Learning an Elementalist...Arcana - Lingering Elements....what is it?

So I am doing some early research into some possibel builds I would like on the Ele.

I ran into the Arcana Minor Adept skill called Lingering Elements, and as you can see in the link the bonus reads  as follows, " Attunement bonsues linger for 5 seconds."

My question is, what bonsues are they talking about?

The other traits I am looking at are active the entire time I am attuned to an element, i.e Air magic Minor Adept - Zephyr's speed - allows me to move 10% faster while attuned to Air. I don't see lingering elements helping that out because I'm fast the whole time I am in air.

Does lingering elements give me 5 additional seconds of that speed if I switch to another attunement?

When attuning to an element, you and all nearby allies gain: Fire: might Water: regeneration Air: swiftness Earth: protection When you switch elements it procs a little boon. Arcane Power at level 10 allows you to pick Elemental Attunement (skill V I believe). Which provides the above ability. Lingering is picked up at 15 points into Arcane Power.

Bru, I have browsed through that page and wasn't able to identify it 100%. I might be missing it. Barbossa, So if what you are saying is true then there is no point to get Lingering Elements unless you select elemental attunement, correct? PS My spelling/typing was horrid in that OP

From memory (was a couple of Betas ago I tried an Ele) there are a number of abilities that offer an extra bonus depending on your attunement. The main example I am thinking of is the basic heal skill, which in addition to healing you gives you swiftness if you are attuned to air - perhaps it is these that are gaining an additional 5 seconds of duration.

Not sure exactly - I did not play and Elem during beta, not my cup of tea From what I have read the Arcane Power trait line gives them a more support role with boons that can proc on the group not just themselves and farther in the trait line will condition the enemy. Arcane Power also increase boon duration and attunement recharge allowing you the switch between them more frequently which will apply the boons to the group and conditions to the foe. Most Elems from what I have seen spec in heavy dps and not support. I may have to play and Elem with this trait spec, seems pretty cool. Okay, I believe i can answer this with confidence. First: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Attunement Does provide good information, but you need to understand attunements and boons are different. First off. When attuning to an element you can get certain boons: "Master minor traits These traits cause an area of effect to activate whenever the elementalist switches to the corresponding attunement. The effect is centered on the elementalist. Attunement Trait Line Trait Description Air Attunement - Electric Discharge Strike your target with a bolt of lightning when attuning to air. Earth Attunement - Earthen Blast Damage foes and cripple them for 3 seconds when attuning to earth. Fire Attunement - Sunspot Inflict damage at your location when you attune to fire. Water Attunement - Healing Ripple Heal nearby allies when attuning to water. " Sorry if its not lined up properly. its a copy and paste job. But.. these are not effected by it. They are either boons or conditions, or event direct damage, that is placed on corrospondinng players. What I believe is effected by the Linger Elements trait is thus: Adept minor traits These adept minor traits give a passive benefit that lasts for as long as the elementalist is in the corresponding attunement. Attunement Trait Line Trait Description Air Attunement - Zephyr's Speed - Move 10% faster while attuned to air. Earth Attunement - Stone Flesh - Gain 1 toughness per level while attuned to earth. Fire Attunement - Flame Barrier - You have a 20% chance to cause burning whenever a foe attacks you in melee. Only triggers when attuned to fire. Water Attunement - Soothing Mist - Regenerate health while attuned to water. These are all buffs that are not boons, but rather specific buffs you gain while in the attunement. They refresh, as i've noticed smoothing mist is a 9 second buff that refreshed every 5 seconds. If watch attunements what lingers is the “attuned to Air” icon, and thus the passive buff (not boon you get from initially entering the attunement) stays for those 5 seconds. Hope this clarifies things. -Jedgar
