My offer/mission to you to personally gear up a magnet spec engie.

I would love, love, love to see someone start being a magnet pull engie for us in the rvr lakes and city instances. I know a lot of folks like rifle and 'nades and I have no problem with that, but from what I've seen from Rifting Magi, having a pull like that can COMPLETELY turn the tide of battle.

So far we've gotten some folks stepping up to the plate as fantastic aoe BW's. Hotspring, Gabale, Cray on his BW, and others are doing fantastic. They just need more rr at this point to be able to wear invader and up; with the way we've been killing folks in the lakes, that'll come with time.

So here's the deal. I don't want anyone to do this unless they're already inclined to do it in the first place. I don't want anyone to do this unless they'll enjoy it. I don't want anyone to do this unless this engie will become their main. It's not a requirement. Every single engie in our family/guild can stay rifle/'nades, it doesn't hurt my feelings at all. Don't feel pressured to do this.

But if:
You will make the magnet spec engie your main (a MUST),
You have no problem calling targets in ventrillo (a MUST),
You have no problem rushing head first into warbands of destro (also a MUST),
You like strategy and rvr,
and you love this game....

I will make it my personal mission to help gear you (I'm trying similar things with Gabale, but now he's to the point he just needs rr like I've previously stated).

I'm not sure if that really requires pve dungeon runs or just help getting select pieces of gear, but I'll do a fair amount of work to help you out. BS crit weapon runs, certain amount of sc's (I can't do too many, I'm already somewhat insane from my own 75 wep runs), whatever you need help with to get the ball rolling.

You don't have to be 40 already. You could be level 5 or level 35, I don't care. Just let me know. I can probably help up to two players that want to do something like this.

(We've asked for certain classes in the past, BW's, Kotbs, etc and now we have some fantastic players for both ie Caemlys and Spacecadet for Kotbs, Gabale/Hotspring/Whateley for BW's, I'm hoping my offer will spur an increase in magnet engies as well.)

Cool idea, mag spec engies are pretty handy to have around. I might volunteer, my engi is rr 50 I think, but I don't find it particularly fun to play the magnet spec engi solo. It doesn't seem likely that you'd be able to guarantee a group every time I log on, so I will decline this offer for myself. I'd be willing to spec magnet occasionally and try it out a bit with our groups, though, I've already got a few pieces of Dark Promise and getting close to being able to wear invader. Either way, like I say it's a cool idea. Good luck, Vamp!

I think this ^ is what a lot of engies are having issues with. It's hard to solo with a magnet engie. One thing I will do and I'm sure Oldroar will probably do as well, is start making 6 mans and 12 mans and 24 mans each with balanced and well built groups. So that magnet engie will have a guard and 2 healers as well as bw bombers to back up his aoe dps. The engineer(s) that will need my help may not stay magnet spec all the time, I just want them to be magnet spec when we do rvr and city fights. @Kavurn Yes we still need those WH's. Both Hemdal and Drea have been absolutely necessary and helpful in city fights and orvr in this last week alone. Keep up the good work.

We have been utilizing magnet spec engies in the small unit training workshops thirtyeightt has been putting together. We had some great success with an engy, in this case Dargron, (pulling in the prey) a BW bombing them up, a healer, and three tanks to guard everyone. It was a somewhat nontraditional bomb group, but it was surprisingly effective - and hellafun, LOL

Magnet spec can really be devastating if it is done like vampiresbane is suggesting. If you get some good aoe dps and a person that can call it out on vent you can just destroy whole groups of destro at a time. I know you have had it done to you by magus, time to get even...

Dargron is pretty geared so I can't really make him my temp pet engie, but I love the fact you guys are trying magnet spec with him. To Freak, is chokepoint going to be your main now instead of Freakinreakin? To Korzak, it'll be nice to see you around more. Haven't seen much of our personal pain train of you and Hellreike ever since you hit 80. Makes me a sad panda that we don't take advantage of your leetness more though I can understand why you're playing on other characters.

Hah, sorry Vamp. We have been pretty scarce, but it happens from time to time. It's not that I don't want to play, but I've been so very frustrated with the performance of the server since the new patch went live that I just have a hard time bringing myself to log on. Hellreike and I have been touching base in some of the games we've played in the past. Some old friends of mine called me back to Puzzle Pirates and even paid for my account for a month, so we've been there for a bit. Believe it or not, I played Puzzles Pirates for 5 years, on and off, and I have a pile of friends there. Heh, I was even pretty damn good at it, if I do say so myself. But there are a few new things there that I thought I'd try out while I was on borrowed time, and it's been a nice break from the lag, disconnects and server crashes that have been plaguing WAR. DDO recently had a new patch with some goodies in it that we had to check out, as well as news that Half-Elves and Half-Orcs will go live with the next patch. Hellreike has traditionally played a Half-Orc barbarian in every D&D campaign we've every played, so this is a big deal for him, and so we picked it up again to check out the new stuff and maybe get back into the swing of things. For those of you unfamiliar with DDO, it has a reincarnation system, where once you hit max level you can start over at level 1 as a different race and class, along with some bonuses. It's a fairly unique system, but it's cool, and still somewhat within the spirit of D&D, which Hell and I both appreciate. Last but not least, LOTRO is going f2p in 5 days, and right now my finances are such that I can't really afford to pay for a computer game. I have an old friend or two that have been playing it for ages, and my roommate has a sub to it as well. From the free trial I'd played on it and from watching my roomy play, it's something that I think I'll give some time to. Oh, and it'll be free.

As mentioned, I don't have need of gearing up (currently full W'lord and working up to Sovereign), but I'm happy to temporarily respec if you have need of a Magnet Engy and I happen to be on if you want to do some experimenting. I've only had one foray as a Magnet Engy so far and could definately use more practice in the role.

Stupid question but is it really worth it to go this spec ??? Last i heard the only usefull thing in that spec line was the megnet pull other than that its totally worthless spec so any one going that way would be totally gimped if they went that way...

I have not had a "main" for awhile. I have been frustrated with my SM for a long time. I spent alot of time getting my engi and RP to 40. I am not sure which one I want to play as a main. I like my engi but it is a difficult class to play effectivly. If your not grenade spec life is rough. Even with nades most of my dmg is DoT's which sucks cause it gets healed away or clensed. Magnet can be fun with a good group. With well oiled machine tacctic I can redeploy my turret after a pull, selfdestruct it knocking them all down which leaves them helpless to avoid the nukes from BW.

In response to Ltol's question/comment, the magnet spec engi isn't exactly 'gimp'. In fact, if specced right, and more importantly, backed up with a guard and heals, they can lay down some impressive damage. I spent a bit of time on Tuhb specced up to magnet, and even without a guard or guaranteed heals, I was able to consistantly deal good damage in scenarios. The approach is different than a grenade or rifle primary, but the potential to deal great damage is there. Static Discharge, Blunderbus Blast, Spanner Swipe and Friction Burn now all use Ballistic skill to determine damage, and it gave several of those abilities a considerable boost in effectiveness. The biggest issue is much the same as that faced by bombing BWs and Sorcs: survivability is limitted. So they need a good group to back them up if they expect to take advantage of their potential. The unfortunate part of this is that the Engi's take-down power is still less than that of a BW, so they're often overlooked, even though they may bring more utility to the table.

hey korzak ty for answering the question -) so in other words magnet pull engin is great if your running with premade bomb groups 24/7 which is the same for bomb spec bws... I know for me personally i rarely get invited into those types of groups,, then again what i end up doing in game is all over the place to since i enjoy the pve end of it as well as rvr lol. btw Kor if your still in need of a bw for your group i should be back into game atleast on a limited basis the first part of october ,, would love to hock up with you bro -) just make sure the healer in group has lots of bandaids for he blisters ill give him from healing me and some sort nerve calming drug might be good for who ever has me on guard lol cause ill scare the crap out of em with as suicidle as i get lol

I think these days Vamp is probably the person to talk to about getting into some sort of regular group. I've been having some financial issues, so I may be taking a break from WAR for a bit to save a bit of money. I've not been on a whole lot the past few weeks anyway, I've been busy exploring my options in free-to-play games.

I haven't been playing for the last month or two to speak of...got into a serious funk regarding the game. Just kind of bored. Hoping to start up again and get the fire back. I have yet to try an engineer outside of goofing around on them back in closed beta. Maybe this is the change that will get me back into the groove. I reactivated this evening and I will roll up a T1 engi to try out.

Ive seen some silly manet Enys running around in DEF/heal gear for the self group KEG heal. Getting LOTD cape/ring combos and vessal weapons can make for some interesting set ups. Saw one with the 90 healing power LOTD cape/ring combo DEF SOV and 3 TOVL glyphs take on 3 SORCs and kill them through attrition with self heal and some bubble procs from a vessel weapon. He got down to about 50% hp it was hilarious. Gear really makes that spec work more than anything else because you will get focused you will need a fair amount of armour and resists. Getting our CTBC down will also help, you almost have to think like a tank for stat specs. Granted alone, save for very specific encounters, you wont be able to do squat for dmg but in large to med scale pvp you will be such an annoyance that the enemy will FF you instead of the other DPS or healers. This doesn't show on scoreboards but if you can take out half their sides DPS FF you instead of others and live you have shut down half their force. Destro does this all the time with Marauders I might add, 9 times out of 10 the Mara in your lines is doing squat dmg but he's being such a pain that people will FF him instead of the squishy Sorc or Choppa thats dishing huge numbers. Of course the Mara is also prolly ap/morale draining but Eng has some potenet CC with tactics as well.

We did a few pulls while in chokepoints with Dargorn last night. I think my favorite was when Destro was trying to take Bel's back (BO in Eataine); we had set up a chokepoint at the end of the bridge. I had Dargron pull them into a tighter circle for our aoe guys and we melted them. This then turned into a route as we pushed through the bridge to their wc. I enjoyed it myself though we probably all need more practice using magnet in a 24 man before we get comfortable with it. Dargron did a great job though.
