I'm still here

Well as I'm sure you all know by now, the baby is here and I can't wait to spend more time with her! What anamazing journey and this little creature has changed me in ways I couldn't imagine.

I kept notes and thought I would share them with you all as I do consider you all my friends and family. Its kind of long but I think some of you may even identify with the feelings expressed. Anyways, when I get back to work I'll be checking on the forums and chiming in with my opinion when I can. See you all soon!




5: 40 am - woke up to panic, tracy thought furnace broke, it didn't, made coffee, checked email.

6 - miranda claimed to be sick again, took belly photos, mom called, can't make it, claims she was up all night, again...

7: 04 am - arrived at hospital, checked in

7: 08 tanya arrived, southern states frozen disaster, we have snow and bitter cold.

7: 18 our room is # 5.

7: 21 tracy demands no pictures. Takes her cranky level to 3.

7: 26 our nurse arrives, mary. Mary hooks up the electrics and we are waiting... Tracy cranky level maybe 2-3. Baby heart rate 131.

7: 52 - completed check in interview, drawing blood now, she may be more uncomfortable with the blood draw than the cervix exam. Tanya is watching the soprano's... Cl coming down, loss of blood might lower stress.

8: 15 -made the first call out to family only. No news to report, just the basics.

9: 06 having breakfast, tracy tired, needs a nap- right after we went to eat the contractions started!

9: 25 showing signs of stress pain level at 2-3.

9: 30 attempted to capture moment on film... Cl at 4-5. Threats include face punch and camera crunch. Also warning of throwing me out.

9: 43 all having a good laugh... Disaster post phoned...

10: 07 watching price is right, contractions about 4 min apart. Pain is getting worse. Swelling is noticeable.

11: 50 waiting on mom to arrive, needed a break, room is hot and making me sleepy. Seen super dave in lobby, john had knee surgery in room 522. Nothing new to report, contractions are at 3-4 minutes apart and increasing pain level. Mon said she will be here soon

12: 18 having muffin snack and juice waiting for mom. Seen john, guy looks rough.

I have maintained contact by splitting the info between two groups, family and friends. My personal feelings have not yet presented themselves.I'm not scared or anxious, it almost feels like its not happening to me or reality has not set in. I just want it to be over so I can start a new chapter in my life. Mom is bringing gifts, I wanted to buy a stuffed lamb or something, but my concern over saving money for emergency prevents me. Trays friends are excited as is my sister.

12: 38 mom arrives.

1: 48 waiting for doctor, at exam he may pop water bag. Contractions getting serious now, not enough to call in the family

2: 09 another exam, no change, no labor, no closer...

Everyone starting to feel like its never going to happen. Plan to text around 3 pm.

2: 43 nurse administers pain medication. Doctor not here. Tracy phone dead. I need my charger and maybe overnight bag.

3: 23 doctor broke the water!!

Cl is at 5. She's in pain, lots. Doctor says must wait one hour for epidural.

We seem to be able to distract her from the pain by telling her she looks skinny and pretty. The same method I used to get her pregnant.

Her contractions are coming every minute and they seem extreme.

4: 16 tracys parents here. Everything is getting intense. She is in pain. I'm in waiting room so tracy mom and dad and miranda can be in the room

4: 39 nurse just said she is giving her the pain med again.no epidural until doc gets here.



5: 19 5, pain at 10, no doc yet no epidural.

5: 34 she freaking out, screaming and yelling

5: 59 doc here epidural inc.

6: 08 epidural started. Battery almost dead.

6: 29 phone on charge, epidural in, tracy much better.

6: 38 tracy refusing to wear her oxygen mask

7: 20 takin a break, so friggin tired.

7: 39 miranda crying about her head again, and ipod.

758 tracy starting to feel contraction pains again

804 get ready!!

10: 30 pm touchdown, she's amazing

Please tell me you didn't scream "Touchdown" when the baby arrived. 8) Again, congratulations on life's most precious gift. Thank God men aren't the ones designated to have babies. If we were, the human race would die out. Women are much tougher than we are.

I must congratulate you on the timing (as well as the wee one). An 'am' start and 'pm' finish sounds rather ideal. My little one had the nerve to initiate my wifes contractions at 11pm, when we were already exhausted from a long day and ready for bed... still not sure where I found the strength to literally hold my wife upright for most of the night (no way was the little one going to let my wife sit, squat, crouch or heaven forbid... lay down).

Congrats again, I think I asked on a thread a few months ago, but is this your first ? My wife is due in July with our 3rd !

Hey guys, thanks again for the replies! Actually I didn't yell touchdown... I was removed from the room twice! Apparently I turned green and almost passed out so they removed until the last minute... I actually became a paramedic with extensive military training when I first began work with the government, so this confuses me. I've seen worse, but for some reason this one almost took me down. Yeah she's my first, probably my only. I think I want to call it quits after just one plus my step daughter. I'm in my 30's and feel I can give her all of my effort and be content. I've found a majority of support and literature through New Zealand, the average age of a new father there is 33. I'm a big fan of the culture there and plan to use the cultural influence in raising her. Anyways, thanks for the kind words all. I don't mean to monopolize the forums with my personal life! Also can anyone see the pictures or do you have to open them like a link?
