Thank you to many of you guys for helping guide, coach, and play with my son Padiwaun. So many of you guys have taken time to coach him, correct him, and even admonish him as may be needed. I am very grateful to you guys for caring enough to do so. As some of you may know, Padiwaun, aka John Luke IRL, is 11 years old and home-schooled. He is super smart and loves the interaction with you guys. Gaiscioch is truly a family, much more so than any guild I've been a part of. And, (back when I had time) I've been a guild leader and 2IC of some decent sized guilds, so that isn't easy for me to say :)

A special note of thanks to Old Goat, Bri, Kim, Winter and River for what you guys have done with him. I'm probably forgetting someone, so I apologize for that lapse - no offense intended.

If some of you are interested, here are my goals and objectives that I've discussed with him and we are working on.

  1. Thinking before he speaks. Develop a clear thought inside his brain housing group before he speaks, and then speak clearly with firm articulation. he has a tendency to speak before he thinks, and sometimes mangles his words in a rush to get his thoughts out. I limit his time on Discord, so as to force him to use guild chat, which requires him to think and type.
  2. think of others before himself. Like any of us when we were kids, he is struggling with "me" and "instant gratification".
  3. manage his game time. He has a minor game induced seizure from other games and or from too much time on the computer in one session. We've limited his choice of games, such as mine craft, due to the fast flicker and pixelized nature of the games. We've bought a high end computer and monitor for him to play. However, as all of us know, we have to master ourselves and be our own boss about our lives, so this is one aspect of self discipline I've been working him on pretty heavy.
  4. Complete his his in game goals. He is pretty good about developing and setting goals, to include learning about the game lore and mechanics. However, he needs to improve on completing those goals vice abandoning them in stride and picking another. His in game memory is fantastic, but his goal completion is lacking - directly related to #2 above.

I am truly impressed and grateful with Gaiscioch - the people comprising the guild really do serve as exemplars for the values set by the Elders. Thank you, all, so very much.

Regards,

Padishah Guardian

Very nice to hear the update Padishah! I am not on as much at the moment, but it is nice to know your goals. That way when I do see him, I will know the gameplan. He does come to a few events I run and play.

He is a joy to interact with and very polite, kudos to you!!! I totally understand where you are coming from, I homeschool my grandkids and I also limit their time on games/ Ipad atm.  I hope I can help him with his goals in game sometime. I really enjoy running events with him!!

I think the biggest one is he talks too much still. :) I've politely told him about this during some events where he also has a habit of telling us everything he is doing. In WvW, if you are not with the tag and not doing something the commander told you to do, this tends to interrupt comms more than even my chatter and I CAN talk! Just ask a lot of people around here. ;) He is a great kid and I'm glad we have had discussions about him, you and I, over the past month in what to work on.

I think it is great you are making him type a lot more. It is a great thing to learn in this day and age for sure.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D
