I have used the Marketplace to get things for my character throughout my journey to level 80. And I hit level 400 in leatherworking fairly soon in my journey. I don't mind making things to help the family.

I uploaded the recipes for the Carrion Exotic set of armor. Now, I grinded away myself to get my globs and fine crafting materials, so that I could make that armor. And I found it time consuming, and it took away from my gaming experience. So, now that I have the armor, im back to having fun and what not.

My dilemma here is that. I want to make the medium exotic armor for those people who have requested it. But I don't have the funds/materials to just pop up and make it. I can make everything but the insignias needed fairly easy, and with the insignia I can pop out gear left and right.  Back to my dilemma. I feel like I should just make a post saying "Hey get me the materials, and I'll get you the exotic gear", but I feel like that takes away from the purpose of the marketplace. I like the marketplace to get the artisian points, but I don't want to grind to get materials to help the family. I dunno, maybe I am just over thinking things.

End result, I just want to make armor for the family.

I don't think you're really over thinking it Pepsi. I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I'd love to be able to make all those exotic orders for people, but I'm not exactly swimming in ecotplasms, ori ore and ancient wood. I don't even have exotic gear for myself yet at this point. I've thought about just putting orders in for the mats, and using them to craft the other exotic orders, but I'd be waiting weeks for the ore and wood, and the ecto orders are almost a month old now. Hopefully in the future these mats will be easier to come by and easier to share, but for the time being, they're really cost and time prohibitive. That being said, I had a thought. Maybe if we got a group of four or five of us high level crafters together. All throw on some Magic Find gear or eat some MF food or something. Then run around and spam events for an hour or two, with the express purpose of being able to pool drops for salvaging and gathered mats and start crafting exotics from the marketplace, starting from the oldest and working towards the newest orders. It would be more fun than just mindless farming, we'd get karma and coin for ourselves, and we'd be able to help guild members out at the same time. It would be kind of like the crafting faires, but smaller scale and all proceeds go back into the guild? I'm game if other people are.

Hmmmm. There would need to be more planning behind it than this. I mean, I do like the idea. And I have my magic finding food. I don't have magic finding gear (due to my carrion set). I'm not good at finding spots for "farming". I was lucky that my friends wanted to do several dungeons. I think we've done em all. But the higher up ones had multiple chests, and very good loot. Which then could be salvaged for globs, but on that point, you don't get ore/wood or anything for doing dungeons. If we organize something, and can get it to work, and can get people to pool their resources then yeah, that seems like a good thing. I do however like to think about all the angles. How do we make it more appealing to those who are giving up the materials? Like, whoever is going to receive the materials, gets the contribution points, and artisan points for crafting for the family. The people who just go along and donate, really are only getting the Karma/$$. I don't know how much incentive there is for those people, outside of 'helping the family'. However. There are orders for 2 sets of carrion to craft, on the marketplace. So that's a total of 10 insignia's at 5 globs a piece, we'd need 50 globs total. If we ran with say 5 people, we could pass out the globs evenly, so each person could craft 1 or 2 items from the marketplace, thus everyone is working together to get the artisan/contribution points. Or, if people coming along, aren't leather workers, they could choose to donate the globs to those people who have orders just for that. That way they could get some contribution points for their troubles? This has promise. I don't know what route we'd take. I don't mind leading something like this. I've been to 2 of the crafting faires, I understand how they work, just not sure how to organize it. I'm up for doing this.

Yeah, I think if its going to work we'd have to look at all exotic orders across the board, regardless of crafting discipline. Just pick the oldest of them all and go from there. I wonder if Fog or one of the elders has a way to manually edit artisan and contribution points. That way if we have a group of 5 people that collects enough materials for say 2 exotics, it won't really matter who crafts them, someone could fill the order and then the points could be divided evenly among all involved? So an exotic worth 150A and 800C points would equal 30A and 160C for each person, or something like that. I don't know, I'm kind of just thinking out loud here.

Sounds pretty good. I'd wonder if it'd be the same as running an event? Like the crafting faire, when you go to claim it. There are several things to claim. Perhaps we could get a setup like that. And, it would have different things to claim, and those things could reward Artisan/Contribution points, instead of the normal fellowship points?

A 400-level crafting faire sounds like a great idea. I've looked at the potential for having a magic-find set of gear. It wouldn't need to be orange or yellow (obviously wouldn't hurt), because you don't really need exotic/rare gear to farm DEs in the 80 zones, so it could be assembled pretty-much on the cheap. And food buffs (if I can remember to eat when they run out) are cheap, too. Part of what holds me back is the lack of bag-space for another set of gear. As far as the ingredients, as someone with orders posted, if the crafter said hey could you send me a couple ectos, I certainly could do that. I guess for the accounting the crafter could post a request for the ingredients that the buyer fills, and then the gear transaction gets completed. I think trying to split credit for a crafted item is gonna be way hard. Maybe better to take turns, handshake-style. I looked closer at the recipe -- the insignias take five (5) glob of ectoplasm and some other things that I don't know the price of. 5 of those is ~ a gold, so I definitely can see the reluctance to craft from your own stash. On our marketplace, is the cost of the ingredients less than or equal to the cost of the finished product?

You know what. You have given me an idea. I mean, I really only need my condition damage gear for WvWvW, so, I could look into getting an decent Magic Find set of gear. I have extra bank space, and bag space (mainly because I went wild with gems.... i regret that). But hmmm. To get it organized would be the biggest thing. I agree, it might be hard. We'd just need a good system to set it up. Some way it benefits everyone.

There is a downside if you guys decide to do a 400 level crafting fair. Its called the Invisible loot wall. and effects Cursed Shore, Frostsound Gorge, and Melachors leap. What the invisible loot wall. is after roughly 50-60 drops, you will get nothing above a white in that zone. and that invisible debuff will stay with you for three hours. this invisible loot wall only effects greens and highers but that still takes away ectos pretty much. I'm game if I'm available for the faire though.

I don`t see the issue myself , i have a 400 armor smith and as in every game i`ve played since 1999 i`ve been a crafter and made stuff for guildes , However i`ll hang out and craft whatever you want but i`m not going to farm the mats myself , esp in this game as the some of the low lvl gears i may have extra stuff laying around but not the 375 and 400 skill armors . the 400 armors cost 1 gold just in the ectos not counting all the other mats per piece if you farm them or buy them or get them off the marketplace i`ll be happy to craft you whatever you wish .

Good issue. We have the option to order stuff on the Marketplace with "Player Provided" materials, but there's no way for the crafter to see that the order was placed that way. So even when "player provided" orders are put on the marketplace, they languish. I've asked Fog if there's a way to make it obvious to crafters which orders are mats provided by player. So he's aware of the issue but as always, he's a busy man. Hopefully we'll see a tweak for that soon. Re a "level 400 crafting faire"... instead of the gathering part, we could focus on the crafting part. You bring mats you've gathered for your level 400 gear and get a crafter to fill your "player proivded mats" order during the event. I'm going to give this a try for the 3rd hour of Saturday's event.

Hey George, a little off topic, but is that loot wall something new? Just curious because I farmed those 'defend the camp' DEs in Cursed shore last weekend and was still getting blue/green/yellow drops 3hrs in. I don't have an amazing MF set but with food and everything its about 160%. And I also read about loot DRs a while ago but thought that they were only based on the type of mob you kill. So in between events, I'd go kill something that wasn't 'risen whatever' in the hopes that it would 'reset' my kill streak. So do you think that those things helped me, or did they change it so that stuff doesn't work anymore either?

I haven't seen the invisible loot wall on an entire zone but I have definitely seen it on an event like the temples in Malchor's and Cursed Shore. But I've only farmed for more than an hour twice now. I do think an event where a band of level 80s just rip through a high level zone for an hour would be awesome. We'd get a lot of loot an gold and maybe even some event karma while we're add it. Way more fun than just solo farming. On that note: how do we start event leading? Do we reach a certain rank? I wouldn't mind scheduling and leading this one night.
