Is ESO worth playing in 2019

This is posted under the General section of the Tavern because many Family Members own the base game but were turned off during launch/early game play.  Here is an overview of the current state of the game, as well as a great video compilation presented by Dottz Gaming.  He is one of the leading content producers and overall guru.  15 minutes well spent.

So, you already own the game and left, or are interested in playing the "voted top MMO" two years running, I'd like to host an event for beginners.  We'll be doing a slow walk through, levels 3-15 or so, this will get you all the important starter stuffs and acquaint you with gameplay, skills, equipment, mounts, storage, quick travel, crafting, addons, and many other aspects. If desired, we'll provide "starter kits", inventory space, buff food, potions and even equipment (*note many players want to do all this 'on their own' to fully experience the game).  The base Game is Buy to play, but no other costs are required once you own the game.  Base copies can frequently be purchased for as low as $10.

Sunday and Monday 5pm PST time slots are both open right now, please reply with desired day to play, and start screaming "FOR THE PACT" out loud for no apparent reason...we're gonna have a good time!

I am coming back to ESO.  Been gone a few years.

My lowest character is 35, but I've forgotten how to play, completely.

Monday evening work better for me.  Would like to get caught up so I can play a Necromancer on launch.

I looked at ESO and it does seam interesting. There are so many way to purchase, packs, subscriptions etc. Do you have a recommendation on what to purchase to start out with?

Ah, Maxina...recommendations are a little tricky.  For me, no question-buy latest chapter that includes full game and subscribe for 6 months.  The beauty of ESO, you can get the base game very cheaply, $10-20, and get most of the fun, try it out then once you're hooked (and you will get hooked), go all in.

I played for a bit when it first launched but I just couldn't hang in there.  I keep seeing good comments about it nowadays.  I just recently re-downloaded it (a weekend or two ago) and started a new character.  I only played for about 2 hours solo. 

My hesitation to jump in further was -- I really need to sit and learn more about the game again. I'm interested in a beginners group, sounds neat!

I picked it up a couple weekends ago and have been fumbling my way around. I would love to have a little more structured way of learning the game.

So, I looked at a few utube videos and decided to download and take a look. Fourteen hours after starting a Warden and two hours after my wife wanted to kill me, I was still playing. Level ten and probably going to play all night. I can sleep tomorrow.

After the family summit yesterday my husband and I both took a look at ESO, and we're considering all the options. Money is squeekey tight right now and we do not own the base game - cheapest I can find this morning is $25CND, so x2.  I'm also not so sure about getting hooked on another subscription game, and I would want to sub because there are just too many negatives for me personally with the free play option. So some humming and hawing to do here but will let you know if we take the leap.  I hope this event is well attended. :)

Cedrissa, I've been playing about 30 hours total, and haven't found any Gaiscioch peeps on as of yet. If you do get in I'm playing Maxinaa (as usual) I couldn't get just plain Max. The money part....it adds up. You undoubtedly will want the endless bag add on. Your inventory fills up so darn fast and it is tenuous to find a bank to put excess items in. In order to get the bag you have to do the subscription. My opinion and it's just that, mine; is that the parts the make the game easier to play, costs money. Not to say that you can't do it; but I could not. I'm not trying to turn you away, just sharing what I think. But, the game is fun and addicting.   

Ahh, the ESO mini-game called "inventory management".  We do have regular players that get along fine without a subscription, all of the long time players had to go without a 'crafting bag' to begin with, it can be frustrating starting out.  Part of the plan for this event is to gift enough gold to folks so they can upgrade their bag space.  Banker and Merchant (and all crafting stations) are available in our Guild Hall, just right click on @verve and select "travel to primary residence".

As for finding Family Members to play with, or just to ask questions, there are usually folks around that are glad to help out.  One issue this chapter has is getting folks into discord.  The game lends itself to solo play so it's not uncommon to have 20+ members logged in and nothin but crickets in voice (unless it's a planned event).  The good news is this a very friendly and helpful group, we may need a nudge to jump in discord and help out, just ask in guild chat.

Regardless of whether or not we can get this new player event off the ground, I personally enjoy helping others discover/enjoy this terrific game, please let me know your regular play times and I'll make every effort to be there. 

It's been great coming back. My husband and I recently re-subbed and while it took me a bit to get back into the swing of things, I'm glad we have.

If I'm not mistaken, you can pre-order the new Elsewyr pack and that will give you the base game, Summerset, etc, as well as Morrowind/Warden. However, it may be about $60 to buy in on that.

My opinion is that having a sub is worth it for the inventory alone. You will undoubtedly pick up virtually everything you see in the game, especially if you're interested in crafting. People can get by with alts, but... it's a hassle to hop back and forth every time you need something.

I think that I have an ESO addiction problem. Verve was on along with like 14 other members and I'm now in the guild in ESO. I am a guest now, but I hope to work my way up. When I started GW2, Rift went by the wayside; now I'm concerned that GW2 will follow. I am such a poor player, I can't keep two games in my head at the same time. I think it's the graphics in ESO that have me, the game is beautiful.

I still new so I don't know how to be helpful, but if you need me for anything just shout it out. I'm always happy to help.

So, an update. Hubby and I found TESO on sale and decided we would give it a try. Unfortunately, I now remember what the major deal breakers were for me in beta. The view being locked on that center reticle made me mildly nauseous then, and still does now. No mouse pointer and no mouse movement tweaks my anxiety and fighting the muscle memory to NOT try to move with the mouse is getting old fast.

Now, that said, I'm not so old that I can't still (at least attempt to) learn a few new tricks. I'm enjoying the story so far (all of a mighty lvl 6 Warden!) and the game is beautiful. Its the controls that are causing me all sorts of problems and resulting in many bad words on this side of the screen. I do want to give it an honest try though and I'm hoping some combination of my G13 and addons will make the game playable at least at the casual level.

Cedrissa, hang in there. All that was a problem for me also (still is). I just turned 72 today, and this game really reminds me of that! I've always had trouble with my left hand shaking when I'm tense. But, still fun...look for me ingame.

Ok, subbed for a month for the full experience and requested an invite.  Going to take this real slow and enjoy the exploring and learning. Will see you all in game soon I hope :)  And happy birthday Maxina!!!

Hey all!  I think I am going to give ESO a try.  I have a plus sub and currently a lvl 10 Sorcerer/something or other.  One thing I have heard a lot about is how daunting getting started can be.  Very little in the way of in game character dev guides.  So I have no idea what I'm doing.  Wanted to play a ranger/hunter style character but could not easily figure it out.  So I tried to build a magic using Templar.  I don't think I have figured it out yet.  Sigh.  Running around as an Imperial Sorcerer w/sword and shield using both melee and spells.  Seems strange.  Anyway.  I'm up for learning from experienced players.  I don't mind being on Discord.  If anyone wants to help me figure this out i'd be happy to dump WoW for ESO.  WoW has just gotten so stale for me.  10+ years is enough probably.

one of the tenets (some say confusion creating) of ESO is "play WHAT you want, HOW you want.  beyond choosing your desired "trinity" role (DPS/heals/tank) it is possible to play any toon, anyway you please.  Having said that there are some optimal race/class/role combos.  race re-balancing will take place in a couple weeks, race will become (mostly) a matter of personal preference.  some classes are just better for some roles, class play differs some from easy->difficult to play.

Hey folks... I'm not in the ESO guild chapter at present because my play times are so inconsistent and I don't want anyone to count on me because well, reliability isn't where my life is at the moment.

THAT said.... if you are new and would like to have a ready made home both near a transit shrine with all Twice-Born Star stations (excepting jewelry), and all mundus stones in one place, add me to your friend list and you will have access to visit my primary residence (as defined) as you like.

Glad to see folks returning (just did myself about two weeks ago). Will update my characters so if any need craft help, I can provide (full trait grandmaster on all gear trades excepting jewelcraft, which I am slowly pursuing now).
