Hello all,
I decided to start creating some guides to helping our members with Irish Gaelic pronunciation as well as help me learn more (You haven't begun to master something unless you can teach it). I posted my first guide and I would like to hear feedback from you all :). Is it easy to understand? Is it even worth it? The feedback will help me write my next guide. Feel free to ask questions for clarification as well!

This is cool. I've always wanted to learn the language but have only dabbled. There is a group that does weekends and even a full week once a year a couple hours from me to help people learn the language. I like using modern irish words, Gaelige, to name my characters. Converted to English it looks pretty lame. For instance Briseadh means Battle. ::chuckles:: Talk about uncreative! It just looks cool to non-speakers of the language and doesn't get slammed on RP servers like boring English names. I do have a dictionary and a basic, Teach Yourself Irish book which helps me with pronounciation. I have had no one to talk to so I don't remember much off the top of my head. Same goes for my Spanish though I can read it way better than speak it and I've had people to talk to in this language. Should brush up on it since our church has a growing community that speaks Spanish.
It is tough to learn given that very few people speak it. I get the opportunity because the wife was fluent at one point in her life (she hasn't spoken it in years.) her family sends use books in Irish though so I get to use children's stories to help me learn. The name thing is tricky. Your name at least looks the part. Sionn means Fox and is pronounced "Shoonn" but if you were to look at it in English you would think "Sia-on", or something. It is definitely a a tough language just to read never mind understand. I will get the verbs section up next week after getting back from Cape Cod.
