Sticking with Rift?

I would be lieing if I didnt say I had some worries about the population of the Family on Rift after the release of GW2.

Just wondering who all is planning to stick around, or play both? I would hate to see such a powerful and driving force in Rift be reduced to a shadow of its former self. I can honestly say that Faeblight, and quite possibly Rift in entirity would be a very dark place without Gaiscioch.

I'll be playing both. Quite a few of the people really looking forward to GW2 don't play rift anyways. ie Vampiresbane. Whats more Storm Legion is bound to bring some new faces with it. There will be people who stop playing Rift I'm sure, but I think our presence in Rift is fairly safe.

even after a long break from rift, i've found i got really used to how it felt (control wise) so it might be a tad hard to get into the feel of gw2, if you're like me =x I'll probably stick with gw2, though.

I'm really looking forward to GW2, but then I don't really play Rift.

I'll be playing both. I see each of them scratching a different MMO itch of mine. Plus, with GW2 not having a sub I don't feel any pressure to choose one over the other.

I'll probably take a break from Rift once GW2 releases, but I'll certainly be back for the expansion! Eventually it should all even out & I can play the both games somewhat equally.

I will primarily be playing Rift but I going to have to give Gw2 a try after all I have heard about it from fellow family members. You can never tell if a game is made for you until you try it. I came to Rift fully expecting not to like it and was blown away. I am not sure which will fill the gaming itch for me but no matter I not planing on letting Rift go. I just did preorder GW2. I also just made lvl 50 in rift and am now expert dungeon ready so I do not see me leaving any time soon.

I am probably going to just play GW2. It runs better and it has better organized PVP, which is what I really want to experience with the family. I may play Rift again when their expansion comes out depending on much time I am spending in Guild Wars 2 and how well Trion has Rift running.

I enjoyed my time in GW2 during BWE3, but I'm still on the fence when it comes to playing. I felt quite overwhelmed by the size and scope of GW2, and spent a lot of my time playing the "how does this work, what do i do here" game. The other turn off was it seems there is a level gap when it came to the heart quests and story questline, causing me to have to grind out a level or two pretty often in order to continue the quests. I'm not big into PvP in any game (besides FPS games), so the PvP draw GW2 has doesn't pull to me very much.

I am a total noob to GW but am considering it. Would need a lot of hand holding in the beginning. I have set RIFT aside for now and trying to enjoy D3.

Our active Rift players on Guardian side could drop by 80% and still be a large guild. I think I'll let Rift subscription subside when GW2 launches. Until the expansion, I'm out of things I want to do in Rift, unless I were to join a raiding group, but I really like Gaiscioch.

@Mulch even with a raiding guild you'd get bored-ish, trust me. It's all about the friends :P Take it from someone who's been there, done that. (I was pretty much top rogue dps on faeblight for a long time( left awhile before hammerknell came out i think) Even with the raid content, i stopped because many of my friends were as well, you'll probably enjoy yourself more just sticking with the family :3 Try artifact hunting, it's really fun. *shoutout to falcon here, you maniac O__O*

I think you're right, fun people make a game fun, and Gaiscioch feels very good to me.

I'll still be primarily playing Rift. GW2 might be something I look at after the ticker tape parade around it has died down a bit. I'm more attached to the family than I am to a game, so wherever the cards end up falling is where I'll ultimately go. But for now, staying with Rift!

I was on the fence. So I went and looked at some of the new expansion for Rift, definitely want to explore the new continents. Some epic open world activities to be had. Losing my faith about Rift's pvp but I'll persevere. Have 6 month subs.

I wouldn't really be too worried about this. One thing I've noticed is that tons of people since GW2 is F2P will buy it and continue their Rift subscription. Will my Rift playing time go down? Of course, but I think the family in Rift will continue to thrive.

I'll be sticking with Rift. I'm actually looking forward to Neverwinter as my upcoming free-to-play alternative however. I'm curious if anyone else has an interest in that game.

As much as I think Rift is a solid game with a lot of aspects very well done, there's one thing that is so fundamentally corrupt and broken and poisonous to MMORPG's that it makes the decision between games easy for me. And that is gating. And the more I play the game, the more hearing about you guys having so much fun in Conquest or w/e makes me mad that I can't be there just because Trion had to put an arbitrary gate there for some unknown reason. Why pay $15 for a game that prevents you from playing with your guild?

Like many, I am on the fence. If it wasn't for these forums I probably wouldn't have looked twice at GW2 ;) However, I did and the more I saw of GW2 the more I liked it. I will try GW2 when it comes out while keeping my Rift subscription however it comes down to time. I just don't have the time to fully develop and participate in two different games.

Only Rift for me. I don't have the time to play two games. I tend to stay with one game for a very long time--I played DAOC for seven years--before moving on to the next one. However, it does depend on what family and friends are keen on doing to some extent. For now, Rift is it.

Only GW2 for me, but I don't affect the Rift population. I stopped playing Rift many moons ago when my preorder subscription ran out... it just wasn't the MMO for me. IMO the choice of two great games is quite a boon. I've certainly had times in the past where no MMO looked appealing.

I was initially hoping to play both games, but I'm finding my time more and more constrained of late. I've barely been in Rift the last few months, only exception being to try out the family conquest events. Unfortunately, Guild Wars 2 is going to win out on the merits of its gameplay and relative lack of gear and leveling grind. I will be letting my Rift sub run out this month, but have to nevertheless congratulate Trion on creating a magnificent MMO - their polish and service to creating and maintaining Rift is magnificent (they delivered more polish in alpha and more content in the first 6 months than WAR managed after 2.5yrs). Guild Wars 2 however has tapped into everything I loved and missed about WAR, and want back, while at the same time removing most of WARs flaws, and all in a non-subscription package (which is a big thing when I'm also paying for my wifes accounts). I'd love to say I'll return to Rift someday if my time frees up, but with GW2 having a 24/7 WvWvW competition going with the honor of a server dedicated to Oldroar at stake, I don't see it happening (always intended to go back to WAR too for a few visits, but it never eventuates).

With the SW:ToR going free-ish to play, I'm thinking back to last November when it was about to launch. A great I.P. for a game, much anticipated and talked about. Surely SW:TOR played some part in Rift getting shrunk to so few servers, but really Rift (and Gaiscioch in Rift) has done just fine. A game that plays as well as Rift does is a rare breed in the MMO market. Personally, I'm hoping GW2 has some of that breed in it, but I'm only betting $79 on it. ;) (times 2 cuz I had to pay for Drakhor's copy)

Honestly, I'll probably just be GW2 for a while. While I had my fun in Rift after my return, I quickly ran out of things to do or wanted to do over and over again. I kinda like more variety than just running dungeons and raids over and over again. I may try again once the newest expansion is out though. After all, even running repetitive content over and over again, it was still fun playing with the family :D

Rift for me and IronLegionnaire what do you mean? I don't know what gating is nor why you cannot play with your guildmates? I've never had an issue...

Gating is the restriction of content in a game to players/characters who've done particular previous content. Early in MMOs, you had to be flagged, or have a key to get into some zones. By controlling access to the keys, a guild could lock down access to raid bosses that dropped the good stuff, for example. In the current generation of MMOs, gating comes less formally than keys and flags. For example, none of my characters can do I.D. because they lack enough hit/focus to be of use. However, if a group with strong other characters wanted to bring me, I could come. So the gating in Rift is done by level initially, and then gear. My main hasn't had a meaningful upgrade in gear drop since I came to Gaiscioch. I don't see that changing until the expansion. I can grind out 120 infernal marks at 2.5 marks per day doing experts, and the 2 weekly quests, or I can give up on getting that gear. So... I'll see you when the expansion comes out, eh. -- that's a consequence of the gate principle.

I have no intent on doing GW2. I will be a rift guy.

I may have left Rift, but I'm sure the family is going to do just fine. I know Fog and several of the elders are not leaving. I also know there are people going one way or the other or both. But that's the great thing with this family is that you can always play when you want and how you want. GW2 just gives us another place to do that. Gaiscioch has never left a game unless there is a HUGE population reduction and loss of interest that makes it impossible to maintain its events. So our Rift guild would have become pretty inactive before Fog walked away and he don't give up easy keeping something alive and breathing. =) A lot of effort from this family has and will continue for both games. So keep playing what you want because as long as you are here and active, life will continue to be breathed into the Gaiscioch of both games.

Actually after the D side pretty much shut down, I probably won't go back to Rift at all. I spent all my time D side and have no real interest in trying to level up and re-equip new G side characters. I only have 1 free space left on my account and have 4 D-side characters and a lowbie G side I only used to mail website orders. Not sure i'll even go back to try the expansion now.

rift tried and true

I'll be playing 80% GW2, 20% Rift until Storm Legion comes out. Then I suppose it will shift the opposite way and back. I like Rift too much to really stop, but I like GW2 too much to not want to dive into it.

After going through the past three stress tests, I have decided that I will be going to GW2 full time and let my Rift subscription run out. The way they have taken a new approach to classes (professions) and ultimately WvWvW (RvR, PvP) is too much to resist.

I will be on Rift off and on until sub runs out in Jan. I will be in GW2 for the most part. Still plan on hanging with my long time friends in EQ2 sometimes too. So....there you have it :)

My intention is to play both but I may be leaning to the GW2 side.

When my Rift subscription for Kirleen is up I won't be renewing, it's a fiscal thing for me. GW2 will become my main game since my husband is finally in the mood to play an mmorpg again and it won't be pay2play other than the initial investment for the game. That being said, that is just me and my situation. There seem to be tons of folks that will keep on Rifting and aren't all that interested in GW2. I suspect our presence in Rift will still be very busy. =)

My Rift subscription expired last night and sadly I will not be renewing at this time. I was only part of Gaiscioch for a few months, but I really enjoyed my time there. I cannot afford to buy GW2 at the moment since my main game is still WoW and its newest expansion comes out very soon. But since GW2 does not require a subscription, as soon as it drops a bit in price (or I get a reliable job!), I will be re-joining the family there.

I just renewed my subs for 12 months with the new expansion offer they announced so ill be staying with Rift for the next 15 months at least.

I have no real plans to play GW2. I have it (husband bought it). Played for a short time (beta-weekend) and didnt really like it (I know, it was beta). Unless I am wrong, it is best played on a much better system than mine and with a gaming mouse (which I dont have and cannot afford). Treaa

I have never played Rift, but I do have a few things about GW2 that others were questioning that I want to comment on: @Treaa - I don't have a gaming mouse. I have tried one in the past and I don't like them. The mouse that I use is a ergonomic one that I love. I play WOW and The Old Republic with it and have done beta and stress tests on GW2 with it. As for the system, I'm no expert and Sporkimata would know better on that one. @Kirleen - I am soooo with you there. I actually stopped playing WOW for awhile to join my boyfriend on SW:TOR. When he stopped playing, I went back to WOW. Now that he is showing an interest in a game that also interests me, I am all over it!

My wife and I both enjoyed GW2, our biggest thing was that we dont know if we have the time to put into two games! Seeing as how GW2 is going to be the "home" of Gaiscioch, I would love to be with you all there, I just am wary to put out money for a game I might not have much time to play. Only time will tell tho.

I will be playing GW2, btu that will not affect Rift at all as I have not played for almost a year. Looking forward to meeting the people who came into Rift after I left, who will also play GW2.

I will definitely keep Rift as my main game. I will occasionally drop by GW2 but not sure yet if i will have a career there!

I had alot of fun w/ the family playing rift, playing on both defiant and guardian sides w/ gaiscioch was awesome. But I think that I've done everything that I want to do in rift, my gf got bored w/ it about a month ago and decided to stop playing and its been weird playing without her when we leveled up and played all our toons together. When SWTOR came out I tried to play both, I stayed w/ rift but it was hard to split up my time between the two games and towards the end I was pretty much just playing SWTOR. Recently because of money issues and going over budget building a gaming rig, I have had to cancel my subs for both Rift and SWTOR. also, this guild has spoiled me and playing an MMO without the family is just not the same. But because of those same financial issues, GW2 looks perfect to me with f2p, granted thats not the only thing that interests me, Ive been drooling over this game for years now, and so far I'm in love w/ it. When rift comes out with their new X-pack, I will see what my financial situation is and hopefully I'll be back. Rift was a really fun game but i can say without a doubt that the reason that I had so much fun in rift is this guild. I know that GW2 will be just as fun (if not more fun) playing w/ the family, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what this game has to offer w/ the rest of Gaiscioch.

I feel like I have not accomplished everything I wanted in Rift and therefore will be sticking with Rift for a while. Miraj

I just got GW2 after holding out for some reviews from friends of mine. So far I like it, but Rift is still my favorite. I am really waiting for 1.10 so I can join the main Guild. I don't like Guardian so it's a little lonely right now. And once Storm Legion releases I'll be there a lot more. Since GW2 has no sub it's a lot easier mentally to put it down for a while. :)

Rift really needs to develop better PVP. I have been playing GW2, but as a DOAC-fanatic, I dislike GW2 combat except when it comes to WvWvW. With that said, I have set my Rift sub to expire and will give GW2 some time, but Storm Legion is going to sway me quite a bit come November.
