Vistas... *le sigh*

Not a fan, but I think they're a nice addition to the game.

I like doing some exploration, so the hearts, skill challenges, and vistas all seem like welcomed ways to get people to explore content, kill a wider variety of mobs, and generally spread out through the world more.

When I found my first regular vista I thought, "Heh...neat little cut scene!  Nice job!  Could lead to some interesting fraps videos depending on what's going on in the background."  Then I went looking for my second vista and...well, my heart dropped a little bit.  Towards the ground.  Because I fell off a jumping puzzle.

And then I cursed.

ME NO LIKEE JUMPEE PUZZLE!!!!

I'm torn because I'm a bit of a zone and quest completionist, and there's free treasure to be had for doing so...kinda hard to resist the call of the gratuitous treasure box!  But to do it, I have to do somethings that I really don't like doing at all.

*insert internal conflict here*

GAH!  It feels like I'm being asked to put down my own dog because she acquired rabies. Some people love this kind of stuff and that's why I think it's a great addition.  It's something different to most MMO's..."just a bit of a break from the norm."  And I know that, in time, I'll do every single one of them.  The completionist in me and the call of the treasure are sure to win out.

I just. Won't. Like. It.

Yeah, Vistas are certainly one of those love or hate things... and jumping puzzles in general (there are some skill points that have such puzzles, as well). I'm kinda thinking zone completion will look very different once people get a bit higher level. I don't think it's going to be an easy thing at all.

I am with you on the No Likee Jumpee Puzles. I did do them and honestly, it took me a while because, well, I am just not very good at the jumpee stuff, but once I started, I HAD TO, and I mean HAD to finish it. At one point I had a few ppl watching me and trying to help me. It was fun after all and I did feel very happy once I finished them. ~Desrie~

these were actually put in.... to my knowledge at least.... to help increase the exp you gain in a map. Yes i do have to agree that forcing players to solve puzzle for map completion is annoying yes. but they mostly added it for the extra exp.

I spent a good 2 hours and 11 deaths later in the Sylvari starting zone doing a jumping puzzle. And of course I HAD to finish. I'm not very good at them either (see previous comment of 2 hours and 11 deaths later... lol), but it sure feels good once you accomplish them! Funniest part of that jumping puzzle was a group on vent went to the WvW map in search of juvenile jungle spiders to charm for the rangers. When I finally made it to the top of the jumping puzzle there was a chest surrounded by several juvenile jumping spiders. I of course relayed the message in vent, we all had a good laugh, then promptly logged of my necro and logged in on my ranger to once again torture myself... lol.

I'm happy for the vistas. I'm quite bad at jumping puzzles ('curse you, old lady reflexes!'), but I toughed it out the first BWE and completed the one on the wall in the second charr zone. It took me a couple hours and a quite a few deaths, but it was a nice accomplishment. Kinda like beating a hard dungeon run for the first time. The vistas I tried in BWE3 seemed a LOT easier... maybe I'm getting better at this jumping thing.

I like the vistas. They were something that drew me in every time I found one. I would NOT move on from an area without getting that vista up there. I also got 3 zone completions over the weekend... they rewards for zone completions are amazing, thus, I like that they added this bit of challenge to the game. Not everyone "needs" them, and I'm sure people will get along just fine without 100% map completion. Ya, some completists will argue that having them in the zone completion ruins them being completionists. The way I see it, a TRUE completionist, would be doing them anyways, not just doing the stuff that gives them a "100% map clear"

I got to do a couple of the vistas but no jumping puzzles to speak of. Then again, I kept rolling toons to try out different professions or just didn't like the look of my toon and ended up back in character creation. Hopefully, once I claim my names at launch, I can create my toons without much fuss, get in game and find me some jumping puzzles! Myk

The jumping puzzles can be a bit tiresome, but over all, I really like the vistas. Adds a little something extra for explorers and completionists to work on. In the last BWE, I would not leave a section of the starting zone until I had all the vistas, hearts and skill points completed.

I secretly believe that the jumping puzzles are little more then Arena Nets revenge against all those who complained about not being able to jump in the original GW. >:)

Looking at the vistas, I get the impression that the 3D environment artists requested them so that they could show off all their tireless and hard work. Of course the reason I get that impression is because I am myself a 3D environment artist, so I love seeing all the work artists put into their games. That said, I admit at times jumping puzzles can be somewhat of a chore. It seems to me like they might have used an easier method to show these things. Regardless, I look forward to exploring and finding them all.

Jumping Puzzles are my favorite thing. Admittedly I only did the two in WvWvW which weren't connected to any vista's (but my god they were hard). Vista's I don't mind though.

I like the vistas. The ones I did didn't fit into what i think of as jumping puzzles, in that the jumping wasn't the hard part, usually. The puzzles were more of "that's where I wanna go, how can I get there?" and several of them I just walked or climbed to. Not so much of the twitchy timing better-have-a-fancy-mouse kind of puzzle, and definitely including the problem-solving sort of puzzle. I solved every vista that I attempted, and I didn't wiki/google/youtube any. I'm sure there's some that will stump me. I was humbled to find a skill point that I thought was a jumping puzzle, spent a lot of time on it, and then found it didn't actually take jumping. :o Like seemingly everything in GW2, they're completely optional but rewarding. Myself, I'll do all the ones that don't require twitchy timing.
