Greetings all,
I haven't been around in quite some time (like 2ish years!), so I figured I'd post up an official intro.
My name is David and I'm 40 years old. I own and operate a small business with clients all around the States. My wife and I currently live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area of Texas but are likely moving (again) shortly. Her career has had us moving around a good bit - this'll be our third cross-country move in the past seven years. Yes it's getting very old! We're dying to settle down somewhere! Luckily for us I can run my business from just about anywhere.
I have too many hobbies to list but needless to say computer gaming is among them. My first experience gaming on PCs came with a game called Karateka back in the mid-80s on an Apple 2+! A few years later I got hooked on a game called Starflight and I've been an avid gamer ever since. I didn't get heavy into it though until much later with the original Diablo. I also thoroughly enjoyed the entire Ultima series which culminated with Ultima Online. I played UO for over two years before giving EQ a try when it launched. It just didn't grab me though. Then came DAoC, which I played (Albion on the Merlin server) for close to three years. I then took a break as other interests demanded my attention. I got back into MMOs with the release of EQ2, which I proceeded to play for a record (for me) five years! I joined a prominent guild and got into raiding, etc... I even became a raid leader for a while until it all just got to be too much. I had to step back. My wife continued to play and raid until just recently.
At that point I picked up Mythic's next product, Warhammer Online. My goal was to play with some real life friends who got it because they used to love the table-top Warhammer games. The problem was they were clueless in the ways of MMOs. Hah! And they were deadset on playing Destruction, which I just couldn't get in to for some reason. So I "cheated" on them by making some Order characters on the one of the RP servers called Phoenix Throne. I mainly played solo with the intention of being uber-casual. I wasn't even interested in joining any guilds, mainly because of all the drama that can arise from that. I met Fog one night in some PUG oRvR group when, I believe, I was openly ridiculing our extremely inept, yet insanely attitudinal (I guess that's a word...), warband leader. His idea was to continually get us all killed while repeatedly calling us all idiots. Fog messaged me and said that if I wanted some better action to join him, then he left the group. I did the same and joined him and he proceeded to put together a force of several warbands and we rolled Destro the remainder of the night. After a few more evenings joining him in PUGs and I succumbed to his invitations to join Gaiscioch. I was quire content, in my mind, to remain guildless but in the end I'm so glad I joined! I had a great time and met many wonderful, mature people.
A few months later I found myself in a situation where life was becoming very hectic and gaming had to take a back seat. I've only dabbled in MMOs since Warhammer, mainly with DDO when it went free to play. A few friends from EQ2 days joined my wife and I and we still play DDO a few nights a week. It's very casual.
I recently played through Beta 5 of Rifts of Telara and am extremely impressed. So much so that I just pre-ordered the Digital Collector's Edition. With that, I'm looking forward to making a bunch of new Gaiscioch friends in Rift. I will say upfront that I've never been a rapid leveler in MMOs. That'll be even more true now than before as I am only willing to play casually. Additionaly, because of one of my other hobbies, which is a competative sporting activity, I'll be unavaialble on many weekends once the weather turns warmer. Not to mention our upcoming move sometime this spring/summer. The point is many members of the guild may wind up leaving me behind in levels so we'll just have to play it by ear. Either way, I'm pretty psyched about Rift!
Oh and my wife and I are both planning to dive into SWTOR when that launches as well.
