So Friday night I go to install a drawing program that I want to use to help design things for the woodcarving business my husband is starting and my optic drive won't open. So I take the cover off and figured out that it was definitely not due to it being loose or poorly seated. As I'm checking it out with the computer still on so I can keep tesing if I can get it open, the power supply suddely starts doing a weird surging of the fan. Needless to say, I got that turned off, pulled that out and it is DEAD!
So do to multiple things going on and wanting to be sure the way the power supply died, the computer is sitting over at the little home town tech's shop I've used before for computer issues. Timing would not have been any different if I tired to do it myself since it turned out he didn't have my size of power supply. So you won't see me around much until we get this all sorted out. On a good note, I tuest this guy and even with him doing the part ordering rather than myself, the price range is right in there with what I was looking at for the brand he recommended anyway. He actually doesn't like the brand of power supply I did have and well I don't either since it was loud and finally died.
I decided to go computer shopping and found a disturbing trend when actually going to retailers for them. It seems they are going for selling dumb downed desktops and all in ones. All of them needed a video card added and probably needed a power supply upgrade to do it on top of the prices they were already charging for them. Seeing this trend, I'm thinking if I wanrt better processing and video card, I'm going to just have my tech guy do it with the case I have already since it is a good one. I'm actually disappointed in one retailer where I used to go in and play with any computer and they always high end options so I could compare and then lug home if I needed something in a pinch. Those days are gone.
Anyway, I'll be back in the game at some point here in the coming week, but still have this laptop to touch base. Boy, it is going to be interesting trying to do my job on this thing. I probably could see if I can get my big monitor to work on it for visability help, but the fun issue will be a touch mouse with not so touchy feeling fingers. HA!
