While I'm looking forward to playing with the family in GW2, it looks like the common curse of Oceanic onling gaming is going to rear it's ugly head here as well.  From my own experiences, and a lot of what I read on the net, with our 200-400ms pings, Australian players in particular are going to be disadvantaged in the pvp side of the game.

The dodge mechanic does rely on player skill, but latency does factor in and I found myself getting hit a lot by things I thought I had dodged, and missing a lot of attacks which looked like they had hit to my screen.  I'd be interested to know if anyone else noticed this, and maybe had some ideas for proxy or tunneling service that could help.

I am used to playing at around 200, and did not notice any real issues other than in the Beta stress test event yesterday, which was universal.

I wont be playing competitive sPvP in Guild Wars 2 because of the few issues I have discovered with latency and the beta's I've taken part in. I don't notice this as much in WvW though. I generally play rogue/thief style classes and I will probably be avoiding them in GW2 due to latency. When the class is built around dodging, shadowsteps and evading abilities the timing is everything and unfortunately any latency higher than 300 is unacceptable for such twitch orientated abilities.

I have the same concern, since I'm playing from Brazil. It's rare for me to have pings lower than 300ms when playing the first Guild Wars... I don't think Guild Wars 2 will be that much different. I don't think it causes any problems in PvE, though it might be a factor in PvP, depending on the class used. That said, latency is less of an issue for some classes. Necromancers have a large enough health pool to be more forgiving with high latency, for example. Elementalists/Guardians focused on support, Engineers focused on area control and turret use should be good too. For other classes, it can be a significant problem - for Mesmers and Thiefs mostly, I'm afraid. We'll see.
