With no word from ArenaNet or NcSoft, it does seem as though there will be no BWE this weekend.
I stumbled across this interview on venturebeat.com. The article is very good, but I found the reply from Spammerbarn to be the most interesting thing.

On the bright side, Arenanet might be taking a well deserved break this weekend to recharge. Who knows how badly they need a break for how hard they've been working.
Yep - instead of getting no time off and working all weekend, they will get an extra long lunch break on Monday :) Gaming devs just don't get breaks - they work their asses off so that we may receive gratification sometime in the future. I know they have their happy times... "Hey dude! I finally cleared that dungeon and the boss actually spawned - then we were able to kill him and exit the dungeon - and NO CRASH TO DESKTOP!!!!" Horns sound, whistles blow, and cake is served.... 5 minutes later they are back at their PC licking icing off of their fingers punching in new codes for the next encounter. I admire them - and wish them well while I am at my kids house having a Bar-b-que and playing with the grandkids.
