Rebooting Rift - A Series of Fortunate Events

Hello Family!

Connor/Aisrine here, And I wanted to talk about Rift. Lately I've been hearing some heart felt stories about how thing's have changed and how people miss the old days. Well Im here to tell you, they havent gone anywhere!

Sure the crowds may have changed and the scene is shifting, but as people grow into other games, so do others into Rift. Storm Legion is upon us and its an extremely exciting time. Do not let the seperation of family into Guild Wars 2 Sway you! We are still very much a Rift contender!

So what does all this ranting mean ? I and a growing number of people who plan to remain dedicated soley to Rift are going to be taking initiative to restore that good old down home feeling back to Rift. We will be examining Raiding, Events and Over all Rift Operations. We will be sparking up new event's, and setting up those who want to help for complete and total success.

Seperation and new games are always a challange, but as I suspected there are a LOT of people who are willing to rise to that challange. So I encourage all that want to see Rift Thrive in the same way it used to, to pitch in, come hang out, attend events and by all means volunteer your time to help make Gaiscioch if Rift Great again.

Please let me know any idea's or suggestions you guys have, were all in this together. Lets get this thing started!!

Looking forward to seeing you ingame soon.

-Aisrine (Connor)

My list... 1. Level my main and aid guildies with difficult quest mobs when I can. 2. Get into dungeons ASAP and start gearing up our raiders for raid content and to hopefully aid new players with the basics needed so they can smoothly join a raid team and best serve our raid leaders. 3. Attend crifting as I usually do and possibly attend more events when able such as being a filler for current raid teams when they are short for members. 4. Build the coolest demension home ever! (Allow me my dreams?) 5. Curb my need to streak through the sanctum while telling bad jokes in guild chat. (I am kidding...maybe.)

Last week Arena.net falsely banned me from GW2 and I spent the week in Rift. I really enjoyed it. It has that classic PvE feel. I now plan to get some PvE fix in Rift and my PvP/WvW on in GW2. I hope to see some life in there. Thanks for doing this.

There's going to be new expert and raid rifts, I've seen new invasions in the beta, and this nifty new thing called hunt rifts, which look like a lot of fun and a great thing to get a lot of people together to do :) I'll also be throwing pool parties at my new house. I'm saving all my auctioning money for it. Since I have 3 tests and a paper due the week Storm Legion launches, I'll need it after the week is over >.<

I love rift, As a newer member I'm still a little behind the curve(as far as gear) I applied for this guild because my old guild had a relationship in WAR and when I when rift was new. I recall your week rift runs(jumping from rit to rift picking up players as you went like a snowball) and other events that I jumped into when I could. I'm just looking to have gun and help as many others do the same. True 2.0 is like starting fresh feel like such a n00b but this will change over time. Hoping to get my other 2 classes up to 50 soon but gearing thune(warrior) is going to be my new main, unless I can find a mage build I'm good with. as I'm found of saying I'm in it for the experience not the XP. Let us move forward and have a great time bringing all along who what to enjoy the ride.

Our Wednesday event will be hunting rifts in storm legion once the expansion is out. Hoping we can rekindle some pve events and maybe even discover a path that's enjoyable for a 3rd season of the telara saga.

There's quite a bit of new lore being added, so there's likely enough material for another telara saga :) For all you raiding family members out there, I also found this article that has a preview of Frozen Tempest, Crucia's raid, and Endless Eclipse, the Regulos raid. http://www.keenandgraev.com/2012/10/22/rift-storm-legion-tour-part-2/ They both look pretty darn cool :) At the bottom of the page is also a link to parts 1 and 3 of this whole "Storm Legion tour" series, they talk about dimensions and the changes to the game as well.

I did the resubscribe for a year for the expansion as well and I'm hearing a lot of good things about it. I've gone in a few times and although I played it for quite a bit even before I knew about Gaiscioch and have two level 50s (cleric and warrior) I feel lost when I get in game. My bags and bank are full of stuff I am not 100% sure what it all is anymore and I need to clean them out and I need to figure out how to heal, tank and dps again, yeah I know just set something up and go in and do it but I'm a bit shy as well. I know I really enjoyed leveling up my warrior tank in Rift more so than I ever did in WoW but it has been a long time, and I only ever got into a raid a couple of times (with another guild before I found out about Gaiscioch) So my suggestion would be some sort of event or something for those of us coming back into the game after a long hiatus which would help us figure out what is new and what would be best to concentrate on learning and what isn't. Maybe some instance groups which would be friendly to re-learners instead of go go go go? In the meantime does anyone have a link to a good warrior tanking build/guide that is current? And/or a good cleric healing one? I really do want to get more back into Rift I'm kind of sick of the WoW "world of dailies" right now and GW2 has gotten a bit boring so mostly just play with my friend there now.

I am subbed for a year too thanks to the deal for the expansion. I have been taking it easy on play time for the last couple weeks due to some real life stuff (nothing bad) and just not wanting to feel any burnout as i roll into storm legion. I have been stockpiling crafting rift lures hoping to do more crifting once i hit 60. Hit me up as as of last night i now have a 50 Mage, Warrior, Rogue (my main) and Cleric, all of them will be leveled up to 60 so i can be as useful as possible to the family. I still have GW2, but was all but turned off from that game thanks to how painful it has been to do WvW, I still get 2-4 hour queue times whenever i try to play :) so im here in rift for the long haul

I am very happy to see this topic today, as I was inquiring about RIFT earlier this morning. When I left RIFT, about a year ago, it was mostly because I had done all that I wanted to do in the year+ that I had played, and the next step for me was raiding for gear progression, which wasn't really an interest of mine, especially since the scene at the time was PUGing the lower tier raid zones. I had just joined the Tuatha (but my own guild was in its waning phase) so I hadn't really had a chance to make the connections for getting into the Family's raid community. I've always felt that had I joined Gaiscioch as a member, rather than the Tuatha, then I might have been able to make some raids, and become interested in them, maybe even still playing. Trion does have a really good deal, the Xpac free for a year's sub, and I have to admit that I'm awfully tempted to spring for it, even though I can't really afford it atm. I'm not really up to speed on all the new features of the Xpac, and I have to admit that hearing about housing does pique my interest... Housing is one of my gaming guilty pleasures. 6 days to decide... hmmm.

Bes, I really like that idea. I think doing a 101 event focused on what's changed for returning players is also a really good idea. People who quit over a year ago are coming back and it's pretty different than what it was then. Sekkerhund, I'd come back for the housing system. The possibilities are really vast with it. I spent hours on the beta just playing with my house. Leo was laughing so hard at me, since I was skeptical of how much fun player housing would be, and now here I am saving plat to buy stuff for it >.> I posted some screenshots of some of the housing options in a thread a while back, not sure where it is now though. Proffy, I don't think there's going to be anymore "OMGGOGOGOGOGGOOO" in dungeons when Storm Legion is released. There won't be 3 tiers of gear ahead of the dungeon drops, so running an expert in 10 mins is probably not going to be happening for a while. Everyone will be learning, so every group will likely be a learning group :) And... Raimla is coming back! YAY! *high five to fellow Defiant* omg, is it Tuesday yet?! I want Storm Legion!

I'll be picking up my xpac at midnight Monday night, and I have Tuesday requested off work. ;) I'll be around launch day, that's for sure, though money is becoming an increasingly pressing issue and my subscription may be in jeopardy. Hopefully, I'll pick up another job and it won't be an issue. *knock on wood* Anywho, if you see me on, feel free to bug me about joining stuff if bodies are needed. I'm helping someone level right now so I may not be paying attention to guild chat.... or may be randomly afk, as I am apt to do.

Kamaara and me will be running the new dungeons pretty much every day, both learning them ourselves as well as teaching guildees the ropes. We will be announcing them often in the guild, so a lot of people can benefit from it. We've been actively doing this with the sneak peak dungeon already, and it's a lot of fun to run them, plus it saves a lot of frustration having to relearn them without help all the time. Just remember: these runs are not primarily about speed, it's about getting the mechanics down, and finishing them at first. Fun and challenge are the biggest keywords, drops and experience are merely a bonus.

I just hit 50 yesterday and I'm starting to learn all the endgame Rift stuff (just in time for storm legion). I have a couple of questions. 1. I've done most of my raiding in WoW where addons are really important. Are there any addons for Rift that I should pick up. 2. I've healed about 90% of the raids I've been on. I prefer to mousehover heal, usually with the help of an addon. Is there a way to do that in Rift?

Cuth, There's no required addons for healing or raiding as far as I know, I'd check with individual raid leaders to be sure, though. Rift's pretty easy to play without addons, so you don't need them if you don't want to install them. With Storm Legion's release, too, a lot of them might not work for a while, so it wouldn't hurt to learn the game without them ;) http://www.riftui.com/downloads/info221-1.4.html This might be what you're looking for to do mouseover healing- maybe? It looks a lot like Grid & Clique from WoW. Which I think was mouseover healing? I'm not 100% sure, I never used mouseover addons & macros.

I haven't done a lot in a while but I too like mouseover healing. In Rift it is it basically done the same as I do it in Wow - with macros. Create macros for each healing spell like: /cast @mouseover or /cast @mouseoverui The second version says to only pay attention to the raid frames so use the first if mousing over the players themselves, the second if mousing over the raid frames is the way you prefer. As I say I haven't done this in a while so there may have been changes I am not aware of.

Thanks, that @mouseoverui is perfect. Something like clique would also be awesome but not needed. I've also noticed that on some single target healing spells you have to be facing your target. Are there many like that? Seems like it could be a headache in a raid.

Hmm I need to get back onto my healer I hadn't noticed a facing requirement before. As for Clique, click-box-healer may be what you want although I have not installed or tried since I don't care for click healing myself. But then again the status information might be useful so I may try it anyway. I still haven' decided what character to start relearning with - warrior tank or cleric healer (although I guess the cleric could be more flexible role wise anyway)

I'd suggest you try to heal without any addons or macros to begin with and then adjust according to your playstyle or need. But if you're coming from WoW, keep in mind that Rift is no where near as 'clicky' as WoW is when it comes to healing. This is primarily due to the fact that you have an abundant number of AoE heals. So you don't need to go around spamming single target heals on everyone. You'll find that raiding in Rift differs some from WoW and the other older MMO's in that you need to spend less worrying about the normal tasks like healing, tanking, dpsing and more on the actual fight mechanics. Some will say it's 'easier' because of this but I always thought it meant that I could spend more of my concentration on important things like boss mechanics rather than mundane things like healing people. Of course, I have been away for a while lol. So you'll have to forgive me if I'm a wee bit outdated teehee. I think I'll be around for Storm Legion also. At this point, I doubt very much I will be leading raids to their doom uhh I mean glory. But we'll see I suppose.

@Bentmer Thanks a lot, that's a great description for me. I ended up leveling a rogue to 50 this week because the tactician just looked too fun. Now I'm worried about raiding :) because I prefer to tank or heal. Is a rogue tanking in Gaiscioch raids realistic or would I be better off leveling a cleric?

@ Kuth - I raided in Rift without any addons, with success, so no Add-ons are really "must have". however, KBM is a fantastic addon that gives you warnings and timers for things that are NOT in your usual notification window, and has many other useful additions. If I were to pick a single addon to have installed, KBM (King boss Mods) would be it.

I thought about returning to Rift. I really enjoyed the game. The problem for me was that it didnt seem like there was much to do at max level. I like to do instances and would love to try to raid, but the truth is that Im not very good. I never seem to be able to hit the desired dps, heal as well as I should, or hold aggro with a tank. I managed to support pretty well as both a mage and rogue. If someone wouldn't mind mentoring me, I would love to go back to Rift and do some high level events with the family!

Yes, come back! I'm pretty new and trying to find the perfect spec, and learning new instances, so I'm a handful on runs lol... but we have a very patient crew ;-)

Riftstalker tanks have always been viable tanks in raids. In fact, our shard first Greenscale kill was by a RS tank. That being said, you should just play whatever you like doing because all the classes have enough versatility that you will always find a role for you in a raid. The key is that you understand all the souls and specs available to you because more often than not, you'll be asked to perform multiple roles inside a raid. Even as a cleric, you won't always heal or at least not the same way every time. I have some misgivings about boss mods, mainly because I think it makes people lazy lol, but the positive to boss mods is that it makes most people aware of alot more things going on in an encounter than they normally might without them. Rift in general, does not require many addons because it's UI is pretty versatile and flexible already.

I sprung for the 1yr, so I'll be re-joining RIFT sometime tomorrow and hanging around a while.

Radiologikal- Keep in mind this is a family who raids, not a raiding guild. You won't find a group of people more patient while you're learning. There's really tons of mentors around here, so just hop on in and ask away with questions and jump in dungeon runs. There will probably be a lot of them going now, since everyone's leveling up when Storm Legion goes live and not everybody likes to quest. So come back! This is a great time to do it!

@Bentmer - I agree about Boss Mods - normally dont use them, however, KBM does have a few handy timers. For instance, the waves on stage 1 aky - where there is no standard UI notification, is a helpful reminder to start panning.

Yea man, I am really considering Rift again. Guild Wars 2 just didn't have "it" for me I guess. I think I really missed having defined roles of healer, tank, dps, etc.. but that's a long rant for another day. I have been playing WoW lately and having a grand old time with it, but the daily quest grind is getting annoying. I am leaving out of town for a week, but I will probably get the expansion when I get back. Seeya in game :)
