would have no problem letting someone else take that chair and I join as a player.
I'm good for Tuesday, 6 - 10:00 PM EST
im good anytime Wednesday but im completely unavailable Tuesdays as I work 3pm to 11pm MDT ill have to recover my roll20 account and get back to you with that. Also if I may suggest we should do a campaign no one has played before save the GM otherwise we have problems with some players trying to figure things out while others are berating them for asking the wrong questions since they know what to say or do. not that its wrong to do so per say just rather annoying and kills the fun pretty fast.
my roll 20 account https://app.roll20.net/users/86444/jeffrey-h
Yeah just a recap: Tuesday or Wednesday works. I get home from work at 4:30pm PST so I can join in at 7:30pm EST.
FYI I am pretty good at separating Character knowledge vs. Player knowledge aka Metagaming. However, I can tell you I've played through Murder in Baldur's Gate. So if you do want to play something no one has played don't play that ^_^ (If I am even accepted in the adventuring party to begin with)
I do have Hoard of the Dragon Queen in PDF format but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
https://app.roll20.net/users/633047/chris
It has been a long time since i have played, so i may be very rusty. I think i could do very well at role playing. I'm excited to do all the voices. I havent done 5ed yet, but i think I could learn it.
I have the hardcover player's guide for 5e but have not played any as of yet.
I'm going to buy the starter kit soon
Seems we have people wanting to try both systems a bit, so I don't mind running a few sessions of Pathfinder to see how people feel about either of them. Thus letting people get to try out the sessions and see if they like the mapset ups and such.
I have the maps for Confirmation already programmed into roll20 which is a good one for people that have been out of play for a bit. I'm open for all comers till I have a full table. 20 pt. build for a level 1 and 150 gp.
If we want to do Wed - just because it's March I won't have a free Wed till April 1 @ 5pm PDT. <sad face> Sorry we host the 1st four here at Dayton, and I've given up fighting the traffic and just getting tickets.
That sounds good, Kyten. I can do mine on Tuesdays for those interested in playing D&D 5th edition with a rusty DM, and you can do Wednesdays for those who want to play some Pathfinder.
I hope I can get some people to try out 5th edition. I have played a bit of the starter set last summer (unfortunately had to drop from that), so I know the rules a little. Going to go with a 4th edition adventure that I am going to attempt to convert up to 5th edition. It kinda ties in with the Elemental Evil storyline that will be coming out next month.
So, those wishing to play with me as DM on Tuesdays for 5th Edition, give me a PM on here or over roll20 (just scroll up for my roll20 account link). I already got one from ThrorThunderfist. I am guessing it would be ok to PM Kyten for those interested in Wednesday Pathfinder? I will give those who PM me an invite over roll20 so they can get started creating their characters (creation guidelines are outlined there).
I sent out invites for my Tuesday D&D 5th edition game. Looks like we will play for about 2.5 hours each week. One has accepted, and I sent out another 4 to Hrukk, Pyrrhic, ThrorThunderfist, and Briseadh. We will start with a "short" adventure, taking us from 1st to 3rd level (the one mentioned in my previous post) to get everyone learned with the rules. Then, if all goes well (we mesh together, I don't suck at being DM, everyone likes the 5th edition rules, etc), we can get into something more longterm (thinking the Elemental Evil storyline that releases April 7th, so far) with either new characters or continue with the ones started for this little adventure.
Still working on the roll20 portion. Employment sure does eat up the free time, doesn't it?
are we starting this coming tuesday, if so what time?
Probably not this coming tuesday. Will probably be at the earliest the 23rd. Still got a bit of mapping to do, and get people joined up. We could start next Tuesday for a character creation session, if people want to do that, so we can create the characters together and such, and answer any questions. If we do that, it will be at 730pm Eastern US time.
Oreofox;
What time, the only reason I'm not immediately jumping on board is I'm in classes till 9p EDT on Tuesdays. If your running PDT, I may be able to make it.
About 730pm Eastern time is when we will be starting, going until about 10 or 11pm Eastern time. I wasn't sure if you were interested in joining my 5th edition game, Kyten, since you said you were going to do up a Pathfinder game for Wednesdays. Right now I have 3 people joined up (Berelyth, ThrorThunderfist, and Pyrrhic), with a link to the roll20 game also sent out to Briseadh and Hrukk, but they haven't gotten back to me yet (either with a reply or by joining).
Honestly, I could do any day except Fridays and Saturdays now (switched my Thursday and Friday schedules), just that my Tuesdays and Wednesdays have a more open schedule for myself. Sun, Mon, and Thurs I can do about 830 until 11pm or Midnight if one of those days would be better suited to not only the 3 that already joined, but also anyone else interested. If none of those 3 are able to change up the day, then we will stick with Tuesdays. I would feel like a huge donkey if I changed the day and one of them wouldn't be able to make it, as they seem to already be working on characters.
You just need to go with the majority as to play times and not worry about somebody having to drop; it's never going to work out 100%.
I'm excited I made a dwarf paladin of nuada (celtic pantheon). I still need to tweak my character sheet, but I'm close to being ready for our campaign.
I like the idea about a character session... I'll need the help.
I would be happy to do a character session as well =)
Well, I am on at the moment, and can go ahead with the character creation session. If you guys end up checking this. I will be on for a few hours while I get stuff situated in the game. So feel free to join me
Sorry I missed the character session. I was spending time with the fam.
No worries. Figured we could do another for next week, and then start on the adventure afterwards. Besides, family comes first.
I mostly have my character complete
Well, we had one person that had to drop the game, so I could move it to Wednesday if that would open the game for more people. Time would be something that would be available for each person, but preferrably no later than 11pm Eastern time zone.
i can do it Wednesday if need be.
Wednesday is fine with me.
https://app.roll20.net/join/726063/TeLKMg
There's the link to the roll20 campaign. Hoping for the first session to be Wednesday, the 1st of April at 7:30 pm Eastern USA time. Feel free to click the link to join the 5th edition D&D campaign for anyone who would be interested.
^ Yes please join us. We will have loads of fun. :). Everyone is welcome
» Edited on: 2015-03-30 11:55:22
Added a character for approval, since you only seemed to have 3 players *expected more participation, and so was waiting as I know of some local groups I can play with too.*
This is a new thing to me? What is tabletop games?
Have you heard of Dungeons and Dragons or other Role Playing Games.
Jairone I'm sure that Oreofox would appreciate more participants. Remember that we will be starting today 7:30 pm Eastern USA time. We are going to be on rc in Oreofox's channel. If you have any questions feel free to ask Oreofox since he will be our almighty DM or I'm sure one of the other experienced group members will gladly respond as well.
Do you have your own RC, Oreofox or will it be channel on Gaiscioch's RC?
Look at Thror go at making all these charisma persuasion checks to get people to play ;)
Let me make a charisma check I rolled an 20 (18+2 mod) :)
The raidcall channel is linked in the roll20 page description.
My Time is Very Very not scheduled. so i might see if i can join on any game that you guys schedule but i cant guarantee anything
I Joined the Campaign "I Think"
And i Joined the RC.
So if i see you guys are ready to play and i can join i will do!
-Necro
Ah, had a couple bad days health wise, but I could have been there last night if I had been paying attention and signed up! I watched NCIS reruns on the couch instead. HA!
NOTE: got joined, but need to figure out where to look on how to make a character, where to send that character info, etc etc. I also could not figure out the RC info because I don't see no stinking page info linky do on roll20, but that's probably me. If it is the same raidcall we used in 2013 for that campaign, I still have that one! Gonna PM ya too just to be sure or even email ya to be sure we work this out. HA HA!
PS my husband saw me checking out the page and when I told him what he was he said, "I probably won't need the computer on Wednesday nights!
I'm sure that Oreofox would love would have both Necro and Briseadh. He said he ould handle up to 7 people in the campaign.
The character sheets that Oreo wants you to fill out and link to him are on this website.
Oreofox"s Raidcall channel ID is 5515578 (xayrax).
I just wanted to give a shout out to Oreofox for the good job he did at being DM last night. I enjoyed myself very much and am looking forward to next weeks campaign.
In yesterdays campaign we journeyed to the town of Easting to investigate the rumors of a demon plague.
Necro let me send you a pdf file of the basic rules of the game.
http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/PlayerDnDBasicRules_v0.2.pdf
There are also some different videos and resources that will help you make a character, and I'm sure that all in our group would be willing to help you. :)
Is it strange that I have been reading your comments in your dwarf voice?
That's not strange its awesome. :)
Helped Briseadh make her character just now. Wood elf cleric with the life domain (only one available in the free pdf). So the things you guys will be fighting should hopefully prove to be less deadly. Though, thankfully, no one died in our first session. Came close, but fell short of death.
And I am glad that you enjoyed my DMing. It makes me more keen on continuing to DM if I know the players are enjoying it. Maybe once we are finished with this campaign, if people are still interested, I could try and run something in my homebrew world that I have been working on sporadically since 2003.
I can always help answer questions for the game (I have a full scanned PDF of my handbook on the computer, so I have easy reference for copy pasta so people can read what they have!)
Just wanted to thank our awesome Dm Oreofox for putting up our group campaign in the tabletop rpg forums.
I can't wait for our next adventure tomorrow.
Just noticed this typo by Jairone and couldn't resist commenting:
copy pasta
So is copy pasta a gluten free version? ;) Or just a cheap attempt at good pasta brands?
Bri, that is no typo. That's a nerdy geek culture thing. Glad you enjoyed it though!
If you guys are taking newcomers i would be interested, i have never played online, and i just started playing a few months ago with some local friends, let me know if its cool if i can join and also what you need from me.
https://app.roll20.net/users/858590/beaf
Mentioned this to Oreo... we are level 2 as of our near death experience this week...
He'll get back to ya!
Feel free to click on the link https://app.roll20.net/join/726063/TeLKMg
As Jairone said, we just reached level 2 tonight. We have a ranger, cleric, warlock, rogue, and paladin. The character creation guidelines are located on the roll20 page.
At this rate we will soon need to have a second group. Mwuahahahaaa
I almost died like three times last session lol. I excel at being the meat shield for the group hehehe
I hope our personalities dont start overwhelming Oreofox lol.
This is awesome
Just don't make a noble, you will be chastised just because you are better than everyone else. When has being better than everyone become such a bad thing?
HA HA! The characters in this crew are an interesting lot and pull no punches when busting on each other rather due to ire or fun! I definitely had a blast getting my character in there for the second session and yes, in one fight three of us were all down at 0HP at the same time! Including my cleric. My character has a new issue with large spiders!
Of course, it was my first evening so working out my character in reacting properly in both typed chat and voice chat will get worked out better. ::chuckles::
BTW, the one break I took quick when no one else did let me see the most interesting part of the Yankees game where they got ahead. LOL! I didn't need to see the rest.
Hey guys i will read up on the rules and try figure out how to make a character. But because of my terrible timetable plus the point i am in a very different timezone i dont know if i will be able to make any games but i will continuously check in to see if there are games i can make. Sorry :)
-Necro
I dont really know how this whole thing works plus i know you guys have already had a few rounds so i am hoping i can join in but if it is too troublesome and if i miss heaps more rounds i might just drop out.
Well the one I am in being run by Oreo is on Wednesdays starting at 7:30pm est/ 4:30pm pst and we went until midnight EST this last week since I was going to the doctor instead of getting up for work, but around 11pm est/8pm pst will be the stopping time due to my little morning job.
Not sure if there is another one going on or not that you can hop into if Oreo's is not at a time you can do.
So far this is the first and only group. It was kind of a test to see if there were even enough people who wanted to play.
However I'm certain there are a number of people that would love to play either this version of DND or a different version or of some other tabletop rpg such as pathfinder. I might start another topic in the tabletop forum for forming groups.
Wandering mercenaries are welcome to at least learn the system and how to play, I would expect. No promises on how many people Oreo is comfortable handling. Too many hands, one Oreo, tends to make bad things happen, after all!
At the moment, I have 5 players who are actually in and playing. There are 2 others who joined (roll20 accounts Dylan V and Beaf), but haven't done anything else, such as create a character. If one of them does, I will be at my comfort limit, at least for the time being. Being fairly rusty as a DM (been 9 years since I successfully DMed, been since last year since I attempted it), I don't want to take on any more than 6 for now. Once I get more comfortable and experienced as DM, I could probably take on a couple more. I did play in a group of (at one point) 12, which dropped down to 10 and then 8. So I have been part of larger groups, but I haven't DMed one.
There had been quite a large amount of interest in the one thread I linked earlier in this thread. I know there are quite a few people who are interested in doing tabletop RPGs.
Dylan V is me :) i will make a character within the next day
-Necro
i guess you beat me to it necro i have my character sheets cass ect but i have yet to roll, i was waiting for Wednesday, if you guys make a second group let me know :D
Beaf you go in om Wednesday im still very confused and working on a character and the rules. So you do it haha
-Necro
I will be on my raidcall channel most of today (the number was listed earlier in this thread, and is also on the roll20 campaign page), to help out with characters and any questions people might have.
Our Dnd group experiences have been amazing so far :)
In case people still check this: I put up a new thread in the tabletop forum, asking for some help.
