@Mezmer - Ive been through many xpacks in MMO's over the years, Ive seen plenty of changes and have always been able to adapt to them. However, this... 1.11, is an absolute gutting of each of my characters souls, rotations, specs, skills, macros - It is literally like learning a new game, just as Treaa says - feels like I bought my account.
@everyone else :) (and you too Mez!)
The thing that really bothers me, and this is just how I feel in regards to tanking souls (Reaver/Pally/Void Knight); I feel like tank players are being railroaded into playing the Pally soul, supplemented with bits of the other souls. I chose to play VK because it was different, did an amazing job at things the reaver/pally couldnt do (and still cant) but they removed SO much of the VK skills, or revamped them in some way, its not even what it originally was, and its very weak compared to what it was.
So - Riddle me this: If the VK was so bad (no one wanted to play it, it was gimp etc etc, couldnt raid with it...) why did it get so many nerfs and changes, while the pally got alot of love by comparison?
Obviously, the Vk soul and the changes are my biggest concern, however, the other changes to my characters havent really made me go "ok, this makes up for the VK flub". Logging into my alts, realizing I have to relearn 3 other toons, specs, macros, rotations... dont get me started on the "bleep" they did to timers on rogue abilities. My fingers look like little yoga instructors when im tryin to do the rotations. Take away the ability to macro high DPS builds = low dps in raids where mechanics all include the usual "move here, avoid this, stand here, move here" and still put out dps to beat an enrage.... AND keeping all your dots/debuffs etc up on the target. Now instead of playing, we have to micromanage.
I could go on and on - but it is just my opinion, but believe me, I have looked at this from all the angles - I understand the "why" of it. What I dont agree with is the new game overnight. If they would have rolled these changes out, instead of making it a new game overnight, myself and MANY others may have had a lot better experience. SL didnt just happen, they have probably been planning it since before they launched. 6 Months ago they knew they would be launching when they are, they knew the changes that would be in place and could have made gradiant adjustments to the souls that weret so jarring.
Im still playing - Ive gotten past the initial shock and anger. I seriously hope they fix the warrior souls and reconsider timers on some of the abilities. It will take some time to filter through the garbage that they call preset souls to use - but they are good starting blocks for real builds. However, that all feels like work. I play the game to relax with friends, not work, so Im sure Vaygrent will be on the shelf collecting dust until I feel like a spec that doesnt include pally is useable as a tank. Its Trions game, but I want to play it my way, not how they feel it should be played, and feel not-so-gimp.
Pally = FoTM Gimmack Cookie-Cutter Soul.
VK (is still) > ALL ! ! ! They just have to fix it.
edit to reply to Thune:
I have 2 Warrior Tanks (1 very few ppl have seen) 2 Rogues (Defiant/Guardian with the same spec - ty 1.10) and a Mage all with Hk /ID gear. Vaygrent, Zurra and Septa can all do T1, T2 and T3 raids. I have Tank specs, Melee specs, ranged specs, Mage DPS/Archon/Chloro and each of them is in one raid or another several times a week. Believe it or not I have a 50+hr a week job, live in my own place and pay all my own bills :P - but anyway - 1 or 2 characters, ok - not to bad, but with my stable of ... I cant even call em alts because they all get played... I had no idea where to start. It was very overwhelming and frusturating. Did I mention that they gutted my VK?
