A question concerning sur names in GW2

During the beta I saw someone with a surname of na Nuada and I thought how awesome that was.  It got me to thinking about a family last name and if I could make all my characters with that surname or something similar.  Also I was curious what the community's thoughts are and what Fog's thoughts are on it, whether you are for or against it. 

All of my toons will have a last name of Ruid

I was thinking the same. We should all have 'of Sanctum' as our last names.

My toons will all have the last name "Starke". Gratuitous Game of Thrones reference for the Norn. ;) I really love that, since my preferred names are usually taken quickly, so being able to use last names is wonderful.

my usual last name is too long unfortuantely, it's either that or my usual first names are too long =D vespariana, kilanthron, burnished, ashandarei (or ashendare), flarewind, shadowice, stinkwiind so I can't have stormrider as my surname for most of those names :(

Considering that names are unique across all worlds it is good that we can use spaces in the names. My mesmer this past weekend had three names... I think that is just awesome. I never have understood the one name limitation for characters... or in the case of TR forcing all the characters to have the same last name... On a side note... is it the 25th yet?

My names will always end with george. why? because im george lol. I think this is a neat idea and all and feel that people with this sur name will get noticed... but i don't think we should all aim to have a specific ending to our name. After all its kinda like they say "A name doesn't make the man, a man makes the name".

I am debating between short one word names for ease of tells and mails and an identifiable surname for ease of alt recognition. What do you guys find more helpful?

I love the aspect of surnames, and I think na Nuada would be awesome, but at the same time being able to use them opens up so many options for your name and using one surname might restrict people a bit on creativity that you don't normally get to use in MMOs :P I'm still trying to work out what mine will be, I have some ideas but I'm debating over whether or not they'll sound decent enough for use lol

Just be aware, once alliances are in, we'll have subguilds with the names: Gaiscioch (New members) -- Foghladha (team lead), Bloodmaw, Korzak, Cenu, Yulishka, Caellius, Nikodemus, Noonga, Bes Gaiscioch na Anu (Casual players) -- Doctorfixit (team lead), Donaliam, Gypse, Lady, Leonar Gaiscioch na Rall (PvP and WvWvW) -- Vampiresbane (team lead), Moreden, Aisrine, Tybor Gaiscioch na Nuada (Endgame PvE) -- Bentmer (team lead), Berga, Hosfi, Mijjah, Kool Gaiscioch na Oghma (Roleplaying) -- Clanorton (team lead), Izzy, Briseadh Gaiscioch na Goibniu (Crafting) -- Lakshmi (team lead), Laochan, Jexia, Dargron At launch, we'll just have the one main guild Gaiscioch where we'll be putting anyone and everyone. Once we get alliances, we'll open up these other subguilds, but don't feel like you HAVE to transfer. It's more or less optional unless we're really hurting for room in "Gaiscioch"; if that happens, don't fret, you can talk it up in alliance chat (at that point in time). So just keep the subguild names in mind. You may or may not want to have surnames with those endings since at some point, your guild will probably have that surname already. Personally my character's name is so long I can't fit much of anything afterwards so I don't really have any options, but I figured I'd share our subguild naming plan in case folks wanted to know more.

LOL I opened a can of worms - Danann na Nauda is prissy toon. I was trying to figure out a good name for my toon for when we break into different houses as one of them will be mine. Not sure if I am going to go that way but was fun to try.

I read in the Lore that Asura don't usually have last names, so I'll just be Twilah and ya'll can put me wherever I help the most.

@Jerich, I found that you can receive tells, mail, and party invites for any of your toons -- regardless of which one you are currently playing! So, in the betas I grabbed "Shmi" and "Lakshmi" as alts - for as easy as possible names. Then I could play Lakshmi Reallylongandhardtospell and folks could still hook up with me easily. Hope I can pull this off for live too! :)

SHMI! Man, I can't get Red Dwarf out of my mind at all due to this shortened version of your name. ;) I might just be Briseadh and Cliste with no surname and whatever other Irish word I want to throw on a toon. However, I used to have the surname of Crionna on Briseadh in Warhammer, so that is an option. I think she is set up with that surname in GW1, but I haven't played enough over there in awhile to remember. Should make toons with the names I want by the 31st in GW1 since I have it because I can lock the names for GW2 that way. Have to go figure out how.

So Arena-net decided to lift the limit on the number of members in a guild? Thanks Vampiresbane for the clarifications and extra info.

Last time I heard, the initial limit on guild size was 100, and you can raise that number through Influence. I will have a lot of roleplay surnames, myself.

There's a cap of 500 max members in a guild. Ben isn't expecting more than 500 at the very beginning, but it's fairly possible we'll go over that.

GW2 goes by player account so once one character is invited all others you create can belong. You just have to make sure to go into the guild panel and verify the character is representing after you make it. Should be automatic but we saw that sometimes it did not do it for second toons created by some during this last beta. So after that babble - 500 players per guild (no worries about altaholics like me!) Right now it costs money to up this and in a few hours we had room for 300 for the beta and I think we had around 180ish join up during the weekend. At least, the number in the guild is based on what I saw the last time I checked, not sure how much I bothered checking this after Saturday night.

And if I remember right Danann was the queen of Nauda or something like that. I will now have to look it up again.
