Greetings all,

Just letting folks know that I Stabotage (G-Side) and Castanova (D-Side) am taking an extended leave of absence from Rift.
Desire to play just isn't there anymore and I'm seeking out new endeavors to test out. Luckily, Trion was nice enough to reimburse my remaining year subscription, so they get a definate +1 in my book.

For now I will be pondering options of other games to try out since I curious of GW2 and I need to pass time while waiting for it to come out.

Thoughts on SWToR? I've never played any of the previous SW games so would like some honest opinions and not just "you so have to play it!".

Since I'm curious for GW2, would it make sense to download and play GW1?

Any information would be greatly appreciated as I attempted to resurrect my desire to game.

Thank you for your time!

Christian
aka
Stabotage / Castanova

SWToR: honest opinion :), Not really worth it, it has nothing new, but a Starwars story. Besides it's a EA/BIOWARE game and they already made their return investment, so they can now sit back and milk the cow. It is pretty much WoW in space. But some people likes it and you should probably also hear their side ;)

I have about 14 friends who started playing SWTOR and left again within 10 days and returned to WoW and Rift.

Star Wars in my opinion is just "ok". It passed the time and was fun for me over the holidays as my schedule at work now does not allow me to raid in Rift. I liked raiding in Rift, but for me if I can't raid in a game I get bored. I agree with Booie that Star Wars is wow in space, but in terms of UI and response times it is not as fast as wow, but not as slow as Rift. The questing is at times better due to cutscenes but at times worst as you may get bored with them and skip the story. My motivation is being in an Aussie raiding guild that raids in the evening my time but I could just as easily have transferred my Rift toon to an Oceanic server to do the same. The only reason I did not do that was because I like Gaiscioch and hope that at some point either my schedule will change or Rift will add something other than raids to keep me interested. Star Wars is not bad, but not great either...it does not break any ground, it has positives and negatives making it ok but perhaps not a game you would like to play for years. I am reserving further judgement until I raid and work out what endgame pve is like. I prefer the pvp in SW because Huttball is funny and the fire traps are cool. However there is no bracket system so you are pvping against level 50s which can be annoying. I like the crafting because you send your companions off to do it. I like the instances because you only need 4 people and 2 of those can be your pets, so it is good to level with just one or two friends. I like the space missions because they are like old skool super nintendo star wars x-wing games and are pretty quick to finish. I like my Sith inquisitor's zappy fingers, but I am healing mostly and healing is pretty boring with a flash heal, greater heal, one hot and one shield. I tend to dps and heal to make it more fun. On the down sides the voice acting is terrible, the story was done so much better in Mass Effect 2 and the UI is missing basics like target of target and the ability to customise much. That is just my opinion, and I am only really playing it because I have time on my hands over the holidays :)

Thanks so much for the replies! After spending most of the day being led around the mall by my wife like a dog on a leash, I had plenty of time to think about my "me time". I have decided to test out GW1 since it's F2P and the xpacs are cheap enough. Also, I have the game Witcher2 that's been sitting in the box still wrapped up since last summer that I should probably play. As for SWToR, the references to WoW and WoW in Space immediately threw me off. Having come from playing WoW for over 5 years to Rift I have no desire to revisit the WoW factor. Granted it was a great game for me and will continue to be a great game for other, I just can not bring myself to want to get involved in a similar game. So I will get GW1 up and going and see how things fair and hope for a Beta invite to GW2 for the guild. :) Thanks all! Christian Stabotage/Castanova

If you played mass effect 1 or 2 swtor is that with mmo dressing. I played wow from the original beta to cata and swtor is not wow at all. Rift seems alot more like wow imo hehe.

Well Geeze. The break lasted 9 days! Go figure. Wife got tired of me whining about which game I should test out and forbid me from spending any money on another game. See where wife-aggro gets ya! Well she's right anyways. She said I would just complain more while attempting to learn a new game so I should just stick with what I know for now. Ok, so wives are right some of the times. :oP I'm back and currently leveling a warrior "RoadBlock" on Def side. :D
