Nice articles. Gave me a lot of info I didn't know about. Thanks Velad
Thanks a heap... I read through it and now understand some things much better. I've added it to my Favorites so that I can refer back to it. Really helpful.
Well, those certainly help with my confuzzlement ;) Thank you for posting those links! Bookmarked!
After reading Dulfy's tip/trick post I have a question about the dodging. She stated that you need to double tap your movement buttons WASD in order to dodge. My question is: What if you're the type of player who doesn't utilize the WASD buttons (unable too due to finger amputation from baseball injury 3 years ago) and all my movement is done by the mouse. Will you be able to bind your movement to the mouse? (my pre-purchasing may be dependant on this) Also, I understand the open beta weekends will possibly be only once a month, if you pre-purchase I know you have access to the beta-weekend but will it allow you to download the gamefiles prior to that weekend? The reason for this question is I'm on a pretty slow DSL connection and last game I downloaded 10GB worth took 22 hours. *facepalm* So I'd lose most the weekend anyway trying to download.(wife aggro also inhibits my gametime during the weekend) Everything I've read about the game has reflected positively in my mind, even the negative reviews. I understand it may not be for everyone, even us old timers with 20+ years gaming experience. I only hope the difficulty and non-standard MMO experience weeds out the whiners. I only hope the control system will be adjustable as my mobility is limited at times (aka my "nub fingers" dislike the WASD keys)
Roadblock, yes, you can rebind the dodge key. Because of mobility issues in my hands I play with a G13 gamepad. A single press on an easy to reach key and I'm dodging. :) You should also be able to download the files as soon as you pre-order, create your account and register the key.
Zash, Thanks for the reply. Since I play with a standard keyboard and naga mouse I'm sure I can just bind a couple of the keys to the naga buttons. This is how I've bound my autorun for the past couple of years. Also, I understand that GW2 is not allowing mouse movement from what I've read (aka point-n-click) movement, which is not a problem as I've never like point and click. But will it allow the movement via the right mouse click? For instance, in almost every game I've played in the past i've either used both mouse buttons to move and the pointer for my positioning. But within the past 5 years I've generally used just my autorun button and hold right click button for positioning. This is generally known just moving with the camera. Will this be possible in GW2? Just click my autorun, use my rightclick button for positions. Also, I really liked what I read about the limited number of hotkeys which will be a plus in my book as it's already hard enough to hit all my keybinds with the limited mobility. I think that's why I liked Rift so much with the extensive allowance of the macro's. So if the movement isn't going to be an issue then I'll definately pre-purchase. I only wish I could get into beta without having to prepurchase to test how I'm able to do with the movements. :)
Not sure about the auto run and using right mouse button - but I know you can use both mouse buttons for running and direction as that is my general way of movement in the world. So I am assuming your auto run will work the same for you as it has in other games with that feature. I also know that the arrow keys work for the dodge as I have done that. I tend to be all over the keyboard and mouse when I play and although using both hands will go from hotkeys to arrow keys - and from mouse to arrow keys - there was also a button you could click on the screen that was for dodge - but I forget if it was only one direction or had multiple directions - maybe someone else can fill that blank in.
After seeing this link on GW2 Wiki it looks like I have nothing to worry about. :)
Here is a pic of the keyboard/mouse reference sheet.
