Some Thoughts on City Warbands

I thought I'd post something about my experiences with City bands and the things that sometimes go wrong, in the hopes of helping out some of the folks that are new to the city and just starting to get into more organized groups.

1. Do not enter the city instance until the leader tells you to go in. This sounds simple, but it seems to happen all to often that someone will go in before the group is ready. In a regular scenario it wouldn't be too bad, but with the city whenever any member of a warband goes in that whole warband is committed to that instance. If the warband is not ready to go in, the whole group has to disband, log out, log back in, and reform. This is painfull and time consumeing. It can kill an entire run.

2. The corollary to this is if you are in an alliance warband that was doing RvR and you want to pug the city, make sure you drop from the warband before you go in.

3. Remember your group number. To understand why this is important it is important to know how scenario parties differ from warband parties. Scenario parties exist only in the scenario (or city) instance and are completely independent of the warband or party you are in outside of the instance. For whatever reason, when a warband goes into a city instance, the game will still randomly assign members to scenario parties irrespective of how their warband was structured.

What this means is that the first thing you should do when you enter the city is to leave your scenario party (open the scenario party window and click leave at the bottom of your scenario group). If we had a full warband going in, you can then join the scenario group that matches your warband group number when a spot opens. If we did not have a full warband, there will be pugs filled in with us, in those cases make sure you listen on vent and the warband leader will tell you which scenario party your group should move to. If you don't remember your warband party number, you can ask the other members of your party what the number was by typing "/p what party number are we". Because warband parties are independent of scenario parties, only members of your warband party will be able to see that message and they can hopefully tell you your proper group number.

I can't stress how important this is. Your parties should be set up to be as balanced as possible before going in and we need to be able to get the organization stuff done as quickly as possible so we can focus on the city itself. As we learned this weekend, you don't always have the 4 minute organization time at the beginning.

4. Please try to have vent installed and running. You don't have to talk or have a microphone, but you need to be able to hear the commands. There are times when the leader can't pause to type things out. Chat often scrolls so quickly that important commands are missed. Vent will also enrich your play time outside the city so I strongly encourage you all to get it.

That's all I have for now. I'm sorry to subject you all to this wall o text! On a side note, I finally figured out how to change my main! Yes I'm slow :)
