WvW questions

Hello GSCH,

I've been thinking about coming back to GW2 for the PvP and WvW content. I played when the game first came out but never really got into it. I have a few questions if anyone has an answer!

Do you have to have a lv80 character to be effective in WvW? If I remember correctly, in PvP scenarios you're auto-leveled to 80 and equipped with relevant gear but I don't remember that being the case with WvW.

Is there a rank or rewards system for PvP/WvW? I love the bragging rights and the enjoyment of stomping on your enemies but sometimes it's nice to have some special gear or titles to accompany these things as well.

What are some of the websites that discuss popular and successful builds and play styles?

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer my questions!

Level 80 helps, you will be leveled but your traits/gears/powers won't.

Yes, there is a reward/rank/skills system for wvw, it's character bound instead of account bound. If you make the season 1 achievements you get a spiffy new title to show off :3

Google them. No, seriously. Google is your best friend. You can find whatever playstyle you want to play with in WvW :3

I'm pretty sure someone else will give a better/more detail answer.

Cheers!

Since you want to come back I suggest running with one of our commanders during the many WvWvW events we have scheduled.  I leveled my ele from 10 to 80 in WvWvW and I know Fog took his mezmer (which he now constantly uses) from lvl 2 to 80 in WvWvW.   You can actually lvl pretty fast in there.  As long as you don't sweat dying then you don't have to worry that you are at a slight disadvantage.    My one suggestion is to have a speed boost at all costs - this will help you keep up with your squad - which keeps you safer.  Also have some sort of AE that you can maintain so when taking supply camps you can get in as many hits as possible - this will help get you exp so you lvl even faster.

There are especially good family runs on Club Gaiscioch nights - Thursday at 6 and Fri-Sat at midnight (all times PST) although with this Thurs Thanksgiving - that one probably won't happen.   :)  and Skeleton Jack runs a group almost every afternoon at 3.   These also get you family honor points which can help get you gear.  Be sure you have RaidCall  loaded and up - even if you don't talk - listening in for commands is essential.

There is a reward system and a ranking system.  Every level you get in WvWvW gets you a chest which contains blue or green items based on your level and once you get above lvl 30 in the game - not WvW - you have a chance for rares - then above 72 a chance for exoctic - but it a slight chance - at lvl 80 I see mostly greens.  Also - set up auto  AE loot to an easy key - the fights get fast and furious and without auto AE loot you will miss some bag drops.  Every few WvW lvls (which is different than your game lvl) - you get a new title such as Invader, Scout, Assaulter...etc and the enemy sees you rank.  You can also spend points you earn to upgrade your WvW skills with arrow carts, catapults, etc.  That's about it in a nutshell - but feel free to ask more questions in your squad or over RC when you get in.

Safe Journ - and welcome back!!!
